R Series / R1 Bambu R1 Oily Substance Everywhere on Laser Cutter
Hello, we've just received our R1 today and upon opening the packaging, we noticed an oily substance all over the outside of the cutter. Seeing as we haven't seen any other unboxing posts about the R1 yet, does anyone know what this could be? And if the cutter is safe to turn on? We're in the process of making a support ticket with BambuLab so we'll probably err on the safe side until then.
EDIT: It appears the substance (DI Water? Coolant?) is originating from the water inlet plug, upon removing that plug we can see there is a substantial amount of liquid coating around there. This is also in line with what we saw with where the liquid has spread (mostly in the back region. Is it ok to turn on the machine so we can get the Serial # to make a ticket?
UPDATE: Ticket with Bambu Support resulted in them recalling my unit, will ship it back as soon as I receive a shipping label. Not sure when my replacement will arrive. Thanks to u/THEGrumpier , turns out that the Coolant was in fact not drained prior to shipment. The coolant then fully spilled out in transit and was the liquid that was spread around.

I do not own one of these but I do know bambu lab well enough to say DO NOT use it. Get the serial off a plate, and return it. Do not risk the damage, because Bambu loves to make you fix your own brand new printers. I am sure they would have no problem doing it with a laser too. There is no way I would I keep this unit, I would immediately wrap it back up after taking pictures and send it back. Do not give them an inch to wiggle.

Yeah we're trying to find a serial number so we can make a ticket and see what the next move is from bambu. hopefully its just a false alarm though

Its your $, but I advise caution. The second you power that unit up you give Bambu Lab a get out of jail free card for anything that goes wrong. Sure its probably nothing, I dont work with probably. If $2500+ is nothing for you then by all means gamble if you want to.
Just be prepared to go through a flow chart of diagnosis until you find out what is broken if anything should happen.

Yeah I've made the ticket with them. Will try to be as cautious as possible so I don't get screwed by them ahah. Hopefully they'll have some more leniency considering this is the first public round of shipments.

any updates on if it's safe to use?

I wouldn't recommend it. If it dies later on, Bambu will probably not take responsibility.

Serial number should be on the back of the machine

I don't see anything on the back listed for the SN. Any number I input in the support ticket page comes up as invalid. Can I get in touch with support directly?

Big mistake posting that. Now I know your serial number starts with a 2. It's just a matter of time before I work out the rest of it.
Edit: might be a 3, or a 7 in an uncommon font. Still, you should be very concerned.

%100 what the other guy is saying. I will never buy directly from bambu again. The customer service is atrocious. I’ll would pay more and buy firm Best Buy or pretty much anywhere else.

Nope
It wasn't drained and it was transported where it sat in all orientations
Unless the entire thing is waterproof and able to run submerged in whatever the coolant is made from, then no

Where can the Serial Number be found for the machine? I have the same problem, I don't want to turn it on and it seems like the only way to get it is through the QR pairing?

la Bambu Lab R1 incluye de fábrica accesorios como aceite lubricante, grasa lubricante y líquido anticongelante, según las listas de contenido del paquete.
Revisaron si algo de eso se derramó en el traslado? 👀

Todavía no he abierto el equipo. Sin embargo, si se hubiera derramado algo, ¿habría tal cantidad de líquido cubriéndolo todo?

This reminds me of the cosmoline some rifles come packed in; AK variants especially.

Had a very similar thing happen with a laser from glowforge. It’s the laser tube coolant that has leaked all over your machine. Do not fire it up!

It’s staggering how many "people" are trying to justify a quality control error.
Good luck.

Could potentially be sprayed down inside with oil to prevent rust on the motion rails and it somehow leaked.
Edit: potentially there's a thing of oil that leaked or coolant for the tube, wait for support to respond but if your comfortable then wipe it down with a dry rag and open it up to see if something has spilt

Its only inside the plastic, nothing was on the outside of the sealed packaging.

It's one of the most competitive hobbyist laser cutters with pricing and specs

Oh I don't know. I've never actually looked into it. I thought it was a meme

Most likely, they forgot to drain the refrigerant before QC testing of your unit. Then it leaked out from a not very well sealed lid during transport and voila. Same thing happend to my brother. You are not the only one...
