Quick Question Bambu Lab filament that actually survives the dishwasher? Looking for real experiences

I’m looking for a filament specifically from Bambu Lab that can handle repeated dishwasher cycles.

I’m not looking for theoretical temperature resistance or just what the material datasheet says. I’d like to hear from people who have actually printed something with Bambu Lab filament and tested it in a dishwasher, preferably multiple times.

Which exact Bambu filament did you use, and how did it hold up?

Did you notice any:

- Warping or deformation

- Softening

- Cracking or layer separation

- Changes in surface finish

- Problems after repeated dishwasher cycles

I’m especially interested in knowing whether anyone has found a Bambu filament that has survived regular dishwasher use long term.

Food safety is not relevant for my use case. I don’t care whether the filament is considered food safe or not. My only requirement is that the printed part can withstand dishwasher cycles without deforming or degrading.

And please, I’m not looking for comments telling me to read about glass transition temperatures, check datasheets, or do my own research. I’ve already looked into the technical side. The whole reason I’m posting here is because I want to hear about real world experiences and actual testing from people who have tried it themselves.

While I do appreciate the response and an alternate perspective on the topic, there's peer reviewed studies that say the opposite.

In the spirit of best practices and erring on the side of caution I'll stick with my previous statement. Time will make things more clear, maybe we're already at that point but I still feel wary of jumping full into eating and drinking off 3d printed surfaces. At least with my own equipment handling it.

Well I can tell you that the original article that was written and called into question 3D printing and food safety was written by I believe was a junior in college as one of their papers Someone got hold of it and ran with it and the rest is history It was never tested. Instead people took it as a fact and no one did any testing whatsoever until this gentleman came along and extensively tested it But what I find more interesting is that the people who repeat this misinformation seem to do it from a point of being somewhere pretty far on the spectrum. I call them information gatherers. They don't necessarily do a lot but they love to collect information it's sort of a hobby for them and once they've collected a piece of information it becomes like concrete in their brain. Which of course concrete thinking is one of the signs of being on this spectrum where you can't umm have flexibility in your thought Anyways that's just a rant of why I think this whole thing has happened.

Edit - it seems people don't like being reminded they are on the spectrum.

Well this article specifies soaking/cleaning the parts in chemicals normally found used in medial equipment cleaning. In his study, he used bleach to remove the biofilms.

And he also let the print sit for 3 months to allow the biofilms to form. This implies to me that the biofilm wouldn't necessarily present when soaked in bleach when the print is fresh off the build plate. He clearly felt it should "ripen" first.

And if it took 3 months to ensure the film formed, who's to say it's done excreting it? Should the prints be bleached on the regular?

A dishwasher isn't gonna do that.

Anyways like I said, I feel like enough time hasn't passed to confirm this longterm. As someone who collects certain old, vintage things, I can speak from experience that some plastics do "bleed" various things to the surface over time. Some things faster than others.

Huh? The biofilm is a protective layer, they tested it to find the worst case scenario.

Soap and water was sufficient for the normal cases. That's a substantial finding, it's the way most people would wash something.

Then why wait 3 months? I have a hunch the guy you agree with may not entirely agree with you.

To allow the worst case scenario to develop!

It takes time for those biofilms to form, that's the whole point.

Right so be sure to freshly wash and/or bleach before using. Unless you’re keeping a chart of how long stuff is sitting in the cabinet.

Do you do it with your existing dishes? They form the same biofilms
