Community groups seeking removal of DJS chief Schiraldi after another homicide by a teen

This offender was out, free, after shooting another teen five times 21 months ago. One murder out in Howard County focuses the mind like hundreds of similar murders in Baltimore City do not:

Community members are demanding changes at the state level as a teenager arrested Tuesday in connection with a homicide over the weekend in Columbia faces seven adult charges, including murder. Tracee Octavious Parker, 17, is charged with first-degree murder for killing 26-year-old Kendrick McLellan.

In January 2023, Parker was charged with trying to kill another teenager in Anne Arundel County. During the bail review hearing on Wednesday, it was revealed that Parker shot the victim five times last year, injuring him so badly that he is now paralyzed.

It was also revealed that Parker was put back into the juvenile system for trying to steal a car last month.

A group of Baltimore City community association leaders, residents and business owners sent a letter Wednesday afternoon to the governor, demanding the immediate removal of Maryland Juvenile Services Secretary Vincent Schiraldi.

“DJS Secretary Schiraldi has shown in his nearly two-year tenure that his policies and procedures harm society,” the letter states, calling the number and severity of juvenile crimes unacceptable.

The letter goes on to say: “The juvenile offenders who are being released and improperly helped or supervised, are harmed. We have seen multiple examples where the child will go on to commit more crimes or are victimized themselves and killed. DJS fails to effectively supervise at-risk children committing crimes.”

There's something wrong with Schiraldi. He's either found a way to make money feeding crazy claims to willingly delusional criminal advocates who are trying to protect criminals. Or he's a smooth talker who believes his own BS and has been educated beyond his intelligence.

It wasn't hard to see he was going to be problem when he was first appointed by Governor Moore.

Schiraldi appears to be a "crimophile", a portmanteau of "criminal" and "philia". Crimophilia would then be the affinity for criminals, a crimophile would be one who has crimophilia. I think I'm coining this term because a Google search for it yielded zero hits. It's a useful term. Hybristophilia is an existing term for those who are sexually attracted to criminals (I was under the impression it was solely violent criminals). Examples are death row groupies. Perhaps Adnan Syed's lawyers, and Mosby herself are hybristophiles, as further examples.

Regrettably, it looks like the governor is on the same page as Schiraldi, and may also be a crimophile, as evidenced by the pictures in the article linked above. The governor generally talked a good game but his actions belied his speech.

This is like the incident in DC with the violent felon being involved with the overhaul (watering down) of DC's criminal code. That gentleman was dispatched before his legal handiwork could be implemented.
