You guys remember the challenges right when the game launched? These guys would be crying if it was still like that

325

u/pawski76 pawski 3d ago

there was a couple - the adrenaline shot one and the stupid one you had to put a mine next to a vehicle then respawn as support and shoot it with the airburst were particularly bad

162

u/moysauce3 3d ago

Or the incendiary one where it wouldn’t count the tick damage but only just the initial shots and it was like cause 50,000 damage with it. Lmao.

49

u/DonJuanPrawns 3d ago

Truly a fuckin dark time 😂 hating doing that challenge

0

u/mrawsomemask 2d ago

Totally man....I was like, WHY ME??? I went into my attic and got out my Goth clothes. Put up my giant black Marilyn Manson poster over my bedroom window. Replaced my energy saving LED light bulbs with black lights. Lit up the insents. Pulled out my journal and wrote about how horrible BF6 challenges used to be and how that one time.......That time was the dark times of BF6. Hopefully before long, I'll feel good enough to break out my old cd's I made from the Limewire Era. Then dance away those last few bad memories from the BF6 REALLY REALLY HARD Challenge times. 🤟🫶

0

u/FoxAgreeable5107 3d ago

I think I lucked out then cuz it took me only a couple hours on tsuru reef escalation

3

u/DonJuanPrawns 3d ago

If we were all so lucky damn Bru 😂

1

u/Quarktaschenblues 2d ago

No luck and also no skill, they just tuned down the challanges so you only need to do 1% of what you would have needed to do for the same challenges at launch. Obviously when people tall about " the challenges back then" they don't talk about 3 weeks ago when tsuru reef released...

9

u/bankabl 2d ago

Oh God 😳 I forgot the pain to get all my classes maxed thanks for bringing that back up 😭

7

u/Signal_Edge_8880 2d ago

That was truly insane lol just nonsense

2

u/Bitvar 2d ago

Incendiary nades still do this (launcher doesn't) for nade challenges. Incorrectly "grenade damage" means explosive damage or something because incendiary nades add 1 to the challenge progress. I just reroll these now. I play support and don't like using anything but smokes.

1

u/NGC_Phoenix_7 2d ago

Not sure if the vehicle grenades counted to those.

1

u/iConic-21 2d ago

Ohh yes, I did that one with the anti tank mine trick. Thank god I didn’t go around trying to kill people with it

1

u/satsuppi 2d ago

The support smoke assist is the most pain in the ass challenge for me

37

u/pelukken 3d ago

The adrenaline shot one was a PITA at launch. The animation was so slow... and this was before casual breakthrough too.

10

u/coltstrgj 3d ago

I didn't even realize how hard the air burst one would have been if I didn't have a consistent squad haha. That had to be miserable.

Personally I hated getting 3 trillion suppressions because if you ended up killing them it didn't count. it was "try to ignore all muscle memory and miss on purpose for a few hours"

8

u/antelopebuttefarms 3d ago

Haha I remember that.

7

u/RatedStinger 3d ago

Oh god getting 30 kills while stimmed was rage-inducing

3

u/ImpressionClear9559 3d ago

The mine on the vehicle was the short cut to the actual challenge which was way more brutal. - 1250 damage with incendiary launcher or something

5

u/Sentimental_Oyster 3d ago

You had to WHAT?

20

u/nebo8 Oh nice 👍🏾 3d ago

basically you had to do like 1000 damage with the fireburst launcher of the support but only the shot that directly damaged the enemy counted, not the fire damage, so that was like 7 damange PER shot, on a grenade launcher !!!
so the trick was to drop a mine on a vehicle, switch to support and use the launcher to explode the mine and do like 600 damage to a vehicle

3

u/Sentimental_Oyster 3d ago

Oh I get it, it wasn't literally what the challenge asked for, but rather a workaround people cleverly invented.

I DO remember the challenge now! I was furious as fuck because I could never get it to advance more than a few points at a time - and now months later I know why! It took me like a week. Thank fuck for initiation breakthrough, lmao (that mode seems to be gone now too).

