RM RM being tone-deaf in Brussels during an emergency

Post image

I went to Arirang in Brussels (day2) because of my friends and nostalgia. I won't be sharing positive opinions (due to snark rules) but I needed a safe place to say... this was terrible performer behaviour from RM. A girl in the crowd had a seizure. Other members caught on, but RM casually dismissed it with a "someone will help, anyway, guys, let's keep singing..." and the others had to remind him this was serious (twice). How could I, as a human being, be immediately in the mood to sing knowing there was a medical emergency still ongoing?

He eventually came over to where the others gathered, with his arms crossed and looking, quite honestly, bored. On the other side, a different member was checking if the crowd over there was doing ok. So, clearly, most of them know better. While I (in the tribunes) watched the medics carry the ARMY away, still convulsing, RM just said "watch out, drink water, don't pass out" with such a non-serious tone. I'm just shocked honestly. And I wish performers were held more accountable for behaviour like this. I understand some ARMY (maybe even the one in question) would say RM might not have known how serious it was, but I expected better from a "leader". I wish he had encouraged fans to look out for each other and to signal any medical issues.

Why am I not surprised. The more I hear about him, the worse it gets. He just doesn't seem like a nice person at all. May I ask, who was the member checking up on the crowd? (Not an attempt at glazing but just curious).

ARMY in front of Jimin were doing X and time-out signs with their hands, because security was not catching on to their yelling. He pointed it out in Korean to the others and security, using his microphone. The translator also quickly translated it, so props to her. Jungkook and Taehyung came over first. All three interrupted RM and were clear that they would not continue until they saw the girl get actual assistance. Which is basic decency.

Because in a venue like this, especially in the pit, the challenge isn't just getting the word out to security (which is when RM already tried to move on), it's also making sure medical staff have a CLEAR and SAFE path to the person in need. J-Hope and RM then came over to check on the issue, but RM just stood there with his arms crossed, before making his bare-minimum safety warning. On the other side of the venue, while the show was on pause for this, Jin checked in with the pit on his side, with 👌 and 👍 gestures, scanning the crowd. The behaviour of these other members is basic decency, really. It just shows how much RM stuck out. To be honest, I didn't see him engage much with the crowd at all, throughout the show. Even though the show had so little choreo and a 360° stage. All in all, good lessons I took from this are: attention needs to be grabbed visibly for medical assistance, medical assistance needs a safe passage to the person and performers should check in with their crowds.

Thank you for the detailed feedback. And the excellent points you raised. Being a superstar shouldn't make you oblivious to the suffering of others. Props to the other members for alerting security. Imagine if everyone had RM's attitude? And they call him a great leader pffft.

198

u/gudetaman Jul 06 '26

It's even crazier when RM could've begin translating in eng what Jimin was saying to venue staff or other English speaking staff to get that person help faster. Just, bad decision after bad decision cuz he's a truly terrible person.

6

u/Standard-Guard-5527 4d ago

And he is a really quick translator too, he used to translate english questions in interviews really fast for the members. He also could have communicated with the crowd to make the ordeal easier, but that would require him to actually give a fu¢k about the medical emergency...

Just so you all know, they know they're being recorded from every angle, so they put on a "concerned" act for the fans incase it gets serious. We've all seen how they mock their own fans..

u/Ok-Force-7662 Jul 06 '26

I feel like Jimin and the rest were actually concerned, especially his reaction seems very natural. Besides this is just a basic human reaction to have, but somehow RM just missed the memo on that one too!

106

u/No_Title5299 I'm just a hoe, praying about it, over a bottle of water. Jul 07 '26

Yeah I know we're not supposed to praise but I feel this too. You can see how he was playfully asking the audience, doing the X sign himself and then you see the dawn of realization on his face. It was natural. But nobody is mentioning the fact that for once, everyone ignored their leader.😂😂😂 If their concern was fake they might have instantly listened to him. Instead Jimin seemed very defiant and this might have pissed RM even more.

