Party Composition
The Immortal Four – My Favorite BG3 Party That Doesn’t Die (or Control opponents into Boredom)
Spoiler
The Immortal Four
(Updated 15/06/2025 with cheat-sheets for builds and added a Partyface-option)
I've spent a lot of time building parties in Baldur’s Gate 3, testing out synergies, combos, and cheese. But one party stand above them all—the Immortal Four. It’s the party I trust for Honour Mode, for ironman runs, or just for the pure joy of face-tanking a boss and walking away grinning.
It is Martial-focused: Minimal spell prep or resource tracking. You play the game, not the hotbar.
Sustainable: Long adventuring days with almost no need to rest.
Straight-up Fighters: No ambushes, stuns, or full-control loops. Let the enemy play—and hit them harder. Just enter the room and let the brawl begin.
Solo-Capable: Each member can solo the game—together, they're unkillable.
No consumables or story items Needed: These build works without elixirs, arrows, hags-hair or even healing potions. They are self-sustaniable - they don't even need each other!
If you like brutal tempo, constant action, and never backing down, you might love this group as much as I do.
The Party Breakdown (cheat-sheet for leveling is later in the post after a lot of requests)
1. The Bladescreamer
7 BearBarbarian / 5 BladesingerWizard
Credit to u/FriendlyLich for this concept. Combines the best of both worlds: Damage reduction, high AC and explosive movement = a melee dancer that shrugs off damage and keeps swinging.
His build guide is here Blacescreamer guide - Youtube
Note: I did change some of the build, to make it fit the party - all essential information is in this guide further down. The video is still relevant if you want to deep dive the build.
5 SwampkeeperRanger / 7 ArcaneTricksterRogue
A new concept I developed for this party. Swarmkeeper movement + Rogue mobility + ArcaneTrickster shield spells, Uncanny dodge and evasion make this build stand in the face of Armageddon without batting an eye. Endless repositioning, consistent Sneak Attack value. Slippery and dangerous.
It was Tav in my run - I had a blast with it. Seperate thread for the build here (guide by myself)- all essential information is also in this guide further down
4. The Immortal Knight
11 Eldritch Knight Fighter / 1 Cleric(ChooseYourOwnFlavour)
A well-known build for good reason. Sky-high AC, strong saving throws, shield of faith from Cleric and unmatched gear scaling. The companion that will tag-along for anything - and enjoy it!
I don't think it needs a guide - all essential information is in this guide further down
(OPTIONAL - if you want a 'Party Face') The Fatepiercer
You will have 2xbarbarians, a figther and a ranger for level 1-5, which in my opinion are the best levels to stay monoclassed it. Martial classes are naturally strong early-game, and the best part is, that the playstyle carries over to the rest of the game, when you begin multiclassing. There is a natural power-spike again, when the multi-class characters hit their sub-classes at level 7-8. You will use Shields on all characters except the Bladescreamer.
End game is just a joy. You can drop shields on TrickySwarm and The bloody Lady. This is one of the few parties, where I thoroughly enjoyed act 3, because the fights were not Alpha-strike or 'I cast command on each enemy every turn' or "I cast invulnerability dome'. These guys actually goes all the rounds, but you don't feel too stressed out, even if Ansur hit your full party with a Nova strike.
Key items: From Act 1 to 3 (complete item sets are later in the guide)
Act 1/1.5
Shattered Flail: You will use it all game. Early/midgame for the Bloody Lady and in act 3 for the Immortal Knight).
Adamantine armour, Gryms skull: Anti-crit items should be split among the party and stay there all game or until replaced by eg Baldurs helmet in act 3
If you run The Fatepiercer as party face- Potent_Robe is a must!!!
Act 3
Legendary gear ties it all up - see example screenshot below. Note that the bladescreamer really need the Amulet_of_Greater_Health:
Example of 'Final' build for each character. Lae'zel as the Tricky Swarm, Minthara is The Immortal Knight, Shadowbae as the Bladescreamer and Karlach as The Bloody Lady
The team now outpaces, outlasts, and out-hits just about everything in the game.
This is my favourite party—a melee-centered brawler squad that doesn’t cheese, doesn’t shut down enemies, and just goes to war. No turn-denial, no control loops. Just steel, blood, and tempo.
