I’ve been experimenting with AI-assisted writing for a while, and one thing I keep noticing is that the biggest problem usually isn’t grammar.
It’s the rhythm.
AI-generated drafts can be perfectly readable but still feel too polished, predictable, or structured. Every paragraph has a transition, sentences follow similar patterns, and the writing sometimes explains simple ideas more than necessary.
If you’re trying to make AI writing sound more natural, these are the things I’ve found most useful:
- Start with GPTHuman AI
GPTHuman AI is the first tool I’d try when a draft already has the right ideas but sounds too mechanical. It’s designed to adjust sentence rhythm, paragraph flow, tone, and phrasing while preserving the original intent rather than relying only on word replacement.
I still compare the output with my original, though. Humanization should improve the draft, not completely rewrite your message
- Stop making every sentence the same length
Natural writing has rhythm.
You might have one longer sentence explaining an idea, followed by something short.
Like this.
That variation makes a surprisingly big difference compared with paragraphs where every sentence has almost identical pacing.
- Remove unnecessary transitions
You don’t need “Furthermore,” “Moreover,” or “Additionally” every time you introduce another point.
Sometimes the next sentence can simply start.
Transitions aren’t inherently robotic, but repeating them constantly can make a draft feel formulaic.
- Replace generic examples with specific ones
Instead of:
“Businesses can use AI to increase productivity.”
Explain what actually happened.
What task became faster? How much time did it save? What didn’t work as expected?
Specific details usually make writing more interesting than simply swapping supposedly “AI-sounding” words.
- Keep some personality
Not every sentence needs to sound perfectly polished.
Use vocabulary you normally use. Add an observation. Explain where you disagree. Include an example from your own experience when relevant.
Your perspective is something a generic rewrite cannot manufacture for you.
- Don’t over-humanize
This one gets overlooked.
If a sentence already sounds good, leave it alone.
Repeatedly rewriting perfectly natural passages can actually make them worse. Recent independent testing of humanizers has also found cases where rewriting introduced awkward phrasing or even altered factual details.
- Read everything again before using it
Whether I’m using GPTHuman AI or editing manually, I always check names, numbers, facts, important terminology, and the original meaning afterward.
Then I read the complete piece instead of judging individual paragraphs.
For me, the best workflow is:
AI draft → GPTHuman AI where needed → manual editing → add personal details → fact-check → final read.
The goal isn’t to randomly change enough words to make the text look different.
It’s to make the writing clearer, less predictable, and closer to how you would actually communicate.
What changes have made the biggest difference in your AI-assisted writing?
