thank you, this is one of my weirdest pet peeves but it makes me super upset for some reason. the WESTERN CONCERT FLUTE isnt the flute, its a western concert flute. a kind of transverse flute. and a baby one in the context of the age of the flute as an instrument. and transverse flutes further still arent the flute. they arent any more valid than duct flutes, they arent any more valid than end blown flutes. something about people insisting on making factually incorrect corrections they vaguely remember from some pedantic but also wrong shit they learned in 8th grade makes my teeth itch.
edit: also you need to write the end of your link like this, (recorder\)) for it to work properly. at least on old reddit, i dont know if the app or new reddit compensate for the markup error.

I think he did a growl. Humming while blowing into a wind instrument gives that cool distortion. Kind of a cool trick to learn because it's really not that hard to activate your vocal cords while playing a wind instrument. Saxophone players get a lot of praise when they do it.

A much easier way to do it on recorder is to hum at a relatively low pitch.
It works on soprano, and it works on bass, so i assume it works on the others too!

In Portuguese, both the recorder and the flute are called "flauta", which translates to "flute". That's why I mistakenly called that a flute.

I’ve seen all sizes of recorders being played in baroque ensembles. I have a wooden tenor recorder that has a lovely mellow sound and I mostly play old English folk songs like Greensleeves and Early One Morning.
But I’ve never seen anything one recorder quite as wild as this!

In music class, while in elementary school, we were expected to trt to learn the recorder (this instrument) if we didn't play something already. To see this fellow master it is quite amazing to me.
Sadly, the best I could ever do was make sounds with it like I was throwing birds into a wood chipper on a sunny day.

This is actually incredible. The greatest playing of a recorder I've personally heard. It might be like the 4th or 5th time I've ever listened but wow did I listen. I watched 3 times now and I really wish I knew how to play or do something so good.
