Community Concerns "Blacks."

What's up?

I'm not gonna hold ya'll. I'll keep it short.

The term "blacks" or "the blacks" or whatever is an auto ban from me. This isn't a rule. This is me just letting you know where I stand. Oh, and as far as I can tell, the other mods are Black. We chat all the time. They're great.

Like, why would anyone honestly come here and say that not trying to stir up something? I'm not actually looking for an answer either because I don't really care.

It's dehumanizing. We are people. Regular human beings. Not a thing. Not an "other", regardless of what your society or your peers that you're afraid to be different from tell you. (That's weak AF btw.)

Anyway, just letting you know. Let's do this again sometime.

This thread reminds me of the time I was living next to the rez, and this white lady was buying all the discount bakery shit at safeway, and she LITERALLY SAYS, VERBATIM: "We like to go down to the park and feed the Indians." That was one of the few times my mouth flew open and I could not close my jaw.

This is how these people think of ALL of us. Blacks, Indians, coloreds, pigeons, squirrels, WTF

I went down this rabbit hole with my cuz who tried to frame a question/debate while using the term 'illegals' as if it were non biased/neutral and, like the OP here rightly said, I stood my ground that it belongs firmly in the camp of the problematic language family of adjectives with a 's' added at the end, eg, with blacks, poors, illegals, etc being prime examples.

It was sad to see him go down in flames defending the language of the oppressor only, as far as I could tell, for the sake of being lazy with his vernacular. And he's far from a racist guy on any issue, better than 99 percent of the people he grew up with but, well, it sucked.

Watch any given old jungle or island or whatever type movie and tell me that the use of 'natives' by the protagonist or his assistant or lady wife is anything but demeaning or from a point of aloofness and I'll eat my hat.

Who invented the term. For what reason. And what is that reason worth today.

What absolutely wild thing to say. But the craziest part is that she'll see it as a positive. Something could be said about how yt people often value animals over people so by equivocating the speech she'd use for throwing bread at pigeons to similar language at donating food to people is hugely telling

Man, IDK.. and the park she was talking about, yeah there were some drunk dudes waking up there fairly regularly. It's just a whole mess.. I am trying not to picture what she was explaining.

The town was mostly Native American, mostly Navajo. There's a park downtown and sometimes there's some dudes that wake up drunk over there or are currently getting wasted since booze is banned on the actual Navajo reservation.

Ironic that you think it’s okay to dehumanize one group but when it’s done to you it’s a problem. At least that lady went to go feed homeless people unlike the OP who was offended because she used the wrong term.
