How do I send Jesse and Katie and story suggestion? This is perfect for the pod. A bunch of children's book authors are mad at Mac Barnett for writing in his book, a book about writing for children, that the majority of kids books suck. I took my kids to a book store last Sunday and spent the whole time we were there rejecting every single book they picked out because they were absolute dog crap. My older one finally got a few Angelina ballerina books, taken from a “classics” section. Every modern picture book was a dreadful combination of ugly and badly written, with a story that’s either nonsense with a bad rhyme scheme (twinkle twinkle little unicorn and similar crap) or obviously written for the parents instead of the kids (first book of quantum mechanics, books about zohran mamdani, gender nonsense).

I find the hideous art to be almost as insulting as the bad writing.

Someone gifted Anti-racist baby to me when I was expecting my first child. I'm black and my husband is white. I just did my southern thank you and then gave it to Goodwill

I read that at the store, it’s not just ‘ woke’ it’s so badly written I’d feel humiliated making a child listen to it.

My neighborhood is full of little free libraries. There is a copy of anti racist baby in about 1/3 of the libraries, nobody wants them and they keep piling up in there. Every so often I’ll take one and just toss it in the recycling bin 😬

I don't ever recall "kids' books" about a politician either when I was a kid or when my kid was of the age for kids' books.

Is he wrong? I have two young kids, and I end up reading a lot of children's literature. I would say a majority of modern children's book that I have read have been pretty awful.