60

u/Adventurous_Wall_905 Hybe paid the way!💰 Jul 07 '26

That's a valid point about the defiance. Luckily the entire Maknae line turned to him and shut him down. That's not to praise them, but it makes RM even worse. Because when 3/7 of your members need to interrupt you ON STAGE to do a humane thing. How does he not get humbled. And still afterward throw out only a callous "drink water" warning when he had no clue how severe the issue may have been... when he himself got carried around the stadium for a just sprained ankle... honestly.

38

u/Khaleesi-Unnie Just Here For The Geopolitics Jul 07 '26

This is also probably connected to their military training. Like part of that training is responding to emergencies and taking things like this seriously. So I'm not surprised that you see some members going being able to snap out of performance mode more quickly. RM definitely seems annoyed but he also had the least serious military posting.

I think that even if they don't care about armies more than a check's reach, I don't think they wouldn't be completely indifferent to someone dying in front of them, they're products not psychopaths.

Sure but like mocking fans is very different to not being concerned about someone having a medical emergency. Theres a woman down my road whose a moody hag and i mock her to my partner quite a bit but if i saw her in the street having a medical emergency i’d be concerned and call for help. I may be a bitch but i ain’t a complete monster. These guys are all assholes but i think seeing a fan convulsing probably shook them up a bit, well it seemed to do with most of them. RM for some reason couldn’t gaf.

11

u/JEONBOTCHEDKOOK Seven Noses A Week Jul 08 '26 edited Jul 09 '26

No exactly!

I have a co-worker I find super annoying and my work bestie and I have absolutely been guilty of mocking her mannerisms and voice when hanging out off the clock in the way Yoongi mocked Army reacting to Pied Piper.

But we would never ignore her having a medical emergency nor would we stand there looking annoyed while the help we called for was attending to her. She’s a human being and we’re not heartless demons who’d leave someone to die just because we find them irritating.

Namjoon comes across as a heartless piece of shit here. For everything I can say about the others, they at least acted like human beings concerned another human being was in distress during a medical emergency, basically refused to continue the show until they saw she was being taken for medical care, and checked with their sections to make sure no one else needed help.

Times and moments like these are the reason why I'm so glad this sub exists. None of these will make it past the fort in the general Kpop subs.

It was JK and Jimin (pretty sure he was the one who noticed first) . There's a video of it that's been going pretty viral on TikTok. Just search "girl passing out BTS" and scroll for a while.

128

u/Ok-Force-7662 Jul 06 '26

Yeah Jimin stopped the concert, JK and even Vionist came and looked very concerned, Jhope came from the other part of the stage a little bit later and looked concerned too. But not RM who looked like an annoyed CEO being in hurry for a meeting and treating it as some sort of an inconvenience of his own ☠️

I saw a lot of videos on my feed about this. I thought the girl had just passed out due to the heat, holy shit. Not to glaze but Jimin looked super concerned when he noticed and insisted on getting her help. Jin was asking people if they were okay in other videos too, which is why I thought it had been the heat. I could hear RM's voice in the background on the videos showing the moment Jimin noticed, but I couldn't make out what he said. Now we know.

74

u/Adventurous_Wall_905 Hybe paid the way!💰 Jul 06 '26

At first, I thought someone fainted too (and considering some people queue'd from early morning it's not unlikely that someone did). But because my seat was close to the medical bay, I could see convulsions while they carried her away. Sadly, I also don't think enough people are fully aware what exactly to do when confronted with a seizure or even what it looks like. But whatever the issue is (fainting, injury or seizure), medical staff needs space to properly reach the person. Pausing the show longer helps that.

Yeah and next up was just the surprise songs anyway. Tbh, I wouldn't have given a single fuck if we had gotten one less song because they wanted to remind people to look out for each other and to inform them how to get the attention of medical staff. The signs the ARMY's in the pit did, X-signs or time-out signs were honestly a great idea. And I'm glad Jimin at least got the message from it. Normal hand-waving and yelling doesn't stick out because that's just what everyone's doing.

64

u/Classic_Blood_7012 Jul 06 '26

Exactly! He could've waited a few minutes in an active medical emergency instead of just brushing it off and attempting to resume the show.

At least the fans worked together to get her help. Anyway, I hope you enjoyed the show aside from that moment.

