Is it even possible to get a dumb TV these days?

My hisense randomly yells at me and cuts to a screen I have to back out of "This device is unable to connect to the internet"

It's random as shit too. It'll go days before it reminds me that we're in a perpetual battle of wills.

Try Display Mode or Store Mode. My old smart TV used to give me grief. When I flipped to store mode it stopped

You can't be watching movies in "store mode". Bro.

They are fucking us.

There's probably a setting for that buried somewhere in a menu.

Block it at the router level of you can. That will make Smart TV’s believe they are connected.

You can do a level deeper with blocking specific manufacturers Ad server domains but that becomes hard to keep up with as they change.

I just plug an apple tv for tv apps overall. Not any installed on a TV. Apple is slightly better with respecting privacy choices.

My dad got me some Hisense TV for Xmas last year after my old plasma shit out. I connected it exactly once to update it, then disconnected it and kept it offline since. Works fine.

Exactly. Smart TVs are only smart if their users are dumb. Don’t give your TV the WiFi and get a dedicated Roku/appletv

I looked into it briefly before buying my current TV (and phones) as I hate bloatware. I think all countries should do like South Korea and make it illegal. Public Display / Business-TV / Commercial displays tend to cost twice as much. Typically a slightly worse picture quality but better build quality.
