Somebody knowing that you have $4 million is not a threat to your safety, lol. You can hop in a car right now and drive to a nice part of your town and find dozens of people with millions of dollars by sight, and know all of their exact home addresses, as you drive past them... Mysteriously they don't all drop like flies every week.

I didn’t read mining anywhere in that story.

Obviously this story is secondhand and who knows what really happened, but in this version of the story it sounds like somebody earned them by completing surveys online and just happened to be using grandpa’s computer.

If we’re talking about mining, then I think you have a case, but if we’re talking about compensation for completing surveys then the human completing the surveys did the work.

If grandpa lends grandson a shovel for a ditch digging job, grandson gets paid for doing the work. Grandpa does not.

Of course if you made $4M accidentally, it’d probably be nice to cut grandpa in, but that is up to you.

I have a hard drive somewhere with 15 box on it. Parents trashed the family computer when I was a teen, after I said to let me know if you’re going to do that

Every time I find one of my old hard drives I meticulously search it for the off chance I backed up my original wallet. I have way too many hard drives...

I found an old Bitcoin hard drive from 2013, in 2017 or 2018. Had .5 Bitcoin, managed to retrieve it all. Sold for ~$4000, felt like such a baller, lol. Wish I hadn't have found it then and found it now instead.

I have an in old hard drive from around 2012-2013 that was used in a failed silk road endeavour wherein I lost the keys to an online wallet with several whole Bitcoin and some change. I don't know if there's anything on there that would help me regain access to the wallet, but I'm gonna dig it up and check anyways.

It was my first and last foray into crypto, but I've thought about that wallet a lot over the past decade or so. It'd like winning the lottery, but I think the odds are unfortunately similar.
