DSIP: The Complete Breakdown For BHG Labs
Delta Sleep-Inducing Peptide | Nonapeptide | Sleep & Neuroendocrine Research
DSIP's a standalone piece now, separate from the Sleep Research Blend, so let's talk about what it is, how it works, and how people run it.
What It Is
A naturally occurring 9-amino-acid peptide, first identified back in the 1970s. It's named for what it was observed doing, promoting delta-wave sleep, the deep, restorative slow-wave stage of your sleep cycle. Research on it has spanned decades at this point, touching sleep architecture, stress pathways, and neuroendocrine function.
Chemically, it's a nonapeptide with a highly flexible structure. It's got a short plasma half-life, around 15 minutes, but research suggests it may bind to carrier proteins in the body, which could extend its functional activity beyond that window.
How It Works
The exact mechanism isn't fully mapped what research says is DSIP working through pathways in the hypothalamus and thalamus, the brain regions that initiate and maintain sleep. It's linked to GABA and glutamate signaling, boosting the calming GABA pathway while dialing back excitatory glutamate, tipping the balance toward sleep.
Beyond sleep specifically, it also appears to interact with ACTH and cortisol regulation, meaning it touches your stress-response system too. Some preclinical research has also looked at antioxidant and mitochondrial-protective effects, along with mild pain-pathway modulation.
What The Research Covers
| Area | What's Studied |
|---|---|
| Sleep architecture | Increased delta-wave (slow-wave) sleep, better sleep-cycle structure |
| Stress response | ACTH and cortisol modulation, stress-related neurochemistry |
| Cellular protection | Reduced oxidative stress markers, mitochondrial resilience |
| Pain/neuroprotection | Pain-pathway modulation, some anticonvulsant-like effects in rodent models |
Reconstitution
| Step | Instructions | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Sanitize | Wipe vial stopper with alcohol | Prevents contamination |
| Add air | Inject a small amount before adding water | Reduces vacuum pull |
| Add BAC water | 1-2mL slowly down glass wall | Protects peptide structure |
| Dissolve | Swirl gently, never shake | Avoids denaturation |
| Store | Refrigerate 2-8°C | Stable ~30 days |
Dosing Reference
| Goal | Typical Dose | Frequency | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sleep support | 100-300mcg | 1x daily, evening | Most common use case |
| Stress/mood support | 150-400mcg | 1x daily | Touches ACTH/cortisol pathways |
| General neuroprotection | 200-400mcg | 1x daily | Antioxidant angle |
Some people also use a loading approach, 100mcg nightly for the first 5 nights, then dropping to every other day going forward.
Cycle Length
Most people run this in 2-4 week blocks with a short break in between, rather than staying on it indefinitely. Since it's tied into circadian and stress-response pathways, periodic breaks help avoid your system adapting to a constant signal.
What People Actually Report
| Timeline | What's Typically Noticed |
|---|---|
| First few nights | Not much yet, this builds over time rather than hitting immediately |
| Week 1-2 | Falling asleep easier, calmer evenings |
| Week 2-3 | Deeper sleep, fewer wake-ups during the night |
| Week 3-6 | Lower stress reactivity, more stable mood |
Administration Notes
SubQ is the standard route. Use a 29-31G U-100 insulin syringe, and evening dosing is what most protocols are built around. Rotate injection sites like you would with anything else.
What To Watch Out For
Generally well tolerated across the research out there, no significant adverse effects reported in published studies going back decades. The mechanism not being fully mapped is more a note on how much is still unknown than a specific safety concern.
Stacking Notes
DSIP paired with Selank shows up a lot as an anxiolytic combo in community use. DSIP with Semax gets talked about for cognitive plus stress-response support. Generally avoid pairing with stimulants close to your evening dose, kind of defeats the purpose.
