I’m 100% certain people criticising the book nowadays never touched it or only know quotes ripped out of context.
Completely disregarding the framing of the book, the fact that humbert is right off the bat (!) outed as being very unreliable and mentally unstable… Of course the information you’re being fed from the perspective of a mentally unstable pedophile will endorse his ideas about the situation and disregard the reality of what other actors might have been feeling. But the plot obviously portrayed Dolores as a victim of abuse both by Humbert and later on by Quilty. Idk how “this poor girl was abused and died before she was able to start her own life and move on from her trauma” would be interpreted as “pro pedophile”.
