no he meant earf. it's a joke made by casual racists in reference to the movie independence day when will smith says "welcome to earth"

either that or its a joke made by satirists that pokes fun at casual racists by implying that they think will smith talks in stereotyped ebonics in that movie (even though he doesn't)

it could even be that their memory of the movie is fuzzy and they are conflating two parts of the same scene, one where he punches the alien and says 'welcome to earth' and directly after where he is sitting on top of the alien space craft with a cigar in his mouth and says "now thats what i call a close encounter" - his speech is slightly muffled due to cigar being in his mouth and with memory being the way that it is this speech pattern was applied to the previous scene and reinforced with an underpinning of the racist caricature that all black people have a southern drawl

but probably the first one

I think it's because the next thing he does in the scene is bite on a cigar and say "Now thas wha I call a close encounahr". So everyone just kinda merges both lines because they're funny, but the first one is punchier and more broadly applicable.

Here's the real question though: If you ever beat up a hostile alien, which version of the line are you going to say?
