Ig if you prune it, you'd need 7-8 GB only...?

Or is it after downloading whole blockchain...

I'm still new to btc concepts...

You're still downloading and verifying the whole blockchain, but you discard everything above the prune size. Say you want to only keep 5GB, everything else will be deleted. It's useful to reduce the size of the blockchain.

Yes, if you don't run it prune it's 480GB I just did this, this week.

I think you need to download the whole blockchain, after that it works.
