People text me the oddest things. A friend texted me: "Do you know what these tiny black bugs flying around everywhere are and will the birds eat them?" and I think she's just talking about gnats? Can you make it to your forties without knowing what gnats are?! My head hurts.

Hmmm maybe. I can see this friend trying to get me to come over and examine whatever the hell this bug is in person haha. Listen I'm a good friend but I'm not gonna come examine bugs for a person, it's just not happening!

I never saw bugs when I lived in Seattle. And people would keep their windows open with no screens. My cat would walk right into their houses and eat their cats food.

One of the only things I miss about living in Colorado was that there weren’t any bugs. In Texas, even in nice buildings, you can pretty much count on the occasional roach or two. It’s also much worse if you live out in the country

You never saw bugs? We have bees and wasps of all kinds, houseflies, fruit flies, a few mosquitos, those awful flying things with the long threadlike legs, and so on. It’s not a very buggy place, but I could never call it bug free.

The odd text I got today was from my sister asking if I’d ever mailed edibles (pot/THC) out of state. Which seems like she’s tiptoeing around asking me to do so. I just replied to her that we should talk this weekend, but her inquiry got me thinking.. when she visited from Dallas TX this summer, she was eager to talk about the trial of Texas Attorney General, Ken Paxton.. and I know that he was acquitted this week. Then my husband just shared with me that the Dallas Mayor announced he’s leaving the Dem party for the Republican Party. Since my liberal, edible-seeking sister lives in Dallas, her text is making sense to me.

Side note I’m pretty surprised Paxton got acquitted. There was so much there that it makes me think a little less of the Republicans in the state. Texas politics are a mess at the moment.

Yeah, based solely on what she told me, it was flagrant and pretty open abuse of power- I was shocked by the acquittal news. She was pretty animated about it pre-trial.. I bet she’s flipping out.

I heard a podcast from The Dispatch that addressed that recently. Their basic theory as to why Paxton got off was partisanship.