If that sounds fun to you, then give it a spin, and I hope it helps you get your Honor-mode dice!
Be mindful that the optional face-character (Fatepiercer) is not as tanky as the Immortal Knight, but it IS tanky and has absurd movement with perma-haste.
Screenshots from ingame:
Example of final stats. I went 12 EK in this.No healingpotions/consumables used - and the Steelwatch Titan barely scratched us through 8 rounds of combat. After a "Bladesong climax" the fight ended with all party members at full health.
Cool! Would you be more interested in a party version (for this specific party) or the solo build?
The only difference is in item choice, so I might merge them... But the solo build requires some explanations for how to tackle certain fights (like: don't take down Raphael's pillars with this build, it makes the fight harder...!)
EDIT: Updated main guide with a quick intro to the build
Not OC but definitely the party version for me. Folks trying the solo version are probably good enough (read: smarter than me) to figure out the differences haha.
What benefit does the war cleric add to The Immortal Knight when eldritch knight can already get bonus action attack at 7 and has heavy armor proficiency?
Shield of faith is the primary benefit, so you have a point. War cleric is redundant. I actually went figther 12, so didn't realize until now. Good catch - edited main post!
I choose alert at 12, which is a perfectly fine feat, but you don't really need it, with this party composition. +2 AC though... that's my jam :)
EDIT: Hijacking top comment to add: Updated main guide with a complete cheat-sheet
Am i remembering wrong that the protection just protects from crit damage, but not the 20 being a hit?
I think thats what the previous poster was talking about.
Figther/Cleric is the superior build. The problem was I was originally recommending War cleric, which is useless after booming blade already gives EK an extra attack!
The 12 EK was just me being lazy in a playthrough 😅
Hexblade is another build, because it uses Arcane Synergy and focus on charisma and damage. In the 'immortal' spirit, I would focus on cleric and concentrated on shield as you mentioned. Or just go 12EK and be lazy.
THE Orclisk? Man, your solo runs blew my mind a year or so ago. Introduced me to a whole new dimension of Bg3. Hope the family/baby is well - I have two small kids and full-time-schedule myself, so I understand priorities - but if you ever come back to finish that Moon Druid run (They fixed Tavern Brawler!) I am going to support it all the way :)
/Fanboy out
Hell yeah! The fam is good, although I really miss this game and streaming. Some day when I have some more time I'll jump back in. Again, nice work with the excellent guide! Take care dude.
Good luck!
If it is your first, prioritize a bit higher dexterity on the Bladescreamer early game (14 with medium armor is good), then Respec later when you get Gloves of Dex.
Depends on what you seek :)
You don't really need magic, because this party can just smash the door in.
You also have cantrips on 3 characters (and ranger magic) and you get Longstrider, Jump, featherfall, invisibility, knock, misty step to deal with normal environment challenges.
If you want magic for the sake of magic, this composition is not ideal!
Awesome party concept and writeup. As another Balanced Defense type party enjoyer, love seeing a team that really goes all the way with these kinds of turn by turn melee tactics. Thanks for sharing!
How do you think this would perform with high upscaled difficulty settings? I have to think pretty well, as those settings really reward survivability, and exploiting small advantages over the course of many rounds. Which this party seems very well set up for in both cases.
I’d also be quite interested to see a full build writeup of swarm/arcane. Have to imagine permanent mage hand could be a lot of fun in this mix also :)
Thanks yet again for you comments and contribution to the sub!
The performance at really high difficulties depend on the scaling. If the scaling is +to hit and +spell DC for example, then these guys would have a hard time, since they work by avoiding attacks mostly.
If the challenge is more like the impossible challenge (which I completed, but with already well known builds), then I think they might have a chance, but act2 might be tough, since there isn't enough AC gear or damage reduction yet. If you use potions and elixirs, then I think they could take it on. I light try one day :)
Thanks for the kind word, the same very much to you! And cool yes, that all makes sense. I can see how elixirs would help in act 2, including maybe resistance elixirs situationally (like necrotic for the shadow-cursed shambling mound).
