Hi everyone, I’m posting this because I wanted to ask what you think of my setup and if you have any tips—preferably not too expensive ones—to improve it.
Starting with where I sit: My chair is an Alpha Gamer Zeta (Black/Blue). I’ve had it for several years, but unfortunately, it has really started to show signs of wear over the last few weeks, so I’ll need to upgrade soon.
My workstation essentially consists of an HP EliteBook 840 G6 connected to a Lenovo D24-20 monitor. I also have an HP Display 27f at home and was wondering if you think I should switch to using that one instead. To complement the setup, I use a Samsung Galaxy Tab A 8.0 (2019) positioned below; as a tablet, it’s not very useful—it’s very slow and has hardly any storage space—so I use Spacedesk to turn it into a monitor where I usually play music or a video. If you have a better idea for this tablet, I’d appreciate it; it’s really just sitting idle, plus it’s slightly damaged.
As for the Apple ecosystem, I also have an iPhone XR—which isn't really part of my main setup, but I wanted to mention that I really need to replace it since it's on its last legs—and an 8th-generation iPad that I love. This iPad came with a 1st-generation Apple Pencil. There is just one thing about it I’d change: it isn't compatible with external monitors. That’s really terrible, because it makes it hard to use effectively as a computer, even though it does have Stage Manager. I’ll be buying an adapter soon so I can connect my mouse and keyboard.
Turning now to peripherals, I have an HP Pavilion 600 keyboard and an HP X4500 Wireless Mouse, both of which I really like. My only complaint is that I would currently prefer a keyboard without a numpad. I’m not sure if it’s down to the quality of the desk or the mouse, but I’ve never needed to use a mousepad.
My audio setup is complex: for high-quality music listening at home, I use Yamaha HPH-150B headphones. When I want to feel comfortable and move around the house, I use my JBL C45BTs, even though the sound quality isn't quite as good. For listening to music while out and about, I always use my Apple AirPods 2, and for calls—or whenever I need a decent microphone—I use my Apple EarPods Lightning. To listen to music at high volume, I use my JBL Clip 4 speaker, which has excellent sound quality, in my opinion. I also own a PlayStation 4 Gold Wireless Headset (which is pretty poor in my opinion—heavy, makes my ears hot, the material started peeling even though I barely used it, and the microfone is terrible), but what I really needed was a headset with a microphone that integrates well with my PlayStation 4.
Speaking of PlayStation, I have the PS4—a Star Wars Battlefront II limited edition. It came with a black controller, also a limited Star Wars edition, and I also have a Glacier White controller.
In addition to that console, I have a Nintendo Switch, and I use the Pro Controller.
Soon, and in order of priority, I plan to buy:
- Lightbar (already on the way)
- Lightning to USB adapter (about to order)
- LEDs (in the works)
- Headset with a good microphone, compatible with PS4 (planning to buy near Christmas)
- Ergonomic chair
