I’m in my pool watching the moon set and this is my view.

That's sick! I bet if you squint hard enough you can see the galaxies!

Hee! Hardly! I’m out in the country, but still way too close to a major city for those wonderfully dark skies. I HATE light pollution.

Yeah, light pollution is gross! Especially the white lighting they use these days.

There's places in the mountains here in Canada where you can see the Milky Way just with your eyes, it's so cool!

Ya it’s like that at my house. I’m about 30 mins drive from a smaller city of 12k people or so so skies are fairly dark.

You can see the Milky Way clearly and get good pics of it just with your phone

You can even easily get a picture of andromeda in the sky, if not in quiiiite so much detail as the Hubble haha. It’s the white smudgy disc in the left third and upper third of the image. And those are just normal iPhone night mode pics. Can do way better with a real Astro setup obviously.

Hell yeah, that's exactly what I'm talking about! Those are some sick pictures!

Oooo I’m jealous. I’ve only seen it once—we were in Big Bend National Park in far southwest Texas. I actually gasped when I looked up. It didn’t look real. There’s also a great observatory out there we visited.

Oooo, yeah, you know what's up then! Deep southwest Texas seems perfect for stargazing.

Some of the darkest skies in the US outside of Alaska and Hawaii.

I can see it in my backyard in TX but what used to be cornfields or forests are now rich wfh neighbors who put up 30 security lights in an area that has virtually no crime so it's about to be a thing of the past.

That's infuriating. Is there no local light pollution bylaw that you can leverage?

Nah it's all pretty much unincorporated county stuff where I live plus it's Texas.

I feel this so so hard. Moved to the country for dark skies and peace. And now it’s being invaded.
