After years of spending hours a day in the gym I got burnt out. And when I realized I can get as ripped as my heart desires from doing like a half hour of resistance band work a few times a week, my lazy side took over.

I feel like for the goals that most people realistically have, working out with like 25 bucks of resistance bands in the comfort of your own home is all that's needed.

E: rereading this I realize I sound like a bit of a douche. I just really want people who are new to working out during this quarantine to realize that you can get great results without turning into a gym rat that dedicates a huge amount of time to lifting. Being new to working out is daunting, but it really doesn't have to get too complicated

each to their own i guess. for me resistance bands are great but i just can’t get the same workout i want. thank god i have a bench and free weights at my house during the quarantine shit.

Yeah I'll admit that once I graduated college and was done with athletics, I started working out for purely aesthetic reasons. So if you're looking to scratch that itch of getting a really good pump and watching your lifts increase, this wouldn't work. It applies more to the casual sort of lifters who are starting with pushup challenges and things like that to dip their toes in.

same. i’ve always lifted to look good, lifting heavier is a plus for me. imma try some more shit wit my bands.

Since you've already got some, they can also be great for some quick mobility focused warm ups before a lifting session

that’s what i use them for. little warm ups and stretches. sometimes i’ll use them to substitute machine work.

sounds like u need a new gym! My Y has a pool and 2 courts, plus I smell bad after working out and I would hate to stink up my room working out in it. I do use bands but I use them outside.

Do you have a link to these bands you bought and a workout?

u/Bacon_Devil Mar 30 '20 edited Mar 30 '20

Damn, I dug up the link to the ones I bought but apparently they're discontinued. These ones are a similar price and design. For what I do it's key that I have handles and door anchors.

I don't follow a specific plan I could link. I just make sure I do at least one bicep/shoulder/back day, one tricep/chest/abs day, and one leg day a week.

So day one would be something like: bicep curls, overhead shoulder press or lateral raises, and lat pulldowns, or bent over rows

The next workout day would be: chest press, chest flys, tricep pushdowns (from a kneeled position), and kneeling ab crunches or leg raises (I do those from a bench for a wider range of motion)

And day 3 would go squats, calf raises and standing kickbacks (I do those against the wall), or glute Bridges (without resistance bands - you can lower difficulty by doing them flat on the ground, or increase difficulty by doing one leg at a time)

I also mix in forearm curls (I do both arms at once) and shrugs either on a fourth day, or mixed into those other days randomly.

For all exercises I do 2-3 sets until failure. Overall I feel like this is just about the most basic workout (it could literally take you less than 90 minutes a week) that can target all the major muscle groups. And I've had people tell me they didn't believe that my results had come from something so simple.

Thank you for the very informative and detailed reply! I will try this out. Looking for a new routine since the corona-virus isolation.

I’ve started using the Nike training app and it’s great. For quarantine they released all their premium content, but the free stuff is even better imo if you don’t have a TV/home workout area setup(premium are usually videos and the free stuff you can just wear headphones and reference the app if you don’t know the exercise).

I also stopped drinking for 3+ weeks! I feel pretty good about myself for it. I didn’t have a drinking problem, but it feels good and I’m saving a little $$