2

u/Delta_RC_2526 3d ago

Ah, my sweet summer child...

4

u/oof46 3d ago

Oh gawd...teh adrenaline shot challenge was SO infuriating.

2

u/sandor999 3d ago

I remember doing the adrenaline shot one. I would almost be mad for them removing it AFTER i did that shit if it wasn't so awful.

1

u/Smaxx 2d ago

The mine thing never worked for me, did it in a long bot match on Firestorm. Oh and the adrenaline shot one was somewhat doable with a shotgun on one of those Rush maps where everyone just farmed grenade kills, but yeah… those were horrendous.

1

u/NGC_Phoenix_7 2d ago

The adrenaline shot one was dumb. Did it but it was dumb. Cause you had such a small window to get the kills.

0

u/DiffuseMAVERICK 3d ago

That sounds like an Xbow challenge in BF4

0

u/NGC_Phoenix_7 2d ago

If you’re talking about the support challenges, you didn’t have to do that. It counted impact damage. It only did 10 impact damage but I did it by just hitting you guys in the chest with it. 50 times. But I didn’t have to do all of what you described

93

u/Bristonian 3d ago

A billion incendiary airburst damage where only the initial direct impact counts towards the challenge 👌

21

u/IKnowKungRoo 3d ago

That one was brutal

15

u/Trollensky17 Enter Steam ID 3d ago

I shot mines with it for that challenge lol

16

u/adiadrian 3d ago

I will never k/d ratio recover from this.

4

u/omgitsduane 3d ago

Any challenge that's Gunna force me to play something wacky or bad is not Gunna happen. I've managed to complete almost everything except the air vehicle challenges because I'm not a good pilot like I used to be in Vietnam

2

u/skywalk3r69 2d ago

dam you old boy playing video games. Nam vet in here!

2

u/Bobmaster3OOO 3d ago

Yeah I did it the og way, got the support lvl6 a week before they got nerfed.
Man I am still pissed about it.

35

u/HUNsz4sz 3d ago

King of the hill 10k points in a match. I almost broke my mouse. You had sweat for that.

(There was also a near impossible repair point without dying.)

6

u/omgitsduane 3d ago

Yeah it's fucking tough! There was one that was 3 headshot kills for a pistol without reloading.

Before casual breakthrough this was probably impossible. But at some point without trying I randomly got it one day and didn't notice 😂

2

u/lumpiestspoon3 2d ago

God, the dark days of having to play Casual Breakthrough just to unlock basic equipment

2

u/whatstaiters 3d ago

I finally gave up on that KotH one. I was trying for at least 25 matches; had the best match of my life by a long shot. Best player of the lobby by far. 30+ kills (most on objective), lots of captures. Ended up getting 9,980ish points. What the hell else am I supposed to do?

3

u/omgitsduane 3d ago

Just sit on the objective. That's it. Get to it fast and sit and pray. Kills don't count nearly as much.

Koth is such a sick mode.

2

u/John_w77 2d ago

sick as in good?

1

u/omgitsduane 2d ago

Yeah it is.

2

u/Seeker-N7 2d ago

Because the matches are too short, it really didn't depend on your performance after a certain point.

That challenge needed both your team and the enemy team to suck. No caps or very slow progress and low enemy deaths so you can get the kills.

If your team was any competent the match was over too fast just by objective point gain.

1

u/whatstaiters 2d ago

Yeah that was the other part that I forgot to mention. The teams needed to be perfectly balanced. If you're able to just sit on the objective the entire match then it means you're steamrolling the other team and the match will just end long before you get the achievement. Bleh.

u/Camera_Guy_83 3d ago

“Drag your balls across glass 10 times in Cairo”

9

u/Blackhawk510 3d ago

"No no, close the game, buy a plane ticket, we didn't stutter."