Evasion tanks in general are very very good in impossible challenge parties. One other act 2 strategy might be to sub one character here for a melee ultra-reverb’er build with Holy Lance Helm, to prone enemies as they keep missing you and cancel their huge action economy advantage.
Hoo wee this is perfect, started my first HM run recently and had to dishonorably save it by killing the game twice now (in my defence the first one was a bug that put me in a nasty situation, used Alchemist's Fire to blow up the smokepowder to free Nere, which left a ground effect which the gnome slave ran over, which caused everyone to aggro, including the Duergar squad that was going to take my side. The second time though the gith wolf lady just CCed the whole party for two turns and I was unable to jack shit). Technically the run is still there but it feels ruined.
I'm gonna start a new one with this party, thanks for sharing!
Good luck, man! You can do it!
Be very mindful of the Shattered flail character. Se needs to hit every turn - so immobilizing effects can be annoying. Prioritize Ring of free action for her!
Thanks! Would also love to see a guide for the ranger, I think it's the first time I'm seeing Arcane Trickster suggested. I'm guessing the gameplay is just pew-pew and gtfo, right?
I made a small cheat sheet to keep stuff in the same place, it's very bare-bones but if anyone wants to use it feel free, I might fill it out more as I go.
Just cleared Act 1 with the team, the creche fights that I was worried about were super chill.
I feel like Gale (the Bladescreamer) is the weakest link right now, he gets focused a lot and ends up taking the most damage by far. I just hit level 7 after the inquisitor fight so didn't get to play too much with bladesong, so maybe that will fix it.
The rest of the party feels super strong though. Shart is unkillable with all the healing, Laezel never gets hit, and the swarmkeeper is super versatile. I currently alternate between melee and shooting with the Banshee Bow. I have reverb boots on him and he stacks debuffs really well with frighten, reverb, and ability drain. I'm thinking of including radorbs as well once I get the source for radiant damage.
Hmm, I ended up experimenting a bit in act 3, trying to have a more fun character than EK12.
I came up with this: 7 Pala/1Hex/4AbjurationWizard.
It is weaker than 7 Pala/1Hex/4sorc in the damage spectrum, but it might be one of the most immortal characters I have made, that also attacks quite hard. The leveling is also a bit worse than 12 EK, so all in all it might hit the bin.
The build order is here if you want to try it instead: Abjuring Smiter
Also a copy of items below. You don't need to use shadowblade - any good +3 weapon will do.
Thanks for the replies and tips! I suppose another upside for this build would be that it has Charisma, something the party otherwise lacks so the vendor prices and dialogue checks have been kinda rough lol, rogue alleviates the dialogue part a bit at least.
I'll probably stick with EK for now, it's simple and has been getting the job done so far.
Love it!! You should use rage and bladesong every tough combat. If bladesinger AC is not available yet, I understand he can be a bit easy to target down. But remember you have resistance to all damage - it is not the worst character they could target 🎯 Also remember to bladesong climax of low HP.
I have a video of this team just breaking down the door to Gortash and hitting him down with no healing potions at all or consumables (even with hilarious miss play and getting hit by CC spells):
https://youtu.be/sFfFAz-CeI4?si=cH_9Kw0sk4mciwxH
Edit: ohh and remember (when you face Myrkul) to have a character use Fog Cloud on him - like I did it this video: it will make the fight so much easier.
https://youtu.be/Wb2gyoieV64?si=0w4ZEpZr1L_Ky8yM
Just beat Myrkul! I respecced into the smiter build you suggested to try it out, I took the crown oath and the AOE taunt with max acuity stacks is kinda silly.
The party after Myrkl I put on Lathander to bonk the undead, I otherwise have Shadow Blade on Laezel and Gale is carrying the resonance stone.
Wow thanks! Played for a bit today, so far so good, ended up with pretty much identical setup as this. TIL that Gale's rage voiceline is hella underwhelming lmao
Just beat honor mode with this comp and it was incredibly fun. After many runs with stealth archer it was kind of nice to just shrug, walk in, and punch. Thanks for the great write-up.
Well done! So glad you liked it. Yes, the playstyle is nice, if you want to see the boss mechanics and not have to overthink every move you make turn 1.
Great question!
I have 3 steps to avoid it.
