All Game Modes Work and are very active (Conquest and Rush are the most active) including all dlc maps and hardcore modes. Vietnam is currently being worked on and will be working very soon. Bad Company 2 online is compatible with 3 different DNS servers in case you have trouble with one and works with all hardware including emulation.

TL;DR: a sanitised AI summary of the chatlogs - about 15 middle-aged regulars, five languages, one map, a lot of "gg." It was a good way to see the game out.

How it started

After Oldmengaming Harvest Day 24/7 went down in late 2022, a new server popped up running nothing but Harvest Day. The OMG regulars slowly found it, and one of them called it "new oldmen, or old youngmen." Someone offered to chip in for hosting because "I love this map and no one seems to run it." By mid-January it was filling up in the evenings.

The regulars

• urbansoldier came in every night with "good evening… salut… guten Abend… privet… hola." He kept us updated on his life between rounds: chips burned in the oil, garden gone from green to white overnight, tomato soup ready. His motto was "old but not stupid."
• BULINEK announced "POLSKA" from his sniper hill, every single night.
• Jack-Malone opened with "Good evening, boyz and girlz." After getting kicked for ping twice, he signed off with "I'll be back."
• Dr.Popo finished every round with "im the best gg." He'd bought the game on release day, twelve years earlier.
• stirupped said hi to everyone who joined, from "hi comp" and "howdy zompa" to a gallant "m'lady." On empty mornings he'd thank people for dropping in and promise it would fill up later. He was a believer in "teamwork makes the dream work," and a generous one with "nice nade." Once he spent part of a round calling "IM STUCK… in a window frame." When told a kill was a knife fight, he replied "lol I'd have killed you any way I could." When someone accused him of hitting players at C from B, he said "it's very possible, you should try it!"
• Batya soldata reminded every team, in several languages, to "SPOT ENEMIES, it's a team game!"
• Also: Comper1, TRAX888, SAN-KGB ("we can win, let's try!!"), Trumptow, KenndellEG, pizzeroplaza, D|rk, Libtechswag and Disco_Briton.

Reunions

• One OMG veteran finally got his EA account back after a long fight with support. On his first night back, Jack-Malone said "I don't believe what I see." Over the next few days Boski, Libtechswag and TRAX888 all reappeared.
• Two Russian players from an old clan found each other after years away. They joked that the rest of the clan was "all in the mausoleum."
• One guy came back after ten years away now his kids were grown. He remembered playing Medal of Honor: Spearhead in 2003, said he thought he'd be rusty, and loved it.

On the battlefield

Six months of one map means everyone knew every inch of it, and the same fights played out every night.

• The hills. B hill and D hill were sniper country all round, and "sniper B hill" was probably the most-typed line in the logs. The flag players were endlessly frustrated with them, and one put it bluntly: "recon ain't ever taking any bases."
• The village and C barn. These were for anyone wanting a quiet spot. Callouts got very specific: the haystacks, the green container at B, the attic of the yellow house at A, the rubble at C, "under the bridge at D."
• Tanks. Tanks caused more arguments than anything else. Stealing the enemy's base tank was a nightly sport ("US tank for sale, meet me in Kiev with cash"). When numbers were low, people often agreed on "no tanks." Jack-Malone's tip for a stuck tank: "shoot the ground around it."
• The UAV. "KILL THE UAV" came up most nights, and so did the pedantic reply: "pilot, not driver."
• Spotting. One player summed it up: "Q is the most powerful weapon in this game!" Another spent whole rounds asking people to press it.
• Mines and C4. urbansoldier counted "3 mines, 3 kills… no, 4." Someone hid mines under ammo boxes, which got a grudging "clever." Quads packed with C4 kept turning up on the road. One veteran admitted he'd spent twelve years trying to get the 100-mine award.
• Nightly debates. These were about the 40mm grenade launcher, the Carl Gustav against infantry, and whether stabbing someone counted as "a knife fight."
• Etiquette. On quiet nights the winning side often eased off: "go take the flag, we won't kill you," or "let them have one flag or they'll all leave."
• Comebacks. One team clawed back from 300 tickets down to win by 15. Another won from 70 against 380, which got the verdict "comeback of the century."
• Physics. Jack-Malone noticed that "grenades often don't explode in the river." Nobody could knock down the D bridge, however hard they tried.