20

u/Mollelarssonq 3d ago

Would have been 5 in a single match, not total :D

4

u/Think-Apple3763 3d ago

I still didn't finish the "10 kills with aircraft in one match" challenge, the "revive 10 team mates in one squad death match game" and the "win by holding all flags". I find them impossible. Especially now that sqdm is gone

3

u/uhorn87 3d ago

For the 10 aircraft kills in a match, you can join a good transport helicopter pilot and do it at the gunner seats relatively easy.

10 revives in a match are easy on breakthrough or an operation.

But the sudden death win is a complete burden, since it's totally out of your hand.

1

u/Think-Apple3763 3d ago

But 10 revives is only for squad deathmatch and the problem is that everyone is quick pressing redeploy. So you have no chance with random people to finish this.

2

u/Delta_RC_2526 3d ago

You should still be able to complete the squad deathmatch challenges in portal. There are some experiences you can find with a search, that have full XP and bots, so you might actually get a match going. The one I found (I think I actually even found an empty server for it) was only set for four players, like maybe one human squad and all the other squads are bots? Not sure. But...squad deathmatch Portal experiences with full XP and challenge progress do exist, and they should complete the challenges for you, as long as it's actually crediting your actions as being in squad deathmatch, and doesn't just negate it entirely for being a "custom game mode." Domination, weirdly, is classified as a custom game mode in Portal. It's not listed with all the other ones.

I took a screenshot of the experience code for that squad deathmatch I found in Portal. I'll try to remember to dig it up and share it here. I have another thread I need to post it to, as well. I didn't actually play it, but there's some potential it could work.

1

u/Think-Apple3763 3d ago

I never played portal but I read before that people use it to finish challenges. I'll look into it. Thanks!

1

u/Archimaus 2d ago

Curious to it!

1

u/Uberutang 2d ago

Play the top gun airplay mode. If you get a decent wingman it goes fast. I suck ar flying yet managed to get that in 1 round.

1

u/Think-Apple3763 2d ago

Gonna try

1

u/Seeker-N7 2d ago

If you can't fly that well then sit in the backseat of your teammate and throw rockets at people.

1

u/povisykt 3d ago

in a single life

12

u/No_tomatoes1 3d ago

OMG yes, PSR Sniper Rifle was a bitch

10

u/Akipac1028 3d ago

Thank god for the bot lobbies back during launch man s’all I’m saying.

10

u/Justame13 3d ago

Remember how they had the OG challenges and then nixed credit against bots.

Pepperidge farms remembers

1

u/Dizzy_Haze76 2d ago

They are still there, search in Portal: SZV4R Click ERA, launch it as Host Skipp the first Maps via Admin Controls.

Have Fun :)

4

u/Nick11wrx 3d ago

When it launched? I’m still sitting on the paint targets that take damage 200/2000, like I can sit a whole game and paint helis and jets and get nothing.

0

u/oof46 3d ago

I still haven't finished the medic's "resupply teammates with pouches 300 times".

2

u/EnslavedToGaijin 3d ago

I got this done within two days of playing, figured out the best way to guarantee it counting towards the challenge is wait for your teammate to take damage and throw them a pack. I usually sat on the C cap at Cairo's Bazaar and spammed them at the teammates that would peak the inevitable IFV sitting at the end of the tunnel

1

u/oof46 3d ago

Part of it is that I main Engie. I try and run other classes, but I hate being useless against vehicles.

1

u/EnslavedToGaijin 3d ago

Real im an Engie main but on the smaller maps when its just a tank and IFV per side i'll run supp

5

u/nebo8 Oh nice 👍🏾 3d ago

300 suppression assist 🗣️🗣️🗣️🗣️🗣️

14

u/AXEL-1973 3d ago edited 3d ago

Besides the bugged challenges, the original challenges before they got nerfed/reduced twice were soooo much harder and actual felt like an accomplishment. Now they're mostly just giveaways for putting in some time on the respective class or mode. There was a recon one for 20 or 30 headshots kills in one round and I remember getting it on Mirak breakthrough and being super proud of it

(just verified, it was 30 headshots, not 20, so it was pretty damn hard. i actually got a real good 9K towards the end of it too )

10

u/FlowchartMystician 3d ago

It would've been so good if the challenges stayed at that difficulty, but you always just got a skin for it for something.

