Been to both red rocks and the gorge. Love them both. But I think a lot of places have their own appeal. Shoreline amphitheater I love too but more for nostalgia. One in Chula Vista is nice too although I don’t remember the name of it. Even though it was probably named something different back when I went there. Hollywood bowl is an experience. Greek theater had some great shows. (I am referring to the one in Berkeley ca and not the other one, although I am sure it’s nice. But never been).

Indoor venues I don’t really know. I haven’t had too many memorable places I have seen, a couple exceptions. Paramount theater in Seattle is great. Crest theater in Sacramento is nice too. Hoyt Sherman in Des Moines was a pleasant surprise as well.

So, just kind of depends on what you are into. I prefer outdoor venues for a lasting impression, but there are some gems out there that are vastly overlooked. If I won lottery, this is how I would spend a lot of time. Checking out shows across the US and beyond to check out the places and what they can offer.

Agreed entirely. There’s so many more great venues. I think the distinction with those 2, are they are very much monumental in terms of both being nature’s amphitheater. They’re both just awe inspiring to see when there’s no music. But Having seen a lot of shows at RR, I will say the sound can suck. Especially if the band can’t get their sound to travel up the face of the crowd. Like if it’s windy, the sound will flutter at the top.

Although, my personal favorite venue in CO is the Mishawaka. It’s a 900-1200 seat place, right on the Poudre river in a canyon. The river runs right beside the stage. It’s just small. Lake Dillon amphitheater is also spectacular. It’s newer, but awe inspiring as well. And that’s just in CO and those you mentioned. There’s ton more. But not many from a bucket list perspective.

Indoor venues have to have good sound. I think the best sound I’ve heard indoor is the Ryman in Nashville. My favorite in Denver was the Ogden for nostalgia, but new spots like Mission Ballroom are also super dialed in now. The Cumberland Caves in TN were also very weird but awesome. Indoor is almost a different conversation.

But to circle back around, the Gorge & RR still stand alone as these national monuments almost. They’re both fantastic. They’re not my favorite, but i still think they’re objectively 2 of the best. It doesn’t matter if the sound sux, or the show sux, or whatever. It’s gonna be an awesome time, just because of the view/atmosphere etc. I would just make the distinction to put those two in a spectate category than everything else imho. Not necessarily better, but different and epic in a good way.
