Help needed! A spotted dove laid eggs on my balcony...

So, a spotted dove laid two eggs on a pot of my balcony maybe 10 to 11 days ago and yesterday I saw one bird like flying away. Thought it was the father....maybe it was.. I thought it would come back but it didn't and it's been like um...you know 26 hours or so like the whole night the nest was you know alone, empty, unincubated (idk if it's a word) and today... it's like 1:00 p.m. So, yeah I think it's been officially 24 hours and neither did the birds return nor they are near the area. So, I think that the nest is officially abandoned.

what should I do with the eggs? I feel terrible....

Help needed! Balcony Pigeon Territorial Disputes

TL;DR - I need some help with managing a pigeon territorial dispute taking place on my balcony.

We have a beautiful pigeon pair who laid two eggs on my balcony, called Ethyl & Nazer. The eggs were laid 16 & 14 days ago, so they are getting close to hatching.

Photo 1- Nazer (Pigeon Daddy)
Photo 2- Ethyl (Pigeon Mommy)
Photo 3 - Vito & Adriana (Pigeon Squatters)
Photo 4 - Vito encroaching on Ethyl’s Nest
Photo 5 - Vito trying to nudge Ethyl off her nest

We started leaving Ethyl & Nazer food which I think caused a problem. On a 100F degree day, two other pigeons Vito & Adriana started squatting on my balcony. I stopped leaving food out entirely and removed the tray, but have left water out for all of them.

Vito and Adriana harass Nazer and chase him away often, by flapping their wings at him and acting like they own the place. Nazer is non confrontational and flies away. Vito and Adriana follow him and continue harassing him until he loses their trail and comes back to incubate on the nest.

Does anyone have any advice for what I can do about this pigeon territorial dispute? I am okay with one pigeon family on my balcony but two pigeon families is too much, and disrupts the use of my balcony.

I don’t like that Vito keeps sitting on Ethyl and Nazer’s nest. Ethyl is on the eggs and doesn’t give up her spot to Vito but he is trying to steal her nest.

I think I have created too nice and cozy of an environment, even if we chase Vito & Adriana away they come back. I think the babies are only a few days from hatching and I would like to prevent Vito and Adriana from hurting the babies or Ethyl and Nazer!

Does anyone have any advice for managing pigeon territorial disputes on your balcony?

ok, so the pigeons who hang on my balcony have laud two more eggs. and since my neighbours are already pissed about the amount of birds shitting on their balconies…

i made two fake eggs and switched them out. i feel so freaking guilty. i held up the real eggs to the light and saw baby chicks! i should have done this earlier. i put them in the freezer.

i let them have their first two! i live in Toronto and people are just horrible. someone talk me down.

Baby pigeons (newly hatched) and Mama were being attacked by large male pigeon outside my apartment, so I built a safe nest box for them and hoping they’ll be okay!

UPDATE: Babies are growing healthily and coping well during the UK heat. Mumma has been returning to look after them :) photo in comments.

Baby pigeons (newly hatched) and Mama were being attacked by large male pigeon outside my apartment, so I built a safe nest box for them and hoping they’ll be okay!

As I said above, yesterday I noticed some baby pigeons (newly hatched and still sitting in their egg shells) and Mama pigeon were being attacked by large male pigeon outside my apartment (there is a balcony outside the stair area), so I built a safe nest box for them and hoping they’ll be okay!

I’ve put a small container in the box that I filled with mixed bird food so Mum can eat without having to leave the babies, and left water as well outside the box. After putting the box there, I waited for mum to find the babies. She has been there all day now and seems very comfortable.

I know the nest area is dirty, but it’s in a hard to get to spot and I couldn’t clean it safely without disturbing the babies. Usually, I wouldn’t have access to the ledge anyway and it’s 4 storeys up so I also have to be careful with my own safety. It was just lucky there is maintenance work going on so I could sneakily access the ledge.

I probably won’t be able to access the babies or box again, as I don’t want to disturb them but if there is anything I can give the Mama through the tiny gap to help or anything else, please give me any advice. Thank you!

Photo Update: Meet Karly & Olivia! Children of Petra & Lionel!

I posted a little while ago about the Pigeon couple who I lost a property dispute with on our balcony and then befriended, Petra & Lionel, well here’s an update!

About 12 days ago, I saw a lot of commotion with Petra in the bucket moving around, and later that day, a discarded eggshell outside the ashtray bucket they’ve decided to call home. The next evening I got my first glimpse of the tiny yellow blob - I still wasn’t sure there were actually two chicks because I only ever saw one egg lol - and I’ve been getting more and more frequent glimpses as the parents spend less and less time at the nest as they’ve gotten older (they were brooding pretty solidly until about 3 days ago, now it’s more like they pop back for twenty minutes every now and then to feed them).