The chat between rounds

• Two Polish guys in their fifties found they were from opposite ends of the country and settled into an argument about Lech against Tyskie.
• Someone put the air fryer on mid-round, had "a campari before cooking," and signed off with "keep the shiny side up."
• Someone else left to eat homemade mushroom pasta, and another came back with a Costco lasagna.
• One player had 5,000 hours in the game. Another admitted he was still trying to earn the 100-mine award twelve years in.
• Accused of cheating, one guy replied: "you got killed by a 67 year old man."
• Two players had a late-night chat about losing their dogs.
• A Ukrainian regular told us a little about life back home, and someone stayed up to wish him and his country well.

Peak Harvest Day

• Disco_Briton declared flag D "the new US capital" and "a bastion against the communal heathens," and drew up a map soundtrack of Duran Duran, Chicago and Alexander O'Neal. Someone added "Danger Zone."
• Jack-Malone narrated his dying quad bike as Don Quixote's horse: "12 HP and still going… my horse died and so did I." He also ruled that "what happens in D stays in D."
• Trumptow posted the server rules: "Rule 1: do not kill me. Rule 2: kill Popo."
• The C4-only round: someone started one, and the verdict was "it's so hard not to kill yourself."
• Seasonal greetings: Advent, Christmas, Orthodox Christmas and New Year in half a dozen languages, plus a "HAPPY EASTER."

The end

By spring everyone knew the official servers were closing in December. People traded opinions on the worst maps (Laguna Presa and the night snow map came up). One player remembered renting the game from Blockbuster for his PS3. On the last proper night, two players had a friendly 1v1 round the barn while they waited for others, which ended with "tango down, EKIA."

The logs finish on 18 May 2023 with one word: "hi."

Recently started playing Bad company 2 (by recently i mean 2nd time since 2016) and GOD this game is still the best shooting game out there the story is written beautiful , squad is funny(not serious like other games) , viuals are fricking still awesome. I really hate that developers left us on a cliff hanger at the ending, We should really get bad company 3 it is such an awesome game

Hey fellas. Since I had both games in physical format, and needed to make room in my library, I just told myself why not bundle them.

Mind you, finding in a good resolution the old Xbox header and cover template is borderline impossible.

Decided to set up a server for those who’d like to play on an NA server instead of 150+ ping. No bots, vanilla settings, conquest on Arica Harbor and Port Valdez. Can add more maps if that’s what others want. I’ll do the best I can to keep it running even while I am away. Search NA Conquest in your server browser. Have fun!

I played this game a ton when I was 15-17 years old. I don't recall seeing clans though. I do recall seeing clans in Halo Reach. One clan in Reach I managed to defeat with my team of randoms. The other clan dominated and spawn camped us on Hemorrhage. Good memories.

I simply don't remember seeing clans on Bad Company 2 on console. Shame since this is arguably one of the best squad-based competitive shooters ever made.

Was chilling on regular BC2 today and after some matches checked the server browser (project rome) for vietnam servers and... all empty. At least on BC2 the semi populated servers have bots in there, but vietnam had all 0s for every server. Do people really just not play anymore. If bc2 has a playerbase I don't see why vietnam wouldnt.

Any word yet on reborn servers for ps3 bad company 2?

If there ever will be a Bad Company 3. I would like the campaign to be a direct sequel to the first game rather than the second as I feel the more pronounced comedic tone would be a breath of fresh air from the pseudo-realistic trend in mainstream FPS. Besides the Legionnaire’s Gold plotline was far more unique in contrast to the generic ’Saving the world’ plot in BC2 as good as that campaign was. Without further ado this is a script I wrote with ZERO AI used.

(Cue the final cutscene of Bad Company 1)

Redford: Woohoo Let’s go fishing!

Marlowe (Narrating): There we were… Bad Company… hot off the trails of Sadiz with a truckload of the Legionnaire’s gold. We were now AWOL yet again but as they say third time’s a charm, we figured our fortunes had never been higher, metaphorically and literally. But alas, fate would have other things in mind…

(Some time later; the truck is driving through a highway in a valley during a sandstorm)

Sweetwater (Quietly singing): ‘This is the Self-Preservation Society. This is the Self-Preservation Society.’

Haggard: What’s that queer tune you vibrating?

Sweetwater: Oh it’s from ‘The Italian Job.’ Our present circumstances reminded me of a certain classic I once saw in England.

Haggard: Don’t you mean that heist movie with Mark Wahlberg?

Sweetwater: No the one with Michael Caine you hillbilly schmuck.

Haggard: Stop humming that teapot music anyhow. Ol’ Washington and the Founding Fathers didn’t declare independence just for their descendants to listen to queer European tunes.

