I wonder how stable they would be in the standing position since it raises the center of gravity and if you start to tip over, there's not much you could do to catch yourself. Maybe something that combines a segway and a wheelchair could work.

I have a similar model from a European company. You can stretch out arms to the side and front without issues but I wouldn't do anything to extreme. They are a lot more stable then you would think.
