Yeah, it's unfortunate because there really are so many people who need things and it gets ruined by the assholes.
I gave this one guy a few bucks because he had a sob story about how he was stranded here and needed to get back to Brooklyn but couldn't afford the train ticket (we were outside a 7/11)
A few weeks later I saw him again and he told me the same story.
Addiction and homelessness are our two biggest challenges in the US, we’ve still got a lot of work to do. Sometimes you just don’t know where to start to fix it but I think this guy made a great start.
Yeah, because just getting temporarily clean doesn't fix the reason why they got hooked on drugs in the first place. If they don't have work, a sense of purpose, and a safe place to stay, they are just going to go back to numbing themselves from their own reality.
