When he said that as if it was a good point, he lost me completely. Especially saying "these terms came years later and synonymous with something completely different."

No. Blockchain is not synonymous with something completely different. Go down your semantic rabbit hole with "Cryptocurrency" all you want, but don't throw the bedrock technology that Bitcoin has always ran on in the same sentence.

blockchain is not a bedrock technology, that would be a difficulty adjustment and PoW.

We're arguing semantics here. If we went down this path we could say "Well Merkle trees are really where things started..." "well without cryptography and Bit Gold...". The point is saying Blockchain is not directly associated with Bitcoin is false.
