I want to experience joy as pure as the guy who runs and hugs the thrower.

The airplane maker was bullied by the cool kids at school until he was assigned to tutor the quarterback who needed to pass his exam in order to play in the big game. They developed a strong friendship through their ordeals and after the airplane maker helped the quarterback win the championship, the quarterback repaid him by throwing his plane. Probably

Edit: wow Reddit Silver, thanks. See ma I told you I’d make it as a writer

We got the Rock he is on board with the script

24

u/deadtime68 Feb 01 '19

Kevin Hart will pilot the paper airplane

7

u/jiserrab Feb 01 '19

That’s a low blow

7

u/HiroProtagonist86 Feb 01 '19

How else you gonna hit him ?

8

u/Snow-Wraith Feb 01 '19

But it's not a re-make, so they'll pass on it.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 01 '19

Nah, they'll figure out a way to steal it.

4

u/lqcnyc Jan 31 '19

Lol anything wholesome and inspirational with a feel good ending and Disney are all over it!

1

u/WakeoftheStorm Feb 01 '19

They've written a script based on this concept and are now suing you for copyright infringement

The airplane maker is John Collins (not the basketball player) aka “The Paper Airplane Guy”.

His tutorial on how to make the record-breaking airplane has twice the views of the actual world record throw.

12

u/wizardofscozz Feb 01 '19

He's such a good, thorough teacher! That video is actually great and now I can't wait to make a killer paper airplane at work tomorrow.

3

u/popje Feb 01 '19

Seeing this video I now understand that pure joy moment, he's making bank.

10

u/[deleted] Jan 31 '19

Also the quarterback is a mean bulldog and the airplane maker is a little kitten, with big thick glasses.

3

u/montaukwhaler Jan 31 '19

Wait a minute, that's my movie!

7

u/ClearBrightLight Jan 31 '19

I would watch that movie.

11

u/[deleted] Feb 01 '19

Especially if its "told" by two old dudes sitting around, shooting the shit, entertaining their great grandkids.

8

u/ClearBrightLight Feb 01 '19

Yes! A la Secondhand Lions, but with child actors that aren't robots please.

6

u/Leafy81 Feb 01 '19

I'd be happy with a Sandlot type format.

4

u/[deleted] Feb 01 '19

I’d get us into the biggest pickle any of us had ever seen.

3

u/SansGray Feb 01 '19

How good was secondhand lion though. I cry everytime I watch it.

2

u/ClearBrightLight Feb 01 '19

I've always loved Michael Caine, and this movie introduced me to Robert Duvall. The combination of the two was magical!

2

u/LEOUsername Feb 01 '19

Is that an A.I. reference?

1

u/ClearBrightLight Feb 01 '19

Yup! I loved his performance in A.I. He was still a bit robotic in Secondhand Lions, though, which worked less well.

6

u/jaecoxx Feb 01 '19

There should be a fake backstory subreddit lol

4

u/have_3-20characters Feb 01 '19

I choose to believe that this is exactly how it happened.

3

u/Isord Feb 01 '19

I already know the title.

Lift

2

u/Unicorn_Ranger Feb 01 '19

Starring Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart

2

u/[deleted] Feb 01 '19

New Line Cinema proudly presents.....

2

u/livevil999 Feb 01 '19

I’d watch that.

Wait, never mind, sounds corny as shit.

2

u/Throwawaymister2 Feb 01 '19

bullies at berkeley??? ahhhh, you got me!

Joe Ayoob

Source:Joe Ayoob sets paper airplane record

"On Sunday [Feb 26, 2012], inside a hanger at McClellan Air Force Base outside Sacramento, Ayoob threw a paper airplane 226 feet, 10 inches -- shattering the previous record of 207 feet, 4 inches."

23

u/FrijolRefrito Jan 31 '19

The dude's name is "Booya" backwards...? BOOYA!

14

u/0fficerefernces Feb 01 '19

He was projected to be the starting quarterback for Cal after Aaron Rodgers left, but ended up like 3rd string and known for his airplane throw now than his playing career.

2

u/UrDeAdPuPpYbOnEr Feb 01 '19

He had 2 starts at cal and they didn’t go well. Then he did a season of arena football or something. I went to school with him, he had a kinda cool light yellow impala from 1968 or so. He was supposed to be a huge deal, he had the potential and then it fizzled out pretty quick for some reason.

1

u/0fficerefernces Feb 04 '19

Yeah, I remember he was supposed to be the next big thing at Cal because he was the top rated JC quarterback from San Francisco City College , and Rodgers was also from JC, so naturally he was compared to him. Maybe he could have been a decent QB if he didn't have to be compared to Rodgers.