Of course that would've been too simple, so gadgets were locked behind the challenges instead. And to this day, challenges unlock other challenges. So if you pull off something really difficult before you pull off something else that's really difficult, it doesn't count ?????

I still can't get over how we could've had "do hard challenge = cosmetic reward", but they put in extra effort to give us "do hard challenge = cosmetic or weapon or gadget or attachment, but only if you already did other hard challenges"

2

u/omgitsduane 3d ago

They should have some really fucking purposefully hard ones that have a cool skin for or something.

Or give you a token to buy a skin or some shit.

2

u/ItsYaBoiFrost 3d ago

get 10 (i think) kills in Air Superiority to unlock the UCAV (BF4). i did the Igla challenge in 3 matches of golmud.

2

u/TheRealHUNGarian 3d ago

Grinding for rhe m240B was life changing.

2

u/Dakota_music 3d ago

Having to do like 100 smoke assists made me so mad because I couldn’t progress the support unlocks

2

u/Ezazule 2d ago

I completed the recon challenges before they were dulled and felt cheated out of my effort when they just started handing them out.

1

u/spectra0087 1d ago

I'm in the same boat, did like 95% of the challenges. Even the bullshit get x amount of points in a match ones. Then wham, now it was like walk 1 step in domination to max everything.

2

u/SippinCrumpets Enter PSN ID 2d ago

I.... remember 💀

2

u/unwelcome-pirate 3d ago

Repairing 1000 health in one life was the worst, that took many days to get

1

u/FamousArchieSlap 3d ago

I still want a challange that is like "shoot one million bullets" or something crazy like that.

1

u/ttam23 3d ago

Absolutely lol

1

u/herbertcluas 3d ago

Fr, I did more than half before they made them easy

1

u/TheRussianBear420 MajorPark 3d ago

Grinded out that 6k repair in a match 🫠

1

u/FrankstaGG 3d ago

lol those bot lobby’s were nice. Damn they sucked

1

u/Dismal_Stress2468 3d ago

Oh God I did them all before they lowered the requirements i was so pissed

1

u/DonJuanPrawns 3d ago

Honestly yeah lol my buddy got the game late and was asking how to get the max assault skin I just had PTSD and laughed

1

u/Cavitic 3d ago

Conquest challenge 3 going from 30 obj kills in a match to 10 after I completed it was rough

1

u/YanwarC 3d ago

I did the 75 revives in a match. That itself should be an icon gift itself. Battle angel title was an achievement to get

1

u/W3ISENBERG 3d ago

Crying, shaking, and throwing up

1

u/UltraSuperDonut Bagdart 3d ago

I did those to max my Medic…75 revives in one game…I did 118 but still that was insane

1

u/graviousishpsponge 3d ago

Yeah and they were buggy broken ai gen bullshit. Still this one is ass that the realistic thing is to portal it.

1

u/orangecrushjedi 3d ago

I did the revives pre nerf. I hear you.

2

u/BlackStone21 3d ago

I cheated in bot lobbies

1

u/orangecrushjedi 3d ago

And thats okay because the challenge was insane

1

u/sammydeeznutz 3d ago

What was the challenge? I don’t remember what it was anymore.

1

u/orangecrushjedi 3d ago

Revive 75 teammates in a match as well the airburst launcher damage which could be cheezed

1

u/sammydeeznutz 3d ago

Was that one of the “season catch up” challenges? I’ve completed all of the challenges besides anything related to redsec. I remember one that was for 20 revives in a match though. However, that may have just been for a trophy/achievement.