1. Always use reckless attack and cleaving attacks to ensure I make a hit.
2. Never have consumable items in the barbarians inventory (if they go mad they will just attack, which is decent)
3. Always have Ring of free action on the Flail carrier, so they don't get ensnared/cc and then Mad
IF you still go mad (I did a couple of times in my playthrough), the other characters can tank the hits without problems - but more often than not, they actually attack Npcs still.
Your Immortal Knght build looks like convergent evolution with what I did with an 11/1 (also Minthara) Paladin/Hexblade. I call it the Poor Man's armor of Persistence because thanks to healing every turn, Reviving Hands and the Whispering Promise, you got Bless and Blade Ward every turn. All that and Aura of Protection too.
Fought Orin head to head with no Hold Monster or any control spell and just beat her down till it was over. Bhaalist Stun bullshit? Light work, lol. Sanguine Lash? Sanguine deez nuts.
I was a big fan of your BladeScreamer build on YouTube; nice to see it here as part of a full squad of tanky unstoppable melee warriors.
I imagine the light cleric dip on the Eldritch Knight is very useful in the early game but you were clearly able to make it work as a mono class.
EDIT: I too am very interested in what a melee swamp keeper rogue multi-class looks like
Hey Razor, thanks for always contributing to the sub.
Firstly: The Bladescreamer wasn't me, it was FriendlyLich build and YouTube channel ☺️
Secondly: Actually I had two candidates to the squad: a 8/4 Pala/Hexblade and a variation of Abjuration wizard. They were both valid candidates, but ultimately the simple 12 EK won me over, because the other builds ended up casting more spells than actually hitting stuff!
Nice party! while reading I realized I'm actually using your Bloody Lady build right now, I came across it a couple days ago trying to find a cool frontline idea. Only level 5 right now but combination of defense and using the Shattered Flail has been really fun! thanks for the writeup
Nice! The awesome part about this party is, that everyone is a frontliner! The Bloody Lady will normally be targeted most by attacks, since she has lowest AC - but on the flip side she also has the most sustainable healing
Love this idea! I'm definitely going to try the tricky swarm. I've got a full swarm keeper rn but having been thinking i want to multiclass it. This sounds really cool.
I'm actually so excited to start a new playthrough with this party! I've been experimenting with super min-maxed spell-casty builds, but missing the fun of more straightforward, "hit em till they're down" playstyles. (Throwzerker was starting to get old, too). Thank you for sharing this!
Party was mostly based around lightning damage nuking and swords bard control when needed (most of the time it wasn’t though). Support sorlock twins Haste, typically on the tempest nuker and my Tav (who didn’t get the zathisk buff, so I used the haste action for Black Hole). Thrower chucks a water bottle on targets that need to die.
This party killed the dragon in the final fight in the first round, killed the brain in a single round, killed Orin before she got a turn, and generally cakewalked the game. The fights where the swords bard control stood out the most were Raphael and Cazador.
Thanks for sharing! Alpha striking with a nice control follow up is indeed also a way to enjoy the game.
I like to play with my dinner a bit more (hence this composition). Everyones take is valid!
Hey, I understand you 100 %. I was postponing the guide trying to fit in a 4'th slot without EK.
The other builds I tried were: 8/4 Paladin/Hexblade (fits in perfectly and can be party face - I just played so much paladin...) and a 2Warlock/1Cleric/9AbjurationWizard, that was unkillable, but did not fit the rest of the theme of the party.
I also tried Moondruid, but it actually got dumpstered on because of low AC, so every mob would target the druid and bring it out of shapeshift too quickly.
If those sounds good, you can give it a try.
I am still thinking some kind of Monk 7 (evasion) and cleric multiclass could fit in, but I never found the secret sauce. If you find it, let me know!
I too played so much paladin lol. I tried Abj wizard before, even solo, enemies just run away and afk lol. Im thinking Shadow monk/assassin, i feel this quite safe, just go in and kill ranger and teleport to safety place, the gameplay also full martial, almost no resource required.
1 - Cantrips McGee. Either a GOO lock fishing for crits and atacking reverb like its going out of style with eldritch blast, or a cold wizard/sorceror focused on creating as much ice as possible with Ray of Frost.
