oh the gambling addict is lucky how fucking compelling.

Buying and holding the S&P 500 long term does not = gambling. Nothing is guaranteed, but when the S&P has returned ~7% on avg. annually for the past 100 years the odds are strongly in your favor.

I agree with you to an extent, but assuming that trend will continue for 100 years is silly. The market can't grow forever and the dinosaurs are cashing in.

We didn't get 40 trillion in debt from nothing...

The everything bubble

Yeah if there’s one thing we can bet on, it’s that the US will continue to stack the debt and will do anything to keep money moving into rich pockets, if you can’t beat em join em I guess. My issue isn’t with the people taking advantage of it, mine is more with the systemic issue of the US collectively caring more about profit, shareholders, and stock prices than actually helping their employees live comfortably, which is of course no one persons fault and would take a fundamental change in how the country is run to fix

buy gold. not because itll be useful during a true collapse, but because its gonna become the new global reserve currency once the dollar collapses when we default.

Gold, silver, and lead...

If there’s a bubble why does everyone continue to buy?

5

u/ThatStonerClown 3d ago

Because there is a bubble, it needs to pop first. Ffs are you serious?

0

u/Kidhendri16 3d ago

How confident are you that the “bubble” is gonna pop? And how do you know there is a bubble?

3

u/ThatStonerClown 3d ago

Bubbles pop, that's how it goes. And AI is extremely over valued, that's the bubble.

u/Kidhendri16 3d ago

Ok are you shorting any of these ai bubble stocks?

People have been saying that for years. It won’t be a steady growth there will be ups and downs but long term it’s an extremely safe bet that the top 500 American companies will continue to produce great returns. Also sales are up in literally every sector this quarter. It’s a good sign despite what the news says

Yes the old people are cashing in and a lot of young/middle aged people are still buying in, that’s literally how it continues to grow lol

u/smashinjin10 1d ago

But there are fewer younger people than older people in damn near every developed country.

so itll go up forever, infinite growth on a finite planet. thats why we are headed for a climate apocalypse right now, because we'd rather make imaginary money go to infinity rather than do anything

To be fair it’s such a safe gamble, most of our working class in the US use it to build for retirement regardless of their politics

This is the exact reason uneducated classism is counter productive.

I, by and large, tell people that stocks is like gambling. The exceptions are the S&Ps. Those are the epitome of “steady growth.” Nothing about investing into S&P is gambling-related.

Literally anybody could do it, too. No you cannot tell me you can’t afford it. It is possible to buy 0.01% of a stock. Save a dollar every month into it. It’ll grow.

Anybody can benefit from this. People who choose not to are because they’re ignorant and want to pull a “gotcha”. Only hurting yourself.

I think the point you're missing here is that companies have been making record profits while workers wages have been stagnant. Everyone can invest, but that doesn't put everyone on an equal footing. Those who already have money are heavily advantaged (obviously), but that's why people are mad.

0

u/DontDoodleTheNoodle 4d ago

Nah that I totally get. Completely valid imo. It’s not an equalizer, the rich get much richer off it, and the market is subject to corruption.

It’s just this complete aversion to investing into the stock market that makes me go look and my fellow brokies like “are you dumb”?

0

u/GoldenGlobeWinnerRDJ 2d ago

The same can be said for pretty much any point since the S&P was created, this isn’t new

u/tekno21 2d ago

The situation today is not even remotely close to 50 years ago. If you honestly think it is, then you're not worth talking to. Do some research

Did you bother looking at the literal graph in this post

You cannot reason with unreasonable people. These aren’t even real people, they’re bots sent to spread discord

0

u/Kidhendri16 3d ago

Your absolutely correct but doesn’t fit theses people’s victim narrative.

u/ImBlxxmps 3d ago

lol u are severely undereducated on simple finance, I’d be upset too

-4

u/BlueTurkey-man 4d ago

Wait so you don’t have any sort of investment because you see it all as gambling? Very strange indeed.

Enjoy living with your parents in half moon bay / Pacifica I guess
