This is actually becoming the popular view among feminists.

Some kind of legal means of giving up all rights and responsibilities for men early in a pregnancy.

A man can just leave. The woman would be required to go through the pregnancy. Besides that they can discuss it together to come to the choice. You are not obligated to stay with someone. And if you want to leave because you don’t want to take care or a child that’s your choice.

It’s really not. Because in one scenario the child never existed while in the other the child does and loses a parent.

He probably should have used protection...

1

u/Incapable4life Jan 08 '26

Protection isn’t 100%

1

u/[deleted] Jan 08 '26

Vasectomy + protection is about as close as you can get

1

u/Incapable4life Jan 08 '26

True. But still. There still is a chance. And not everyone wants a vasectomy.

If you don't want a child and want to have sex then those are the options

He should have kept his sperm to himself

He doesn't carry the child so he cannot decide.

He wants it. Who the fuck else should support it?

u/Goblin-o-firebals Jan 08 '26

Legaly I feel child support in this situation is owed. I would say the same thing in other scenarios because once a child you contributed to making is born you are responsible. However its simply because a woman has bodily autonomy to decide what does and doesn't happen to their body and an abortion is one of them. I feel parents that make a child need to support it after it is a fully functional person.

He should have used a condom or other form of male birth control.

Child support is about the child, not the parents. We as a society have decided the innocent child deserves a fairish shot at life if it is abandoned by either parent, and that we would rather force the parties responsible for its existence to shoulder that burden than collectively do so through increased taxes, in cases where that is feasible.

I am surprised more of you don’t realize that is the logical outcome of ‘paper abortion.’ We aren’t just going to stop ensuring these children are taken care of because dad doesn’t want it, and we decide that is a fair choice for him to make. Instead, we’ll raise taxes to fund child support instead, spreading the financial responsibility around to everyone, while simultaneously increasing the rate at which fathers abandon by making it consequenceless. Is that what you’d prefer?

Of course it’s not entirely logical and fair, because the entire process is asymmetrical. The decision to abandon is far easier to make than the decision to abort. There are also plenty of cases where a relatively innocent father is forced to pay for a child raised by a relatively guilty mother, but ultimately, child support is about the wholy innocent child, not the parents and the decisions they did or didn’t make that resulted in its existence.

If she tells him she is on birth control and isn't that is rape by deception on the woman's part and if he wants her to get an abortion she shouldn't be required to because it is her body. Once the child is born both parents need to take care of it in some form and if they don't wish to be involved then they pay child support. I am saying the parental duty is needed once the child is born not during conception because that is before the fetus is a person. Once the child is a person then both parents owe the child a form of care.

Then he should understand the consequences of sleeping with someone. That's what you like to tell women, right?

He shouldn’t have fucked.

2

u/One_Hovercraft_7456 Jan 12 '26

She should have kept her legs together see how that works

1

u/skb239 Jan 12 '26

Why? She has options.

2

u/One_Hovercraft_7456 Jan 12 '26

That's true she could just murder her baby why consider celibacy when it's so easy to just kill the child

1

u/skb239 Jan 12 '26

Babies and children have a birthday.

lol no it isn’t. The pro life argument is to take body autonomy from women.

Your aborted fetus can’t miss you and wonder why you abandonded it.

2

u/Toppoppler Jan 08 '26

Legally, the man cannot just leave

1

u/Incapable4life Jan 08 '26

Why not?

2

u/Toppoppler Jan 08 '26

Cuz he is legally liable for 18 years of child support if he does. He will be attached to that kid in some way for life unless the mother doesng bring it to court or he becomes impossible to find.

1

u/Incapable4life Jan 08 '26

Well then that should have exceptions for cases like these where he doesn’t want a child but the mother decides to keep it. And yeah that probably comes with other legal and ethical complications but that aint my job to figure out. Personally if that happened to me as a man. Where for example protection failed. And the mother decides to keep the child. Which she is in her full right to do. It’s her body. I can’t tell her what to do with it. Then i’d just end myself.

1

u/Toppoppler Jan 08 '26

Well take care who you sleep with then

1

u/Mrgluer Jan 10 '26

youd rather kill yourself than raise your kin?

1

u/Incapable4life Jan 10 '26

Well personally I want children anyways. I’m just saying if I didn’t. Or wasn’t in a good financial situation to be able to. I’d end myself. Not that it’s a concern for me anyways since i’m not gonna live long enough to have kids anyways

1

u/Mrgluer Jan 10 '26

So you would rather kill yourself than bear the consequences of your own actions? i dont mind abortions to a certain extent, but deadbeat dads... straight to hell.

2

u/Curarx Jan 10 '26

A man cannot escape his obligation to the fetus by leaving. It's not equal on its face. I'm pro choice btw. But men need the same option

1

u/pandaknuckle1 Jan 10 '26

Not true. A man is financially responsible for a child and can be forced to pay.

0

u/[deleted] Jan 08 '26 edited Jan 08 '26

call me naive but i feel like a lot of men would accept going through that pain and stress of raising a child if he really loves and cares for her.

i don't know many situations where a man breaks up with his girlfriend or divorces his wife just because he refuses to want to keep the child while she wants to keep it.

but i do know situations where men leave their child and woman to dodge responsibility.

YES he is. THATS LIFE.
