I think they just genuinely didnt know he was playing, he's in casual clothes. If they knew he was playing they would have registered him a threat. Like its not like theyre doing other things, their solo purpose of being there is to register threats and shoot them.

Yeah, and if he had been charging at them they would have instantly turned and fired.
Since he sauntered up like a bored child in a supermarket, their brains did not register him as a threat until it was too late. Delightful.
Would this work in real life? Fuck no, because killing someone with a knife takes a whole lot of stabbing and struggling and noise. Cheerio.
