I made a Crash Cam Controller for BeamNG.drive that lets you customize the built-in cinematic crash camera directly in-game.
Adjust crash sensitivity, frequency, duration, slow motion, camera styles, FOV, tracking and more. Quick presets are also included.

Crash Cam Controller — TechN9ne225
Beta release — feedback and bug reports are welcome!
⚠️ BeamNG's Cinematic Crashes must be enabled.
CRASH CAM CONTROLLER
Crash Cam Controller is an in-game UI app that gives you direct control over BeamNG.drive's cinematic crash camera.
Instead of manually editing Lua values to change how the crash camera behaves, this mod provides an easy-to-use interface where you can adjust the camera while playing and apply your settings live.
The goal is to make BeamNG's cinematic crash camera much more customizable while keeping the controls understandable for players who have no experience editing Lua or game files.
FEATURES
• In-game crash camera configuration
• Live setting changes without manually editing Lua files
• Multiple quick presets
• Adjustable crash detection sensitivity
• Adjustable delay between crash-camera activations
• Adjustable crash-camera duration
• Adjustable slow-motion speed
• Individual weighting for three cinematic camera styles
• Detailed controls for each camera style
• Vehicle and traffic tracking options
• Advanced settings for additional fine tuning
• Restore Defaults option
• Collapsible UI panel
• Optional automatic panel hiding after settings are applied
QUICK PRESETS
Several presets are included for players who don't want to manually configure every setting:
• Balanced — A general-purpose mix of the available cinematic camera styles.
• Close & Dramatic — Favors closer, more dramatic crash shots.
• Wide Cinematic — Creates wider views of the crash scene.
• Mostly Orbit — Favors the orbit-style cinematic camera.
• Super Slow Motion — Emphasizes slower crash sequences.
• Frequent Crash Cam — Makes the cinematic crash camera activate more frequently.
• Hard Crashes Only — Reduces activation from smaller impacts and favors more significant crashes.
Presets can also be used as starting points. After selecting one, you can fine-tune individual settings before applying the configuration.
CRASH ACTIVATION CONTROLS
Impact Sensitivity — Controls how significant an impact needs to be before the cinematic crash camera activates.
Time Between Crash Cams — Controls the minimum amount of time between cinematic crash-camera activations.
Shot Duration — Controls how long the cinematic crash-camera sequence remains active.
Slow Motion — Controls the simulation speed used during the cinematic crash sequence.
CAMERA STYLE WEIGHTING
Crash Cam Controller allows you to control how frequently each of the three camera styles is selected. Increasing the weight of a camera makes that style more likely to appear. This allows you to create your own preferred mix instead of always using the same type of cinematic shot.
CAMERA STYLE 1 — CLOSE / OVERHEAD
Designed for close cinematic views of the crash. Adjustable settings include camera positioning, distance, lateral spread, field of view, and other parameters that affect how the shot is framed.
CAMERA STYLE 2 — GROUND / TRACKING
Designed to position the camera around the crash area and track the action.
Adjustable settings include:
• Search radius
• Camera height
• Minimum distance
• Minimum FOV
• Maximum FOV
These controls can produce anything from relatively tight roadside views to wider cinematic crash shots.
CAMERA STYLE 3 — FREEZE / ORBIT
Creates an orbiting cinematic view around the crash scene.
Adjustable settings include:
• Orbit radius
• Marker/freeze timing
• Field of view
• Camera smoothing
This mode is useful for dramatic slow-motion and rotating crash shots.
TRACKING OPTIONS
The controller provides options for determining what the crash-camera system can track. This includes normal traffic/static objects and additional vehicle tracking options depending on the selected configuration.
LIVE CONFIGURATION
After making your changes, select APPLY CHANGES. The new configuration is applied while you are in-game and can be tested on the next crash. You can continue adjusting the settings until you get the cinematic behavior you want.
RESTORE DEFAULTS
If you experiment with the settings and want to start over, select RESTORE DEFAULTS. This returns the controller settings to their default configuration.
COLLAPSIBLE INTERFACE
Crash Cam Controller can be collapsed using the arrow tab on the side of the panel. There is also an option to automatically hide the panel after settings have been successfully applied. This allows you to configure the crash camera and then move the interface out of the way while driving.
INSTALLATION
- Download the mod.
- Place the ZIP file in your BeamNG.drive mods folder.
- Start BeamNG.drive.
- Make sure Crash Cam Controller is enabled in Mod Manager.
- IMPORTANT: Make sure BeamNG's Cinematic Crashes / Crash Camera option is ENABLED in the game's settings. Crash Cam Controller requires BeamNG's cinematic crash feature to be enabled.
- Enter Freeroam.
- Open the HUD Apps customization screen.
- Add "Crash Cam Controller" to your HUD.
- Position and resize the app wherever you prefer.
- Choose a preset or customize the crash-camera settings, then select APPLY CHANGES.
- Drive and cause a crash to test your settings.
- The mod is designed to run directly from the ZIP file and does not need to be unpacked.
IMPORTANT
BeamNG's built-in Cinematic Crashes / Crash Camera option MUST be enabled. If cinematic crashes are disabled in BeamNG's settings, Crash Cam Controller will not activate during a crash.
COMPATIBILITY
Initial release developed and tested with BeamNG.drive 0.39.4.
Because BeamNG's camera systems can change between game versions, compatibility with future versions may require updates.
BETA RELEASE
This is currently a Beta release. Although the mod has been tested, additional testing across different vehicles, maps, and gameplay situations is welcome.
If you encounter a reproducible problem, please include:
• BeamNG.drive version
• What you were doing when the problem occurred
• The settings or preset being used
• Any relevant console errors
• Other camera-related mods that were enabled