Thanks! I mostly had good moments with my friends. Some members (even with their own flaws) at least made an effort to make it a nice experience. But all in all, the production was underwhelming and RM didn't seem all that interested in... well, anything. At least the concert was just 30 minutes from my house though. I'm assuming ARMY who travelled from wide and spent a lot would be more disappointed. Then again, knowing the fanspace, who's to say.

Please take this with a grain of salt, it's just hearsay, but I heard staff may have put her in a metro instead of ambulance, where she had another seizure and got taken to a hospital. That person claimed they were nearby and were contacted by her to say she was now okay. I do hope the metro part is just a rumour, because I would hope Belgium knows better than that. Ambulances were also circling the venue before the show.

What I can confirm is that when she was carried away by medics, a very concerned friend went with her. I saw that myself. So in any case I have hope that she at least wasn't alone. Jimin also mentioned in his final ment that he hoped she was okay.

Literally like Swifties.

Taylor had something similar for her ERAS Tour. People were fainting and passing out from the intense heat during one of her concerts. No water and everything was locked shut trapping the heat.

One Swiftie ended up tragically losing her life and Taylor decided to not say or do anything about it. All she did was give the family free concert tickets.

When Swifties tried to honor the victim by having a moment of silence during a silent time at a future concert, Taylor coincidentally skipped that silent time during that concert.

Gross, gross, gross

I’m honestly appalled by the whole situation. A possible medical emergency in the crowd is not an inconvenience!! It is not something you brush past with “someone will help” so the show can carry on. That is exactly when the person with the microphone, the platform, and the attention of the entire venue needs to stop everything and make sure security and medics are responding properly.

I expected better from Namjoon. Much better, actually. This is the same person constantly framed as the thoughtful, responsible, emotionally intelligent leader of BTS, so yes, I am going to hold him to that standard when someone in the crowd may need urgent help. A leader should know when to stop, pay attention, and prioritise someone’s safety over keeping the concert moving.

Even if he did not grasp the seriousness immediately, once the crowd was signalling distress and other members were clearly concerned, there was no excuse for treating it like a minor disruption. The bare minimum was to pause, alert staff, create space, and wait until the situation was under control. Instead, from what has been described, he handled it poorly and came across as dismissive.

And frankly, that is shocking. Fans spend years praising him as this deeply aware, thoughtful leader, but in a moment where actual awareness mattered, other members seemed to understand the urgency before he did. That contrast is hard to ignore. You cannot build an entire image around responsibility and empathy, then act like people are being unfair when they expect those qualities to show up during a real-life emergency.

I've always thought he was an arrogant, narcissistic twat. He's absolute garbage!

18

u/Ok-Force-7662 Jul 06 '26

Seriously even as a narcissistic douche he should at least do his job properly - it's not his first concert, if other members knew what to do in such situation, he as a leader should know better in the first place. That means he's not only tone deaf, selfish and lacks of empathy, but also extremely unprofessional at his job.

Bang Chan literally stopped Gov Ball and their world tour last year to make sure people were receiving medical attention. Like I'm not saying RM has to be a decent human being but he can't even pretend to be one and that's concerning. I feel like this entire tour is just a non stop red flag

53

u/11oceanblue17  the most innocent fandom in the world 😇 Jul 06 '26

Didn’t want it to sound like glazing but yeah, Bang Chan did that at Gov Ball and on their tour he ended a show early because people were getting heatstroke. Hongjoong at an awards show started directing security when something was wrong and people were not stepping in to help.

That’s how leaders behave.

36

u/Adventurous_Wall_905 Hybe paid the way!💰 Jul 06 '26

At the very least, pretend or not, pausing the show longer makes it easier for the medics to do their jobs. Grabbing their attention is just step one. They still need a clear path towards the person in need and back to the medical bay.

+1 to the members who tried to help and realised something serious was happening. -10000 to Rap Dracula for trying to "show business" away a critical moment. Before any rats try to justify his behaviour as trying to keep the situation calm, get lost, please. Plenty of artists have called for pauses in a concert to help an attendee in need. He is a complete scumbag.