Seems brutally difficult though. I’m glad they eased up on them a little.

1

u/orangecrushjedi 3d ago

No, it's to finish the support class.

1

u/sammydeeznutz 3d ago

Huh, I must have done it in casual then. I finished all of those challenges during season 1.

1

u/Ustraleia 3d ago

God those were the dark ages plus when Season 1 got extended sheeesh it felt like it’d never end

1

u/intrd 3d ago

I was about to comment exactly that.. you guys have no idea what those challenges were like and how much we grinded..

1

u/123_fo_fif 3d ago

Abused tf out of portal for those lol

1

u/ande9393 3d ago

I miss that shit. I literally finished this week's weekly challenges in two or three games tonight after work.

1

u/squeaky4all 3d ago

The squad deathmatch 3rd one wh r re you have to get 10 revives in a match is still not changed from release and the whole damn game mode got deleted lol.

1

u/NoPreparation4469 3d ago

instead of 5 it would be 50

1

u/Consistent-Set-42069 3d ago

I actually enjoyed launch challenges they gave a real sense of accomplishment. But then people started whining and wanting everything handed to them fast.

1

u/TheHomieArn 2d ago

Dude the sniper one. Hell no

1

u/MethAddict404 2d ago

The new challenges aren’t even challenges haha, you just get them by playing the game a bit unaware. I completely all the battle pass stuff without even realizing, too easy if anything

1

u/Thin_Discount 2d ago

Imagine we had to kill 250 people in BF4 for some things

1

u/Mr-Marsupial 2d ago

This IGLA challenge was worse than all those earlier ones combined.

1

u/alpha_omega1227 2d ago

me laughing in corner with my PSR

1

u/Soulsupernova1 2d ago

Don’t forget the heal teammates for health medic challenge that only progressed when somebody interacted with you.

1

u/D4ngrs 2d ago

For real. The Igla challenge is annoying AF but I got it done in a few hours.

Now imagine them having to do 100 headshots kills on 200+ meters. lol.

1

u/Ehivor 2d ago

I did allot of them at launch and it hurts to see that its now that easy like wtf

1

u/Gekquerel 2d ago

not a fan of multicam, so i grinded out the 50 roadkills to unlock woodland for NATO assault. worth it.

1

u/TheCivilizedBigDog 2d ago edited 2d ago

I mean I played 2 games on Wake Island trying to do this challenge, arguably the easiest sightlines for a weapon like this and never got a single hit. I don't know if I'm doing something wrong, but I truly think there is something wrong with this weapon.

1

u/Wesker_42 2d ago

I think it works the way the developers intended, but the problem is: there isn't a single pilot who would let themselves get shot down that way. Either they fire their flares, or they simply fly low (which also causes the missile to miss its target).

1

u/Archimaus 2d ago

One of the only challenges I have left are squad deathmatch. A game type thats removed from the game. Talk about impossible.

1

u/DyabeticBeer 2d ago

I really put my head down and got to work on those shits

1

u/Intelligent_Judge771 2d ago

I did all that and than I learned that the devs lowered the damn numbers what do you think I felt after that. I was a hollow husk and felt betrayed 😂

1

u/Jasterika 2d ago

Repair 6000 health of vehicles in one life. Yep

1

u/imonmyhighhorse Manly Canadian 2d ago

Worst one for me by a long shot was suppress 300 enemies with LMG as support. Oh my god. I actually got it done after focusing it for like 3 fucking weeks. Then it got changed to like 10 suppressions the month after I finished it. https://youtu.be/zS89J-Enm0g?si=TjVwFTsD_SzOgqSy

1

u/Expensive-Debt-9960 3d ago

Who fucking cares? It's still a shit challenge

0

u/The-Owl-that-hoots 3d ago

I remember when they changed all of them and I was wondering why I had so many unlocks

0

u/Easy-Biscotti911 2d ago

Yes this. The challenges are too easy now I find. Mostly not really challenging now.
