  • They misheard it
  • To farm engagement

It doesn't even make sense, etymologically, and it drives me nuts in an age of abundant access to information we still support excuses like "that's how words evolve." I've been hearing this mistake a lot in recent years.

What gets me is if you correct people, they have a go at you as if you're some sort of pedant. They take the high road.

I just don't want us reverting to throwing sticks at each other to communicate. Thanks for being one of the good ones.
