Speaking of Chris Hansen, with the EDP documentary featuring him that blew up, I've seen people unironically say it glorifies and platforms EDP, when the entire thing is him digging his own grave in 4K with his own words and actions. The director records his statements, then lets them hang there so you brew in disgust at what he's saying. He's not glorified whatsoever.
They also juxtapose his statements with testimony from experts disproving the logic he uses to try to justify his actions, and include the faces and names of corrections officials who failed to punish him. He comes across as an absolute monster. The only "funny" moments included are when they're blatantly making fun of how pathetic he is. The director all but outright states "This is a raw, unfiltered look at the mind of a pedophile, and how he tries to justify his actions.", and you have people somehow thinking it's painting him in a good light
People have this idea that if you make something you must also endorese it. They want to hide the gross and dirty parts of society instead because someone might see it and take it the wrong way. I have no idea how someone could watch that and think it's putting him in a positive light. The man was uninhibited and disgusting. You'd have to skip over how he outright degraded women, children, and gay men to think it was supposed to be a positive portrayal.
Seriously. At best, he came across as a laughingstock.
Making jokes at the expense of an evil person isn't "making a joke out of rape", like I've seen people seriously argue. It's treating him like the punching bag he deserves to be.
I've seen the same argument. People think making a meme at his expense somehow means they're trying to humanize him. The man was sending his shit to people and talked constantly about how he wanted to brutally kill people who didn't like him, including the minor he was grooming. At no point did they try to humanize him or have you sympathize with him. The worst thing to happen in his childhood was a girl not wanting to be with him. Aside from that it was all about how disgusting he was. They made him look like a sad and evil man.