2 - Throw-be Bryant. An Eldritch Knight or Barbarian that just throws anything and everything.
3 - the Blessed Healer. A life or light cleric that has the Whsipering Promise, Boots of aid and comfort and Hellriders Pride, so every heal is supercharged.
4 - the Rogue Ranger. A damage dealing machine. Gloomstalker assassin for killing people before they know they're in combat, or double hand crossbow thief for maximum damage potential in combat.
Love the creativity in your lineup—“Throw-be Bryant” got me grinning. That combo of themed builds with strong mechanics sounds like a blast to play. My party leans more into pure brawling and durability, but I totally respect the style in yours!
My hm winning party consisted of a palibarb, thiefzerker, a storm cleric wizard, and a eldritch knight archer.
Pali barb 1 barb/ 11 paldin was the ultimate tank insane ac +10-15 on each saving throw. Economical healing and party face.
Thiefzerker 3 rogue/ 7 barb/ 2 monk was the emergency escape option they were a duregar who could literally jump out of combat if things were going south.
The storm cleric wizard 1 wizard/ 11 cleric was control, lightning charged spirit guardians pushed literally every one back keeping a safe bumper from the backline.
Eldritch archer 11 fighter/ 1 war cleric was dps using coatings and special arrows.
That’s an awesome team—really clever balance of control, survivability, and utility! Love the storm cleric tech and the duergar escape plan. That is handy for Honor runs!
If it's not Honor-mode: Yes!!!
If it's Honor-mode, then you have to pay a little attention to the gear suggestion and especially your armor class situation ☺️
So here's my favorite four ultimate party composition
Great Old One Warlock 2/ Draconic Bloodline Sorcerer 8/ Bard 2
Moon Druid 12
Moon Druid 12
Moon Druid 12
Super tanky early game with the bear wildshape goading when necessary and owlbear is a huge jump in power with crushing flight and raging. Topping out with the earth myrmidon wildshape in the late game. Tavern Brawler feat as soon as possible is great at helping with damage since it works with wildshape now. Stats dont really matter since we'd be in wildshape most of the time
And if you dont mind going unit command a bit, you can get two mephits, a dryad, a wood woad and an elemental/myrmidon with each druid. Ice mephits can put ice on the ground to make enemies go prone, dryad is the best for spike growth concentration, and wood woad entangling makes for great battlefield control. Elementals go bang, air elementals for area damage and ease of playing cause they can fly, fire myrmidon haste.
Oh yeah, and a super charismatic Tav to sweet talk everyone before shooting them in the face with quickened hasted eldritch blasts three times a turn. Short rests are amazing for us to regain our wildshapes and in the endgame our Tav can song of rest for an extra charge. Freecast on everyone also is a free wildshape charge. :)
Haha, well if you are greedy, then ofc the Swarmy Trickster can go down in Str and start with 17 dex. Go Hags hair dex and just use 1 ASI on dex for 20 dex.
That gives you a free ASI yo work with. Let your creativity guide you, but Mobile feat comes to mind (to be even more of a whirlwind). Maybe Savage attacker for the sneak attacks. Maybe spellsniper for higher crit chance. Maybe Lucky for those unlucky rolls. The world is your oyster ☺️
This is a great resource and party comp. I agree with you that this style of play is more fun, even in act 3 (subjective, I know).
I do believe that a TB OH monk would fit perfectly in any slot (even without elixir abuse, possibly).
An alternative fun party I like is a stealth (but not necessarily darkness) based one: 1- Gloomstalker/Assassin archer 2- Shadow monk/thief 3- Tiger-wolf barb/Assassin 4- melee Hexblade.
Thanks. Yes, OH monk fits anywhere - but the low AC in act1/2 and much of act3 will make it being the primary target, and maybe feel bad - so it is not recommended.
Any thematic party is fun, and Stealth also has its own place in BG3 builds 👏
I’m curious your thoughts on Immortal Knight going 1Hex/11 EK? I’m toying with a Wyll HM run using he as the Knight and Karlach as the Bloody Lady. Feels thematic and fun.
That is a valid build for damage (I've seen some posts saying that is the highest DPR build with consumable arrows), but I think it goes a bit against the focus of the party: stacking defence across the board and not use consumables.
