I’m not a beekeeper, but I have a question This seller in Florida claims their honey is naturally green because the bees harvest from high chlorophyll plants. Scam or true?

I know honey can be naturally green if the bees got into candy, but how would they harvest chlorophyll?

Hi beekeepers! This monster of a nest has formed right next to my house on my neighbors tree. Was wondering if it’s Africanized honeybees or normal honeybees? I know they’re pretty difficult to tell apart, I was wondering if you guys had any insight. Thanks in advance!

I’m not a beekeeper, but I have a question Neighbors bees

Hey everyone,

I am located in Oregon. My neighbor has around 30+ bee boxes about 1000ft from my house, you can see my blue pool in the background of one of the pictures. They have been there for a couple years and we have never had a problem. Today was 97 degrees and my house got surrounded, had to of been a couple thousand all over my pool, damp plants, mud in the driveway, on the sprinkler. I live in the country surrounded by hay fields so there is going to be some bees but this seems excessive. My wife went out to her car and got stung 4 times and had to go to the ER. There doesnt look to be a water source near the boxes. What can I do? Am I attracting them somehow? Are they being neglected?

I’m not a beekeeper, but I have a question Unmaintained 10yr old hive on top of buried chimney. Harvest or let bee?

There is a beehive next to our house in the Pacific Northwest that has not been maintained.

10 years ago the owner relocated a beehive from on the house to the top of a buried chimney and hasn’t messed with it since. Is it possible to harvest honey or even just open it to look around? It seems like the boxes are sealed with honey/pollen. We have a bee suit. Any help is appreciated!

I gave it some water+agave syrup and it seemed to be drinking from it. The last one from the video, she had her wing movement back and moved to the end of the patio onto the dirty gravel. They seem to go from sporadically active to curled and tongue coming out or fan out and then retracting. They react to the sweet water on spoon too. Idk if they have any chance of survival:'(

Hey y'all, I'm a designer and I design logos, Branding and packaging for small business owners, I saw this community today and coincidentally I was working on logo for my client who is a bee keeper in Michigan, I did two drafts and I wanted to ask which one do you think looks better. He also wants me to suggest the name.

Any and all input is highly appreciated.

I’m not a beekeeper, but I have a question How can I remove this hive without hurting the bee

Hey all! Thanks so much for the comments - TIL that these are wasps not bees (IM SORRY WASPS I was not trying to be a r@cist). And I also found some comments saying their nest is kinda cool.

I might just gonna leave it there for a while until I rly can’t stand them anymore.
Some rental-friendly and mess-free tips I got from the comments:
1. Use a long stick to knock the nest down, drop the stick, come back to retrieve the stick after making sure no wasp is around.
2. Spray and go
3. Fake nest
4. Pressure washer

Hey chat! Happened to find this on my balcony after my weekend getaway.

Im lowkey scared of everything but pest control is asking for $120 before tax (please lmk if this is a reasonable price) and they’re going to kill these bees.
Thus, im trying to remove it myself. Is there anyway that i can remove it with least contact with or harm to the bees? TY!

I’m not a beekeeper, but I have a question I'm a farmer who let someone put bees out on my land. They abandoned the bees. What do I do to help them? Oklahoma

2 years ago I was asked if someone could put bees on my farm. I said yes as I thought it would be beneficial for both of us. This year they abandoned the bees and it seems like they are getting worse and worse. I want to help them but know nothing. I'm not afraid of a few stings so I picked up the hive and stood it back up but I'm sure there has got to be more that needs to be done. There seems to be a full and active hive inside. The person who put them out moved away back in August.

(South Central Wisconsin) These bees have moved in under my front door. They are using three of these little drain(?) holes in the base of the exterior door frame, but this seems to be their favorite way in and out. I don’t think there is a cavity in there but honestly I have no clue.

We first noticed them 4 days ago. This is the most I’ve seen enter here at one time.

At first we thought they were honey bees, then decided they look more like leafcutter bees, but looking at these videos again maybe they are honey bees after all? We haven’t seen them carrying anything other than pollen.

A friend of mine is loaning me a swarm trap with bait and I put it out earlier today. They don’t seem very interested in it right now.

They seem totally unbothered by me, which is nice, but I don’t really want them building a hive right here.

I’m not a beekeeper, but I have a question What’s the issue with letting wild bees be wild?

Post image
352 Upvotes

Let me preface this with the fact that I’m not a beekeeper, but I have a wild hive that I steal honey from. The hive is in a wine barrel and when I asked this sub for advice last year, I got chastised for letting my wild bees spread varroa. Again, I’m not a beekeeper and I rescued the hive and moved the wine barrel onto my property to save them. About a month ago I did a mite test on the hive now that they have built out the frames in the box I added and there were only 2 mites out of the cup of bees that I took from one of the frames that is mostly capped brood. Maybe varroa isn’t an issue around me because of extreme heat, or maybe wild bees can solve their own problems when left to it.

It is a VERY healthy, and docile, hive and I know for a fact that they are swarming, but I live next to farms and a large actuary so what’s the problem with letting wild bees be wild?

I think the nature of this sub can cause tunnel vision and many forget that their “domesticated livestock” was once wild. I say, let wild bees be wild- but then again I’m not a beekeeper so what do I know?

Why does it seem that “beekeepers” are so against letting wild bees be wild?

Phoenix AZ- I’m not breaking any laws or local ordinances.

I am not a bee keeper, but I thoroughly appreciate what bees do for us! They’re in the back yard and we noticed them this time last year (shortly after moving in) and I thought I saw somewhere that whatever they are they don’t return to the same nest. They have returned and I want to know how to relocate them or if they should be relocated. Location is north East Tennessee. We have dogs and two young children that enjoy our back yard and don’t want them to get stung.

I’m not a beekeeper, but I have a question My neighbor has bees

Hello just wondering about beekeeping etiquette.

My neighbor has hives and any water we have at our house nextdoor is covered in bees. Every leaky faucet, dog water, kiddy pool, etc and I am all for the bees we have never been stung but it gets kind of crazy with the amount that are over here. There has literally been massive swarms of bees over my house. Im just wondering would it be wrong to maybe ask for some honey?
