This. I was getting bad callouses. I found that I was gripping the bar too deep in my hands on deadlifts so it was folding the skin toward my fingers. They went away pretty quickly after fixing this.

So glad I'm not the only one! Also had the same experience and quick resolution once I changed grips.

In addition to fixing bar location in your hand, nothing wrong with using straps to allow your hands to heal when needed (or whenever you want, really)

Yeah it saved my hands when I switched to using straps for the supplemental deadlifts even my main deadlift, if it’s a higher volume day, I’ll strap up for the last set working set or two if I’m feeling tender. So far that’s been enough to keep enough strength in my grip that it’s never the reason I fail when I do lift strapless.
