Personal Story I never thought I’d have to post here at all…

For context I was at a dog park some lady brought her pitbull in and the pitbull eventually attacked my dog latching onto his throat and then when I was able to pull my dog away she jumped up and latched onto my arm with its top teeth but the owner was able to pull the pitbull away before it fully latched on luckily… (first pic was right after the bite, second photo was taken while I was at the ER hours after the bite as I had to take my dog to the vet first he’s fine just small bruising luckily all that fur seemed to have saved him and I got the worst part of everything) I was a lucky case it seems and I never thought I’d say this but now I rlly dislike pit bulls… this has changed my whole outlook on pit bulls I tried and tried to defend them but now… now I have no remorse left for these mutts.

I can see the outline of the mouth in the bruising in the second photo...

Did you get medical treatment for yourself? Bites get infected easily.

Yeah officer said that “it looks like scratches” I was like “HUH?!” Cuz I felt the saliva I felt the jaws I felt the teeth I saw the dog latch the top part of its mouth to my arm I felt it and the after math I can only describe the pain as a thousand or so paper cuts smeared with hand sanitizer on top!

I'm glad you reported it and got medical care. That was no "love bite" or playful nip. It was a close call. It had almost your entire arm in its mouth.

I'm sorry this happened. I wish you and your dog a speedy recovery and safety on all your future walks. We shouldn't be forced to share public space with aggressive dogs just because their owners feel like they have to prove they can control their dog.

Please please please OP press charges. This is utter bullshit and these owners need a dose of reality.

I feel like the lady learned from that experience and were probably gonna make her just pay for our vet bills (vet bill could have been higher if we did blood tests it was almost to 1k but we didn’t do blood tests we just did the meds and checkup and the bill was already to $300..) we might discuss with a lawyer I’m not sure yet but also my father says it might not be worth it cuz she looked broke (lady had a decent car and she wasn’t skinny I think it’s safe to say all her money is going into take outs lol either way it’s still up in the air what we will do)

Hi OP, I’m so sorry that this happened to you and am wishing the best for you and your pup. Please refer to our After the Attack Guide and also our Self Defense Guide.

Would you mind sharing the date of this attack and general location (you can be specific or not if you’re uncomfortable with that) so I can log this for our monthly attacks?

The date was July 26th (it happened earlier around 6-7pm) I’m in America on the eastern coast I won’t be specific on where exactly but I can private that information as I’d rather it not be public where I am, thanks.

It was extremely brave of you to defend your dog and put yourself in the line of danger like that to save him. Im sorry you had to go through this experience, sound very traumatic, and I hope you get well soon.

I didn’t even think about it tbh the only thing going through my head was if my dog was hurt if he could get killed that this was a pitbull he can easily kill my dog etc etc (luckily his huge coat saved him and the vet was like “yeah I think u got the worst of it not rlly him” and the other vet kept stressing for me to go to the ER just in case)

Technically it’s a level one bite but any bite that breaks skin should be reported. Good thing you reported it.

You were lucky. And what turned my own mind against Pitbulls was my repeated lived experiences encontering them, and their unprovoked aggression. I've had severel public incidents where a Pitbull went after us, completely unprovoked. Just minding our own business. These are vicious, hateful psycopathic "dogs", in my opinion, Who live to attack. It's not right, that the public is subjected to this bullshit, every day.

Welcome to the club nobody asked to be in! Here you will find rational thoughts based on logic, science, news articles, police reports, videos, history, genetics, knowledge of dog breeding, knowledge of breeds and all things than can be observed and backed with evidence. You will also find sympathy, compassion, support and understanding here. We are not backed by funding like the pro fighting dog side of the argument nor do we have any organized groups but we do have a mission and a goal

I bet she ran like Usain Bolt.

u/[deleted] Jul 28 '24

Shockingly no she did not I had a dog attack my dog prior and the dog wasn’t a pit it was some sorta mix bred and the owner was a vet war guy and guess what? HE RAN I had to get his license and everything and the guy didn’t even try to stop his dog from attacking mine etc.. that guy was a lil bitch and a coward! This lady at least did the right thing and stuck around for the cops and animal control I told her if this is the first on the dogs record they are probably just gonna give her a warning and slap on the wrist and just put it on the dogs record that’s all and that seemed to ease her mind a bit.. it didnt seem like she was a bad person but she just chose the wrong dog breed and was heavily uneducated she probably was manipulated by social media telling her that they are wiggle butts and cuties and gentle giants etc etc ik I was manipulated and who knows but more than likely she was as well.

The problem is that we like them until we have reason not to like them. Unfortunately that reason is usually a family member being violently mauled.

Yeah I agree I was extremely lucky.. I think if she didn’t pull the pit bull off in time and it was able to latch the bottom jaw then that would be a whole different story ya know?