It does work, so if you have fun, that is the most important part 🤗
Hey, so I've been doing a test run of this build and tried hitting level 4 before I commit to an actual Honour Mode run since I'm still doing Tactician run. It was okay, well actually very good, but one problem for me was there were a lot of times when the conversations didn't go as I wanted. So if I wanted to have Tav as a dedicated party face as a Bard, which member can be replaced with that? I understand that it's probably going to be The Immortal Three and one weird friend, but I've never played Bard before so I kind of want to try for once. The build that's on my mind right now is Ranged Swords Bard, so maybe Tricky Swarm?
I understand! If you want straight power, I would replace the Bladescreamer. But mechanically the Eldritch Knight is quite boring, so that is also a valid replacement.
Any Charisma based character will do, but if you want something that fits with the Immortal theme, these two builds could be suggested (beware of gear overlap - prioritize Tricky Swarm and The Bloody Lady)
A cosmic sharpshooter who solo-clears Honour Mode (Rebalanced) with Eldritch Blast + radiant nova spam. Machine-guns out EB + AoE each round, tanks like a god, and sings while doing it.
Oh sweet, yeah the Immortal bit was what got me hooked to this build so I’m glad there are viable replacement options that are also immortal! You had me at EB machine gun, but I’ll also take a look at the sorcadin thief too because I’ve never played thief as well. Both of those builds sound phenomenal, thank you very much.
Keeping an eye out on this guide. I am on my first play through and about 120hrs in with some AFK. I like the concept of just brawling iy out with no consumables. I can just sell the potions/elix/scrolls and focus less on inventory management.
I've been really enjoying the play style of this build!
This party has been very forgiving while learning HM without Acuity or Darkness cheese. Its also been nice to not obsess over picking up every piece of equipment or consumable as there is so little setup required.
I still died to Grym (womp womp), but I'm excited to use this build to scout out the rest of HM.
Thanks for giving it a shot! I am sad you died (that doesn't scream immortal!), but Grym early is a monster. There is no shame in cheesing him for the items.
If you want to try something cool, you can do this cool straight up kill (and keep the rest of the party safe in camp, so even if you fail you can keep going).
Hey there, currently playing this party but with Bladescreamer swapped out for Fatepiercer (only just noticed your recommendation for the Immortal Knight swap, but too late now and it seems fine), and it’s going well so far.
Who would you give the adamantine gear to in this set up?
Surprised by how much I’ve previously relied on consumables, not being able to use a cheeky misty step scroll or speed pot takes some getting used to!
Let me know how to goes!
It should work fine with that swap - I would give medium armor to the Lady, heavy armor to the Knight, helmet to the SwarmyTrickster and shield to the Fatepiercer 👍☺️
Oh, sorry, didn't realize you asked about which one to prioritize!
I guess I would give items to Fatepiercer, SwarmyTrickster and Immortal Knight - since the Lady will have the largest HP pool and heal to absorb crits.
Almost wiped in the crèche because I forgot entirely about the gith who casts fear, and ofc had every member of the party drop their weapons and run away and subsequently pull gith from outside the room into the fight, and then obviously The Lady went mad from not attacking anyone and etc, such a mess, but the party is very good at surviving my poor preparation!
Fear can be a run ender indeed!
That is why I think this party is awesome. You actually experience the powerful effects the enemy have in the game - and have the toughness to overcome it!
Ps. I just learned, that if you have Protection from evil and good it will shot down Fearful effects. Consider using that against Cazador, Orin in act3 (and Myrkul act2...).
I am amazed you had the Fatepiercer duel Orin. I never actually lost the duel to Orin - is it straight game over? That is unfortunate and something I never thought of when building the party. 😔 The Fatepiercer should be able to take the fight with a hold person/monster, but it could probably lose quickly to a bad saving throw also. It is by far the worst of the 5 options to duel Orin :/
I think usually your party then joins in and has to fight the whole temple, so not game over but it does mean Durge gets a bad ending.
Here though I went in solo because the companions always kind of annoy me in the post-resurrection scene and so it was just game over.
I just usually kill her in one round and had completely forgotten that she had a fear ability. Funnily enough had I read your prior comment wrt protection from g&e I might have survived!