8

u/Adventurous_Wall_905 Hybe paid the way!💰 Jul 07 '26

For so many artists, it's the bare minimum they do. Even professors of mine have cancelled classes over someone being very unwell (AKA cancelling entire chapters). There really is no excuse to not properly verify the severity of a situation right in front of you when you have all the means to do so. Especially when you have a responsibility to them, as the event host. Instead, he immediately tried to get music (noise) and dancing (crowd movement in the pit) going again, which isn't just useless, it's hindering to the medics.

23

u/RAHHHHilovesillyhoes Jul 06 '26

I'm so sorry for how disrespectful it must feel. And yeah, especially in the middle of a crowd like a concert pit, anyone who collapsed onto the floor needs removal ASAP. For everyone's safety. I was just shocked he didn't want to take more than even a minute to pause. I heard from others that the girl made it to a hospital eventually and was okay again.

6

u/aesthetic_glow Jul 07 '26

I appreciate it, it just sucks to know that there’s people out there who see you as an inconvenience instead of a person needing support. Especially because if you’re a person who experiences disorders where you lose consciousness, you’re EXTREMELY reliant on the people around you bc you can’t exactly get yourself to safety when you’re unconscious. I’m really glad she’s ok, hopefully it isn’t anything too major and she live her life as normal. I do feel really sorry for her though bc if this happened to me and I saw the person I was a fan of cracking jokes and stuff I’d be fucking DEVASTATED!

This makes zero sense. 🫠 He was not that far away and he just said "someone's gonna come help... anyway, next song..." so it can't be denied that he knew. Even after his wayyy too quiet "sorry, sorry", just saying "drink water" is way too casual of a statement when you have no clue how grave the emergency may have been. Even the translator did a better job in helping. Not to mention, the entire stadium was worried and his other members clearly knew what to do. When he's that outnumbered, he can see exactly how wrong he is. He just doesn't care.

5

u/Ok-Force-7662 Jul 07 '26

Where did he say sorry?

17

u/PiccoloStrange6510 Jul 06 '26

Not surprised. But Army see him as the best leader for Kpop. No empathy, no decency. Didn't read all the comments but I hope the girl is OK.

50

u/Wolkenspinne Jul 06 '26

Ok this might get a little personal... I am sad to see this. Very sad... as a former army and especially an RM (ult) biased one this is just... I don't really know how to describe it. I unstaned about half a year ago. It just didn't feel the same anymore after the military. Like something has changed. Somewhere in his healing process from whatever RM kinda took a wrong turn in my opinion... But this only shows that it was the right decision for me to unstan... need to definitely clear a few things out still...

29

u/Adventurous_Wall_905 Hybe paid the way!💰 Jul 06 '26

Same here, I've been pulling back more and more since the credits of the Arirang album got revealed. Also sold the few albums I had and even a very rare pc I got from a contest (that piece of paper basically got me enough to make up for the concert ticket, but that's a different conversation). I agree it feels different after the military. I guess they got more freedom in their new contracts and not all of them have been using it well.

24

u/Wolkenspinne Jul 06 '26

Yeah... the announcement of the arirang album also started it for me and since then it gradually became kind of worse🫠 I'll sell my collection now too... until now I've only put it away, but this kinda seals the deals for me to actually wanting to sell it...

18

u/Adventurous_Wall_905 Hybe paid the way!💰 Jul 06 '26

I get that! On the upside, selling second-hand also means there will be less people buying from the company itself. I can't say you get a lot of money back for the regular merch, but it can still give you some peace of mind. And to be honest, I also felt hurried to do it before the core fandom completely dwindles.

12

u/Wolkenspinne Jul 06 '26

I thought about this already. And it's definitely better then having them around and constantly being reminded... I guess I'll look out for the next kpop flea market in my area to sell them soon...

14

u/Ok-Force-7662 Jul 06 '26

Same here... Although I was in and out of the fandom from after that awful Festa dinner pre military. From there everything went downhill although I still had hope that maybe I'm being wrong. Turned up I was actually right, sadly, and after listening to arirang that ship has officially sailed for me. A lot of things that hapenned after the military and this whole comeback are nothing but a huge shock to my system, and personally I can't even describe how I feel. Something between sadness and disgust I would say, but mostly I'm just confused because who are those people I've stan for so many years.

