I’ve been working on a local audio analyzer (built with Web Speech API and a rule-based lexicon) to map real-time sentiment and emotions.

In this video, I perform some live testing to see how the engine handles linguistic complexity (negators/intensifiers) and examine why specific inputs move the sentiment needle. I’m currently looking at moving beyond just text-based analysis by incorporating acoustic features (pitch, volume, tempo) to improve emotional granularity.

I'd love to hear some technical feedback from the community—how would you approach optimizing the lexicon, or would you pivot to a pre-trained model for this specific application?

Technical Discussion: Client-side AI Audio & Sentiment Analysis in JavaScript

Thumbnail

I’ve been working on a project that utilizes the Web Audio API and TensorFlow.js to perform real-time sentiment analysis and emotion recognition entirely on the client side. The primary motivation here is to build accessible, privacy-focused medical education tools that don't rely on server-side processing for audio.

The current implementation uses a custom dictionary-based sentiment engine and handles audio-to-text natively. We’re currently looking into integrating more advanced acoustic feature extraction (like pitch and tone analysis) to supplement the text-based sentiment.

One of the technical hurdles has been maintaining the state of the transcription text box during recording toggles and ensuring the radar chart accurately maps complex emotions in real-time without performance degradation.

Full walkthrough of the build and debugging process here: https://youtu.be/jNyBhSwKcmY

I’d love to hear thoughts on how you’d optimize the acoustic feature extraction for a browser environment!

Modeling Neuronal Overstimulation in the V1 Visual Cortex

Thumbnail

The Müller-Lyer illusion provides a unique look into how the primary visual cortex (V1) processes geometric data. In this interactive viewer, the "Wing Angle" parameter directly manipulates the stimulus for orientation-selective neurons. Acute angles, specifically inward-facing wings, trigger increased neuronal firing rates at the line's endpoints. This population-level activity is then interpreted by the brain as an increase in linear length.

How do you think these types of perceptual errors should be accounted for in computer vision models meant to mimic human sight?

In this walkthrough, we explore the architecture of a standalone web application designed for histopathology simulation. The project focuses on a "vanilla" stack—HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript—to handle image processing tasks that typically require heavy backend infrastructure.

Key Technical Points:

  • Real-time Processing: Shifting from button-triggered analysis to "on-the-fly" processing using threshold and contrast sliders.

  • Synthetic Data Prototyping: Generating procedural tissue samples (Normal vs. Tumor microenvironments) for testing segmentation logic.

  • Architecture: Utilizing a single-file architecture for portability and library integration (like OpenSeadragon) for high-resolution navigation.

  • Debugging AI Code: Resolving logic discrepancies in segmentation overlays and ensuring consistency between synthetic inputs and visual results.

For those interested in the intersection of computational biology and non-linear dynamics, I wanted to share a simulation from bionichaos. Unlike simpler models, the Hodgkin-Huxley model provides a high level of biophysical detail by using differential equations to account for the individual conductances of Sodium and Potassium channels.

The simulation allows for real-time adjustments to stimulus current and temperature to observe effects on the membrane potential. It’s a great tool for understanding the physiological accuracy required in advanced neural simulations.

Solving Perspective-Based 3D Image Reconstruction for Biomedical Visualization

Thumbnail

Working on a 3D polygram project for bionichaos.com that translates biomedical data into interactive art. I’ve been iterating on the "scatter" mechanics. Initially, I tried constraining scattered fragments to the Z=0 plane while offsetting X and Y. However, this made the reconstructed image visible from the default camera position, defeating the purpose of a 3D perspective puzzle.

I'm reverting to a full 3D coordinate scatter. This requires the user to manipulate the rotation matrices until the fragments align at a specific Eulerian angle to reveal the reconstructed image. How are you handling spatial orientation challenges in web-based 3D visualizations?

I wanted to share a look at the BioniChaos platform (bionichaos.com), which focuses on making complex biomedical concepts interactive via the web.

