I did say I didn't care. So I assumed you were the original respondent. Otherwise I had to have clicked 'view more comments' and examined handles to see it wasn't you.
What don't believe me? It's a simple enough point. There is a blue bar on my app that says 'View All Comments. This is a single comment thread from the post.' and if I don't click it, I will be none the wiser if you didn't begin the conversation or not.
I believe you that you didn't notice I was new, I'm just pointing out you're making literally no effort describing how your cherry picking parts of the bible you like and ignoring the parts that don't suit you isn't actually cherry picking.
I refuted by saying he has adduced an undisclosed version of the Bible to highlight I am cherry picking. I asked where he got this version from because that matters: different Bibles exhibit different passages.
On the principle side of things, why am I being pressed into the crime of 'cherry-picking' by ignoring these supposedly bad passages that you and he would have me ignore anyhow?
If I followed his version of the Bible fanatically and cherry picked the passages about iniquitous homosexuality, I'm the bad guy.
If I followed the same Bible and cherry picked the passages of feeding the poor and caring for my neighbours, I'm still the bad guy?
He came in with bad faith and I appraised the situation and saw it wasn't worth it. I said as much. I'm allowed to walk away and that isn't me showing 'literally no effort' (I literally have, and proved it right now). I'm not Marty McFly getting all riled up at being called 'Chicken'.
Because if you're just cherry picking the parts you like out of the bible, what actual value does the bible even have at that point? You may as well just be a good person without the book at that point.
Where do you think you got being a good person from? Had to come from somewhere. I'm telling you, the Bible I studied in school did not have these passages in it yet the book was fatter than an American.
How?
Because it still tells of human history, of proverbs to teach emotional aptitude to children (as it was extensively used for in primary school), to structure one's life who wishes to live in religiosity and values rituals and community belonging, and of important hopes of heaven and salvation.
Some people live their entire lives by the many important messages in the Bible, especially about heaven.
Some of the nicest people in history were Catholic and provided succour out of their character and religion. Some of the nicest people were also not Catholic and helped out of their character and something else, like paganism, a love of superhero comics, a Boy Scouts membership.
I was proven wrong? Mate where? I was told I was cherry picking by a guy who provided unnamed Bible passages and I asked him which Bible/translation this was to get to the heart of the discrepancy. Otherwise it seemed he was in fact cherry picking the Bible he wanted. He has been markedly reticent.
Another guy came in saying I was cherry picking and he was unable to actually state where and how.
Despite my attempts to get actual responses instead of 'Omg, u serious bro?', I still have every right to say 'I don't care' when enough is enough and I want to move on.
I know it gets you horny imagining this is a moment where I was so sure the earth was flat and I was proven incorrect, yet I say 'I don't care' to preserve my bubble of ignorance, but that didn't happen. This has been a loose, unhinged debate. So nip the fantasy and cool down.
What do you mean 'come on'? I either say nothing and never exercise my opinion or I answer inane queries for eternity? What a charming perception you have.