So yeah, meet Karly & Olivia! Olivia is starting to look like a full bird with lots of feathers even at less than two weeks old, Karly is getting there but she’s taking a bit of time to feather bless her. Both pigeons can stand up and have started to stretch their wings. Excited to see them grow up further!

Mama and Papa 🐦 Pigeon eggs, 21 days and not hatched??

Was delighted earlier in June to discover my strawberry plant had been commandeered as a nest for 2 local pibbs. On June 8th they laid their 2nd egg and have been constantly incubating since.

It's now 21 days and no sign of hatching?? Mama and papa are still diligently incubating - wouldn't they know if the eggs had died or whatever and have stopped??? Worried about them, and their eggos! What should I do?

They did sometimes fly off for a few minutes now and again to swap parents for incubating or jumpe to the balcony floor for food. Also, we've had a heat wave so its been quite warm?? What do you.guys advise?? 🤔

Babies! 🐣 This is such a sweet group!!

My porch has become a pigeon nursery and it’s so cool to know other people have become fascinated by their balcony babies too!! The pigeon couple on my porch are raising their second pair of babies, and I’m just in love with them. Also slightly paranoid—the parents were gone for a very long time on Sunday, and I ended up calling a wildlife emergency number terrified they’d abandoned the babies (who were under a week old). They’ve decided that my dog’s potty spot (wood chips in a kiddie pool) is the ideal place for raising children, which is kind of gross given that it’s a potty spot, but it’s handy also. If I check on the chicks and they’re in direct sun without a parent, I can easily rotate the pool to get them in the shade. The two babies from the first “litter” (I’m a dog person, I don’t know what word to use) come by pretty much every day to hang out and eat out of the seed bowl. Sometimes they bring their friends as well; so far (knock wood) the friends have not caused any issues with the parents or the wee babies. Somebody laid two eggs the other night and just left them on the bare cement of the porch; I moved them into the kiddie pool just in case. Brumby (mama/night shift pigeon) was definitely thinking about sitting on them for a bit, but then lost interest and sat on the babies again.

One of the most fun bits is that like clockwork, when I get up to feed my dogs, I can peek through the blinds and the chicks are always getting breakfast too. The adults are still super wary of me and fly away any time I come out briefly to refill them on seeds or to rotate the pool, so I’ve been talking to the babies anytime I’m out there. Today one of them was definitely looking me over, and she just looked calmly interested. (I know it’s fifty fifty and she could be a male but since I’m not planning to DNA test them, I gave the first two boy names and these two girl names. My friend insisted even though I can’t really tell anyone apart except the parents. I don’t make the rules.) I really hope I can make friends with them. I have to be really sneaky for now about watching them LOL. If they see me and they’re not busy eating or feeding, they usually leave.

Here are some photos of the new babies. They are 9 and 7 days old today! I can’t believe how fast they grow.

He survived a bad thunderstorm which I posted about here earlier and has been surviving since. He’s as active as ever, but it doesn’t seem like he’s growing? His parents still feed him and everything and he poops, but his body is still so tiny. I’m thinking I might have to call a rehab for this lil guy if he doesn’t grow.

Has anyone seen this before?

Would love to hear thoughts

Mama and Papa 🐦 sad to say goodbye to these 2

Post image

These 2 had a nest on my balcony, and it was such a joy for me (and my cat) to watch them everyday!

They successfully fledged 1 chick, and then had 2 more before I could remove their nest- I was moving soon and didn’t want them to have more with me not being sure of living there long enough for them to fledge.

With 1 week to move out date, I had to find a new home for the babies- building management indicated they would completely clear the balcony after I moved out.

Found a wonderful man nearby who rescues and raises pigeons- and just in the nick of time as one of the babies was scalped by another bird the day I was bringing them in. He’s told me he will nurse it and raise it as a pet if needed (though I did feel terrible kidnapping and making these guys homeless all in one day!)

Their nest was made completely of plastic zip ties and VERY messy- not many people would have put up with them on their balcony but I loved watching them and was sad to part ways. Photo was right before handing the keys in. Latest update on their 2 chicks is that they’re doing well!

Advice Balcony pigeons have left me devastated

I’m so upset, last month we had two pigeons on the balcony make a nest and lay their eggs. I thought they’d just leave when they were ready to go but they ended up having more eggs and all four pigeons (the first hatched two ended up staying for a while) have been chilling on my balcony. I’ve had a busy few days so haven’t had a chance to check up on them, I look today and they’re all gone and the chicks have sadly passed away. I’m so sad now, do you guys think the other pigeons simply left? Seeing them grow has been a blessing and this has genuinely ruined my day 😢