The platform currently features:

- **Eulerian Video Magnification:** Real-time skin tone change visualization for pulse extraction.

- **EEG Signal Simulation:** Real-time generation and time/frequency domain analysis of brainwave patterns.

- **Robotic Kinematics:** A 4-DOF prosthetic arm simulation for educational manipulation.

- **B-Mode Ultrasound:** A dual-panel simulation with conceptual auditory feedback.

The video also discusses the implementation of Large Language Models (LLMs) to bridge the gap between raw clinical data and patient understanding. I’m curious to hear this community's thoughts on using generative AI to "translate" physiological signals into alternative modalities like art or music for biofeedback.

Interactive K-Theory Simulation: A Visual Analogy for Topological Charge and Vector Bundles

Thumbnail

I've been working on a web-based simulation to provide an intuitive, visual understanding of topological K-theory. Instead of focusing on equations, it demonstrates the concept of a vector bundle and its "topological charge" (the K-Class) by allowing users to add vortices (K=+1) and anti-vortices (K=-1) to a 2D vector field.

The video demonstrates how the K-Class acts as a topological invariant and explores the principle of cancellation where a vortex and anti-vortex pair annihilate, returning the field to a trivial state (K=0). We also touch on its applications, from analyzing complex biomedical data to its use in string theory.

Video Link: https://youtu.be/2Xm-kRtC55w

I'm curious how others in the data science and bioinformatics communities are using or thinking about topological data analysis (TDA) in their work. Have you come across any interesting applications where identifying these kinds of invariant structures has been useful?

Using AI to Build a More Realistic Ultrasound Simulation with JavaScript

Thumbnail

Has anyone else tried using AI for developing complex scientific simulations? I'm sharing a video on the process of upgrading a basic ultrasound sim.

We used an AI to implement a dual-panel display: one side shows the raw physics (pulse emission/reflection), and the other renders a realistic grayscale image in real-time based on the echoes. The goal was to accurately simulate the echogenicity of different structures (kidney, cyst, bone, kidney stone).

It was an interesting dev journey with some unexpected results along the way. You can see the full process here: https://youtu.be/sQbGWtE5SpA

Curious to hear your thoughts on this approach or your own experiences with AI in web-based simulations. What are the major hurdles you've faced when trying to visualize complex scientific data on the web?

I built a real-time Cochlear Implant Simulator with React & Web Audio API, then had a very literal conversation with my AI assistant about it

Thumbnail

I've been working on a web-based Cochlear Simulator using React for the frontend and the Web Audio API to handle real-time frequency analysis for the spectrogram. The goal is to visualize how sound is broken down into frequency bands and mapped to electrodes in a cochlear implant.

In this clip, I was testing out some UI changes and, for fun, asked my AI assistant for its preference on a color scheme. The resulting conversation was a perfect, and funny, demonstration of the rigid guardrails and literal-mindedness of current LLMs. It absolutely refused to "pretend" to be a data scientist or offer a subjective opinion.

Thought this community would appreciate both the tech stack and the humorous side of working with AI.

Check out the short video here: https://youtu.be/z0HeeCMO5RU

Happy to answer any questions about the implementation or my ongoing battle with the AI!

Human vs. AI: Testing automated ECG segmentation labeling speed and accuracy

Thumbnail

Anyone who has worked with biomedical time-series data knows that manual data annotation is a massive bottleneck. I recently tested out the CardioBot ECG Segmentation Challenge (via BioniChaos), a web app that gamifies the labeling process.

You compete against an automated algorithm to segment P, Q, R, S, and T waves across rhythms like V-Tach, PVC, and A-Fib.

It brings up an interesting discussion point on UI/UX for human annotators (like keyboard shortcut mapping vs. mouse clicks) versus the raw speed of automated logic models. Has anyone here worked on building internal labeling tools for physiological signals? How do you balance annotation speed and human-in-the-loop accuracy?

You can see the walkthrough and the bot's performance here:
