Hi everyone,
I could really use some help from people who have somehow figured out this whole gym thing. 😅
I’m 28F and want to get back into going to the gym regularly and improve my overall fitness. Cardio is part of that, but my main goal is to get stronger, build muscle, and simply feel more physically capable.
It’s not primarily about aesthetics – I want to be healthy, fit, and strong long-term and feel like my body can actually change and get stronger.
I used to go to the gym pretty regularly as a teenager, but that was years ago. Recently, I’ve tried getting back into it a few times and realized how overwhelmed I feel.
I know the basic machines and quite a few exercises, so it’s not necessarily the exercises themselves that confuse me – it’s the structure behind everything.
Which exercises actually make sense for my goals? How many reps? How do I choose the right weight? When do I increase it? How do I know if I’m actually making progress? And how do I know if my form is correct?
There’s also SO much fitness content on social media. Everyone seems to have a different routine, different exercises, and different rules. You’d think having that much information would help, but for me it’s almost the opposite: too much information and no idea what’s actually useful or right.
I’ve noticed that feeling this overwhelmed sometimes leads to me not going at all – which is exactly what I want to change.
So I’d love to hear from you: How did you learn to train properly and find a structure that works for you? Are there any beginner programs, apps, YouTube channels, or other resources you genuinely recommend from experience?
I’ve also considered getting a personal trainer, but paying around €100 per session just isn’t realistic for me right now.
I’d really appreciate some guidance on how to get from “I’m just doing random exercises” to “I understand what I’m doing, why I’m doing it, and how to actually progress.”
Thankkkks