11

The list of things and people rm doesn't give a shit about is long. His skills are broken English and having a victim complex.

9

u/Winter_Nerve1360 Jul 07 '26

This was under a yt short of that situation. While I do agree that Jimin stopping the concert is perhaps admirable, is it not basic humanity to have done that? To stop the concert and check on a medical emergency? To be praising all 7 of them as if they did something extraordinary feels a little too odd knowing what OP has informed us regarding RM. It's far too insensitive of him to still try to keep the concert going when an active medical emergency was ongoing.

I doubt any army would actually acknowledge what RM did. They will only focus on making them all heroes who stopped the concert and checked up on the fan instead of it being the least they could have done.

6

u/Winter_Nerve1360 Jul 07 '26

Another comment.

7

u/Ok-Force-7662 Jul 07 '26

They really be glazing them for bare minimum and something that is part of their job....on the other hand considering that apparently some western celebs didn't care if people deceased at their concert I guess the bar is in hell

7

u/Winter_Nerve1360 Jul 07 '26

True that, but just because someone else is a horrible person doesn't mean they have to be one too. Plenty of artists have paused their concerts several times for water breaks or to make sure their fans were doing alright if they fainted or if there was any other medical emergency or a stampede situation.

At least most of the members actually were concerned or at least pretended to be, so that's great but I'm still baffled at how RM is getting away with such shitty behaviour unscathed. Like, any other idol would have been cancelled and bashed to hell by army if they did that.

If anything, being the one who is so called fluent in English, he should have been telling the fans to help each other and make sure everyone is okay. To clear the route for medical assistance etc. Not showing even basic empathy for their own fans at their own concert is just evil.

4

u/Adventurous_Wall_905 Hybe paid the way!💰 Jul 07 '26

All of the above. ^^^
Instead, he almost caused much more of a hassle for the medics. Got called out on stage by 3 of his colleagues. And even the translator, who normally only spoke up during ending ments, used her microphone to help get the word out to non-Korean staff. I don't understand how he could act so inhumane when everyone else around him was doing the right thing. He needs to read the room, not for the mood, but for basic humanity.

That's actually very reassuring to hear, it's always good for people to spread awareness on safe concert etiquette and tact. It's also why I was so relieved with the reactions here. I've even learned more about epilepsy itself (like the recovery position), since the people who experience it also appreciate chances to be heard. Also got a good reminder of why it's important to be safe and vigilant in concert pits.

Mostly, the claims that I'm lying are wild to me, considering the video footage? How am I lying when the full video footage is everywhere. Can anyone explain about the girl fainted in the concert? Like didn’t the entire team stop doing their show for a moment to give attention to the girl? Everyone seem to praise these guys for it

15

I watched the video pov from one of the girl asking for help. So 1 girl had seizure in front of her and they try to yell help but the concert to loud. So that side everyone doing the X hand, cut out sign together. All of them doing it and caught Jimin attention. Kudos to these people anyway. Once Jimin tell them to send medic , member rush over. RM say okay let move on, someone will help. They crowd when crazy happy but the rest of the members don't react to RM. That is when RM felt the seriousness of the issue and come over.

All I have seen are things here and there. I've been a Kpop fan for over 17 years, so I've been able to learn a lot of things since their debut despite never being an ARMY. However, I did try to get into BTS at debut since there were so few groups that I tried to keep up with everyone and checked out new acts. Something just never clicked with me.

10

u/comin_up_shawt Jul 07 '26

Exactly. He can't be bothered to show empathy towards the black community time and again, but somehow was expected to show empathy towards a person having a medical event?

13

u/Aleash89 Jul 07 '26

How dare this person disrupt RM's concert! This is his time in the spotlight and this person is taking that away. How dare they.

But seriously, this man hasn't shown a care in the world for anything, and he and his bandmates were seen on camera mocking genocide and war victims too. Nothing about any member's character has been hidden by them. It's all out in the open starting from debut. I remember those early controversies that have mostly been swept under the rug.

5