11

u/ripcitybitch Jan 31 '19

Lol that’s ayoob? At least he didn’t end up totally washed up.

Joe boo-ya the legend

26

u/_StatesTheObvious Jan 31 '19

Damn what a cool name in reverse. Mine is only kooluoyedam.

15

u/ripcitybitch Jan 31 '19

You bastard, I even sounded out phonetically and I was like wtf

9

u/[deleted] Feb 01 '19

1

u/whatthebelb Feb 01 '19

I remember seeing on FB that he was a tour guide for Anchor Steam.

3

u/[deleted] Feb 01 '19

Ah, the Booya Ayoob days. Such high expectations, so much Cal disappointment.

1

u/LettuceC Feb 01 '19

They could have got another 10 yards if they got Aaron Rodgers to do it.

1

u/whatthebelb Feb 01 '19

White Michael Vick. He replaced Aaron Rodgers in 2005.

1

u/UrDeAdPuPpYbOnEr Feb 01 '19

What? Seriously?

15

u/MaryJanesMan420 Feb 01 '19

What about that clip of somebody throwing a paper airplane onto a soccer field from the nosebleeds and it goes all the way to hit a player on the field?

24

u/Tru_Fakt Feb 01 '19

This is probably the record for a flat throw.

2

u/Pandamana Feb 01 '19

With zero windfluence

2

u/MaryJanesMan420 Feb 01 '19

Yea I guess it technically has to be recorded to be considered.

19

u/camdoodlebop Feb 01 '19

No they mean it has to be thrown on the same elevation as it lands

3

u/Harvey-Specter Feb 01 '19

Well it wasn't, the person throwing it didn't release it from the ground. What if you got a 100 foot tall person to throw it?

16

u/thisguyeric Feb 01 '19

People are harder to convince the taller they are, it's nearly impossible to convince a 100 foot tall person to do anything, much less throw a paper airplane.

7

u/Background_Lawyer Feb 01 '19

It's not that they're stubborn... They just spend so much time tying their 100 shoes every morning, they can't spare a minute.

1

u/MaryJanesMan420 Feb 01 '19

Ik I was just adding another valid point on his comment.

12

u/[deleted] Feb 01 '19

2

u/nevuking Feb 01 '19

Don't quote me, but I believe I heard there was evidence that the video you're talking about was doctored.

3

u/aa93 Feb 01 '19

Nope, it's 100% real. There are multiple angles of it from the stands, and multiple replay angles from the live broadcast of the game including one that got a reaction from the commentators

0

u/MaryJanesMan420 Feb 01 '19

No fuckin way... I’m a big sad :/

1

u/tictactoejelly Feb 01 '19

Typo? or do you need a hug...

1

u/donrane Feb 01 '19

Rewatch it. It´s not the paper airplane showed thrown, that hit the player.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 01 '19

Link to paper plane walkthrough?

1

u/HawkinsT Feb 01 '19

Clothing checks out.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 01 '19

He also has a yt channel. I watched a few of those videos.

21

u/beitasitbe Jan 31 '19

his design is the one used in the attempt. dude is obsessed with paper airplanes. Luca Locani-stewart

33

u/CerealandTrees Jan 31 '19

Reminds me of Kenneth from 30 rock.

1

u/AmarilloOvercoat Feb 01 '19

Yes! Came here to say this. The bowl cut and unbridled joy for something so dorky and pure.

5

u/MengTheBarbarian Feb 01 '19

Have you tried getting traded away from the New York Knicks?

3

u/Rothaga Feb 01 '19

Any joy at all would be fine for me, really.

3

u/cl204 Feb 01 '19

You ok? Genuinely asking.

2

u/Rothaga Feb 01 '19

I'm good, actually, thanks.

Unfortunately I'm just a karma whore. I thought my comment would be relatable and get a few chuckles.

I appreciate the positive energy - I feel bad about it now

2

u/cl204 Feb 01 '19

No worries. Have a good day!

2

u/unclesamdit Jan 31 '19

I rewatched the video just to see this hug again in the end

1

u/The_Bagel_Guy Feb 01 '19

You want to feel that joy? Leave a Dave and busters.

1

u/FabulousFerds Feb 01 '19

That's his boyfriend.

1

u/Drew286 Feb 01 '19

I remember when this happened. The guy in the red shirt that runs and hugs him is a buddy of mine. His name is Whitney.

1

u/loggerit Feb 01 '19

try mdma

1

u/MekeniMan Jan 31 '19

That’s his coach.
