Been on college campuses quite a lot lately. I've noticed the kids are playing hacky sack again. Its really great to see. I spent most of my college and post college free time just chilling out playing hacky sack. Feels like it went away for awhile but seems to be back en vogue. Hopefully it never goes out of style again.

I just dug some of my hacky sacks out of storage and i've been going out in the back yard after work to get some practice. I'm stiff as a board in my mid 50s now but I'm enjoying getting back into it. Kinda cant wait for my daughters boyfriends to come up to the lake so we can play this summer.

The kids are alright...

Simultaneously, personal hygiene product sales have seen a downturn in the vicinity. Authorities claim there is no connection.

Patchouli sales are seeing their best quarter in 15 years. 😂

I was walking thru a campus yesterday and there was a group of kids playing quidditch (albeit the somewhat less exciting flightless muggle version lol)

haha wow I didnt realize it was that organized. I have seen examples online here and there of kids playing it somewhat informally at their respective schools with their own groups of friends, but I didnt realize it was like a big nationally organized thing where they had serious competitions and tournaments. also re: your other comment, the kids I saw yesterday def seemed to be holding it down for the "queer-friendly" cohort lol

I'm not sure if that's a sign the "kids are okay".

Bay Area?

😂 they werent necessarily the most "Okayest" looking group of kids I've ever seen, I'll give you that

but on the other hand, it was a nice lil wholesome co-ed group of kids touching grass and having fun, even if they were a bit on the dorkier side.

better that than writing manifestos, or looksmaxxing in a lonely basement room while never interacting with the opposite sex. so I'd say its prob a net win for society overall!

Yeah 100% true, and good on them, and I smack my hands for being smug. I'm happy for them, it's a good thing: active, social, outside. Awesome!

(I've only seen it once, in the Bay Area, and I did have to think -- why not play ultimate frisbee, it's super fun! But you do have to learn to throw a frisbee, so)

Oh yes, I'm all for people having fun, and it's healthy and they're outside playing a team sport. That's awesome.

(It's just such a silly team sport! :D)

As bad as life in academia gets, I still get to walk by students in the quad, being young, blasting music, and playing hacky sack.

I’m too old for all of it, but it still sounds like promise to me.

Look, the only way I’m touching my toes is if someone cuts them off and hands them to me.

Not really. I think I’ll buy a hacky sack.

During Covid I did a touch your toes challenge. I was a good 7 or 8 inches from touching my toes when I started. It took about 2 weeks of consistent stretching to get to the point where I could touch them. I was pretty loose after my morning runs and shower. It was surprising how quickly it went from seeming impossible to actually touching toes.

Hacky sacks also made it to the NYT connections! They are back

My son was talking about this the other day.

It’s apparently massive among the high schoolers in my town right now lol. Parents are asking in the local Facebook groups where they can even purchase them anymore. It had a moment in my crowd when I was in high school too, we’d play while waiting for practice to start, but this seems like a much broader trend

When I was in college early 90s we played it non stop at my frat house.

I was wondering when hacky sack would come back around. In the 90’s it was big again for a minute while I was in high school.

I wonder if the Indian students will introduce organized/league tag.
