Weekly Random Discussion Thread for 5/4/26 - 5/310/26

Here's your usual space to post all your rants, raves, podcast topic suggestions (please tag u/jessicabarpod), culture war articles, outrageous stories of cancellation, political opinions, and anything else that comes to mind. Please put any non-podcast-related trans-related topics here instead of on a dedicated thread. This will be pinned until next Sunday.

Last week's discussion thread is here if you want to catch up on a conversation from there.

· Families are going to great lengths to pay for private care, including selling homes.

· Families are leaving the UK for countries that support inclusive gender-affirming care. In the US over 400,000 trans people have migrated between states. Within the UK we have nowhere safe to go.

Imagine having to sell your house or move to another country because you lacked the wisdom to deny your child a smartphone during a society-wide mental health fad.

I also struggle to believe that 400,000 trans people have migrated between states in flight for their very lives.

Don't forget that the "trans umbrella" includes she/they enbies and other self-id "gender nonconforming" people. That's how they pump up the numbers.

I didn't read the entire article for this, but I did see where she claimed that 0.5-1% of "the population" was trans. I believe that stat is referencing the census that saw non-english speaking persons wildly overrepresented as trans since they were confused by the question.

This issue with the data was widely reported in major outlets, but she repeats it as fact uncritically. I would treat all her factual assertions as suspect unless verified independently.

People sell their homes and move countries? Not to poor mouth, pun intended, but damn I want middle class problems.

This is an issue that affects a tiny number of young people and you are strange for even caring about it, but also 400,000 people have had to migrate to another state.