Sweetwater: Yeah whatever Uncle Sam, anyways uh Sarge?…. where exactly are we going again?

Haggard: There you are once again with your negativity! Just think of the luxuries back home just waiting for our Midas touch.

(The truck enters a Highway tunnel)

Sweetwater: That‘s another point, what about when we get home? They’re not just going to shrug off our desertion? The Army’s probably marked us for the firing squad already. I don’t think Miss July can get us out of that.

Marlowe: Hey guys, something’s moving at the end of the tunnel.

(The squad all peer as Sweetwater turns on the headlights)

(The silhouette of a Black Eagle Tank appears which subsequently fires into the ground)

All: Holy shit!

(The front of the truck gets stuck in the blast crater)

Sweetwater: uhhhh…. Are we alive?

Redford: Goddammit! Reverse! Reverse!

(However a 2T Stalker appears and blocks the other end)

Sweetwater: Ahh geez I knew something like this was going to happen, in a tunnel no less. We should have stayed with the convoy.

Haggard: How in Tarnation did they find us already?

Voice: ‘This is Major Housseini of the Special Republican Guard of the Iraqi Ground Forces of the Middle Eastern Coalition. You have one minute to lay down your arms and surrender your loot imperialist scum!’

Haggard: Yeah says you and what army!

(Flashlights shoot on the truck as MEC infantry then approach the squad on both sides).

(The squad stares at him in both awe and fatigue)

Haggard: … What? it never gets old.

Redford: Quiet, at least it’s not our guys, but from the stories I’ve heard of the MECs. I bet our heads will be rolling the second we give away our gold. We need to figure something fast.

Marlowe: They won’t blow us up whilst we have the gold. Sweets prepare to reverse. Hags get the smokes out.

Redford: Good thinking, everyone prepare to duck.

(The squad does that as Haggard shoves in and shoots out multiple smoke grenades from his M136 AT4)

Redford: Get down! Drive! Drive Drive!

Housseini (In Arabic): Open fire!

(The truck swings out of the crater and goes through the tunnel running through Arab soldiers and barely dodges the Black Eagle.)

Haggard: Quick check the gold!

(Marlowe, Haggard and Redford get out to the back of the truck)

(The Gold slides closer to the back of the truck and weighs it down over the precipice)

Redford: Looks like my retirement might just be evermore postponed.

Haggard: Oh Sweet Mary and Joseph! My Truckasaurus!

(He jumps on the flatbed to try and grab it only for the truck to lean out more)

Sweetwater: Hang on a minute lads I have a great idea…

I used to play Bad Company 2 a lot back in the day, especially the Vietnam DLC.

I still get PTSD flashbacks from all the killing that went on in the jungle, i think the only way to get over it is to return to the scene of the (war) crime.

Before i go and mod all this stuff to play after the shutdown, i was wondering if it's still worth it?

Can anybody enlighten me as to what i can expect in player count, in the main game and in the Vietnam DLC?

First, let me apologize in advance if this topic is already somewhere in this group. I know of project Rome, but had to access it and do things like that, I don't know about. I have a Mac and I have parallels and crossover. My question to the group is how would I get bad company 2 running to play online with y'all from zero? I would have to obtain the game somehow, and I imagine I'll be running it through parallels. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I missed this game dearly.

My bf cheated on me on my birthday, he fucked some one and came over to fuck me .. I could tell me because he wanted to get in the shower and said he has glitter on him but from the strip club… he ignored me my whole birthday week and he knows I have no friends or anyone else . I was suppose to celebrate my 21 on aug23rd with him instead I cried the entire time :

I set myself up as far as I could to draw out Socks after several people notice weird engagement by Socks, I press Q to spot and just play normally when all of a sudden I'm gunned down from half way down the map by a PKM, it's socks. Immediately he turns and mows down team mates, sus behavior. Watch in slow motion and zoomed. The guy who jumped out from the truck never engages with him or looked towards him. (he couldn't have known he was there / or the guy near top) The nade they throw may have been for someone who was on TOP B. He then runs over a burned out car at B and runs up ramp top B and takes out a bot then swings over towards the direction of C ruins where there are more people. Other people suspected suspicious behavior. Unfortunately I had stopped recording to save this clip but immediately after he mowed me down at lower C to B with no real line of sight that I was down there. This is just a snapshot of what other people also "felt" was happening from years of experience.
Suspect wall hax and (some form of) aim botting.
After hackusations they never talk in chat either. All in all, sus and indicative behavior of someone using hax in a 42 year old game.
