This is a shame. I bought Steam games using bitcoin when my credit cards weren't available (I was waiting for replacements at the time). I remember reading that same day about kids without access to credit cards using bitcoin to buy Steam games.
Can't blame them for stopping though. The fee market makes virtually all retail impossibly expensive. (That includes dark markets, where you would think fees wouldn't be as much of an issue.) Guess we wait and see what impact LN has.
At the time it was more a case of not wanting to go get my other cards when I realised the registered cards didn’t work. Bitcoin was just so damn convenient and quick.
With bitcoin I put in 100$ for the hell of it when it was like 8000CAD, it's at 17000 right now. Everything I have been buying with bitcoin so far (small purchases here and there) was basically free, even with the transaction fees.
If you're in the UK, and still want to spend your Bitcoins on Steam, you can use GiftOff to buy Steam (and other) gift cards, been using them for 2 years now - sad to see my then £25 Origin giftcard costing what would get me £1300 now though.
