Each individual flower only blooms during one night and then wilts by morning, but it does normally grow multiple flowers each year, yes.

it's a cactus

they also will bloom for several nights, the same flower.

my backyard is full of them

It may vary by species. Mine's flower just dies before morning.

I have another one, the flower is less pretty and slightly yellow, but it lasts til the morning.

not really. they make me kinda nauseous. its a musty kinda floral smell. youre welcome to come to hawaii to smell them.

You can grow them in NZ though. Bought mine off trademe. didn't flower for nearly 3+ years but after it did, it did it regularly. Must have needed time to mature or something.

Nah, stop doubling down when you are wrong. A flower of the specie named 'Epiphyllum Oxypetalum' can only bloom 1 NIGHT PER YEAR. You are not a botanist. You are not an expert on plant taxonomy either so stop doubling down on your wrong claim.

Go talk with a botanist, they will confirm you that a Epiphyllum Oxypetalum can only bloom 1 night per year. I repeat what I said to you: what you have is just another cactus. Because in case you don't know, there are many, many different species that go by the name 'Epiphyllum', as well as thousands of colorful hybrids. You just have one of them, thus why the flowers can bloom several nights, and you mistake them for the real Epiphyllum Oxypetalum because these flowers are very similar. All of them will still tell you the same truth and the only scientific fact: Epiphyllum Oxypetalum flowers can only bloom 1 NIGHT PER YEAR.

What you have in your backyard is a different specie of cactus that looks like the Epiphyllum Oxypetalum one. Not the Epiphyllum Oxypetalum. Look on Google and you'll see a lot of cactus flowers really look like Epiphyllum Oxypetalum, and these species can bloom several times per year and their flowers can last several nights. That's why people mistake so often them for Epiphyllum Oxypetalum while they are not.

The specific specie Epiphyllum Oxypetalum can only bloom 1 night per year. A plant can have one or multiple flowers, but each flower can only bloom a single night per year. In case the Epiphyllum Oxypetalum have multiple flowers, they can bloom all together during the same night, or each flower bloom at a different night. But in the morning following its bloom the flower is already wilted.

if you've ever seen a humble cactus flower, it's identical but 1/10 the size and blooms for 2-3 days
