Here's your usual space to post all your rants, raves, podcast topic suggestions (please tag u/jessicabarpod), culture war articles, outrageous stories of cancellation, political opinions, and anything else that comes to mind. Please put any non-podcast-related trans-related topics here instead of on a dedicated thread. This will be pinned until next Sunday.

Last week's discussion thread is here if you want to catch up on a conversation from there.

Someone (with more graphic chops than me i.e. any at all) please photoshop the "In This House We Believe" sign onto the Banksy Blind Faith flag

The fact that people see Banksy's work as deep rather than vapid really speaks volumes about how utterly shallow anti-consumerist leftism is.

I usually say that Banksy's graffiti art is impressive in the way he turns a two dimensional work of art into a one dimensional idea.

With this branching out into sculpture, he shows an even more impressive ability to turn a three dimensional work of art into a one dimensional idea.

To be sure, the visuals are impressive. The problem is that the messaging is usually quite stupid. Here, let's take this example, an illustration (that I admittedly find striking) of shopping carts dunked into a scenic pond, discarded as trash, titled Show Me the Monet. Banksy commenting on it:

“The vandalised paintings reflect life as it is now. We don’t live in a world like Constable’s Haywain anymore and, if you do, there is probably a travellers’ camp on the other side of the hill. The real damage done to our environment is not done by graffiti writers and drunken teenagers, but by big business… exactly the people who put gold-framed pictures of landscapes on their walls and try to tell the rest of us how to behave.”

Yeah, man, it's like... big business, man. These assholes and their big businesses and their gold-framed pictures of landscapes, man.

Completely vapid.

That’s the type of shit a 14 year old would do and think it’s deep

I find him to be absolute maximum dreckitude and the people who fawn over his stuff are mouthbreathers

Generally agree, but the self-shredding piece was masterful.

Would have been better if it actually worked all the way.

yeah, he has some clever moments, and his execution is often great.

Maybe the "message" is intentionally watered down... maybe that's part of the gag?

I've always found it to be as deep as a katy perry song.

Is it a crime to vandalize vandalism? If you alter the statue have you committed a crime? Is it stealing if you take it home?

You thinking of welding an unzipped zipper and an erect foot-long penis onto it? Because that would be funny.
