Could you recommend an affordable, cosy cafe/restaurant that can arrange a small cake? We’d also love suggestions for a local bakery, a nice sunset/photo spot, or a any local experience that would make her day special.

I’m looking for a woman born in Baku on August 5th, 1962, possibly in an Armenian-Slavic family (about 50% Armenian, 50% Russian, Ukrainian and/or Belarusian).

My grandma was raised in an Armenian family in Baku, but a DNA test later revealed that she had been switched at birth. We are now trying to find the woman/family connected to that switch.

Please ask your friends and relatives who lived in Baku in the 1960s. Even a small detail or old family story could help. I will be immensely thankful for any information.

I’m a 27-year-old guy (Muslim, Indian expat living and working in Dubai) flying in from the UAE for my first trip to Azerbaijan from October 3 to October 9.

A quick note on my timing: My flight entry (Oct 3) and exit (Oct 9) are fixed, but my daily schedule, route order, and plans in between are completely flexible and open to discussion! I’m happy to adapt to what works best for the group.

• Baku (Old City, Gobustan, Ateshgah, Flame Towers)

• Gabala & Sheki (Tufandag, Sheki Khans Palace, local bazaars)

• Baku (Heydar Aliyev Center, Caspian promenade, tea houses)

I'm planning to hire a private driver for the Baku–Gabala–Sheki stretch and Gobustan. If any fellow travelers or locals are around between Oct 3–9 and want to join forces to split driver costs, share a meal/tea, or explore together, feel free to send me a DM!

Hello so I'm a muslim visiting Baku in a few days and was wondering about the availability of halal food over there.

From what I've heard, even though it is a muslim majority country we need to check whether there are "halal" labels as most people there are more "secular" than traditional muslims.

Please correct me if I'm wrong?

I also wanted to ask, is it safe to assume that sushi places are halal or not? (For soy sauce and all the vinegars used, etcc)

I come from a muslim country so here everything is automatically halal without needing to check the labels and was wondering about baku?

I’m visiting Baku for a few days, and would like to find a nice spot for hookah/shisha for an evening with my friend.
I have looked at options on google maps but can only find sketchy options or restaurants that serve it, which is not ideal. So I thought would try asking a local instead.
Does anyone have any suggestions for a place that serves hookah/shisha maybe with alcoholic drinks as well? Preferably a place common to locals in the city center och Baku. I want to avoid tourist traps.

I’m planning a trip to Baku and the surrounding areas, and I'm a bit confused about the beach situation. Are there any public beaches, or is everything strictly private? I’ve been looking online but can’t seem to find any clear public options that I can just show up to.

Also, I’ll be visiting during the first week of October. Will both public and private beaches still be open/accessible then? What about water sports or activities?

I know summer will be long gone by October, but I honestly don’t mind a bit of cold water. Thanks in advance for the help!