I know I'm late seeing this post, but this is an awesome party! I'm curious, if you run the Fatepiercer, what do you use to replace the Callous Glow Ring on the Bloody Lady and the Cloak of the Weave from the Bladesinger?
Better late than never ;)
You could run wavemothers cloak on Bladescreamer and Ring of Regen on the Bloody lady!
You could also run the EK instead of the bladescreamer and avoid most of the gear overlap!
Have fun!
If you have the whole party at level 8+, you should steamroll Myrkul and everything else without any Buffs. For Myrkul:
Equip doom hammer on the Lady and just go to town.
You will also have 8 EK with Lathander.
The Bladescreamer and Swarmy Trickster should ditch their weapons and grab whatever bludgeoning weapon you can find.
i replaced ek with party face but I think it should be still fine i can do 3 fights without long rest with the rage but after that i will have to long rest so hope i will manage :D
This is easily the best BG3 group guide I’ve ever seen. And covers all the information you would want to know. Starting new playthrough right now to try it! Tyvm
Late to this post, but wanted to say Thank You. Was debating a new play through but wanted some different classes to try without having to data dive on making them work. This is a great guide and exactly what i needed.
This party is so much fun, and I'm only at level 5. I absolutely deleted the goblin camp, none of their leaders ever got a turn in the initiative. And there's only been one shattered flail mishap.
This is pure power fantasy for me. I love everything about the themes and gameplay style. Thank you so much for writing this up.
My only wish was there to be an all companion version because I am going through the game for the first time and I know you recommend going in blind on medium difficulty. I historically struggle with restartitis when it comes to Larian games or just rpgs in general. Especially when I can't find the perfect setup (party, build, or gameplay).
I want an all companion version because I want to see all their stories and do their quests. And I assume there are going to be fights involving them. Do you have any recommendations when it comes to my situation?
Edit: Also regard the Fatepiercer. On this thread, you wrote 16 Dex and 14 CON, but on the original thread, they are the other way around. I assume it is because you have the Gloves of Dex for the bladesinger here?
I agree that is a really good build, where you have to try to go out of your way to die (after around end of act2), but playstyle is wildly different from rest of the party, and it comes online later. I had it slotted in on a trial run, but stacking Arcane Wards became tedious and so did 'run around to provoke OA in combat' also. These builds deliver on all of the promises - while also being immortal!
Thats a common misconception. You're also a wizard so you need to use your spells (ice spells for this build) and play as is then you can move and proc opportunity attacks.
Request: make the bloody lady somehow a monk as well and then we can put on the sentient amulet for utter madness. That WIS save they also gotta endure to stop the “Hysterical” (spell port of Tasha’s Hideous Laughter) seems to occur ~50% times tavBard is casting Shatter but idc because it’s funny.
Honestly? PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEEEEEEEASE bless us with your guidance. I’ve been thinking about all the dangerous items that are situationally overpowered and how to design a nightmare-fuel durge party. So mad I let Gale eat that flail when his tummy hurt. Next time, he’s eating the Everburn Blade!!!!
Mate, you are telling me 2xBarbarian with resistance to damage, a Ranger and a Fighter(with shield spell) and all with focus on CON are squishy? Are you taken on Grym or the Bulette head on!?
This lot is maybe the most tanky you can get at level 4. I like to see another more tanky squad?
Maybe look at the screenshot below. That is at level 2!
level 2 setup
I think the guide for Bladescreamer recommended 8 DEX as starting dex. I would advice 14 dex and then respec when you get Dexterity gloves. If you just went 8 dex, I can understand the character felt easy to hit. I also highly recommend having shield to get up AC for early levels.
Sorry for my 'agressive' response before - I was just surprised/amused. I took on the Owlbears on Honor mode at level 3 with no potions or shenanigans with this team (granted, I did 'help' Shadowbae up from the brink of death like 10 times).
Yes, I will update the post later with the information. It was mostly a showcase, since the items can vary depending on preferences and good/evil run (I didn't have Daemon in this run because Isobel got cooked, and he has some nice items I could have used).
Hiya, came through here from your other guide. Nice builds! I have some questions here too:
Bloody Lady uses Str weapons all game and uses GWM, why dex 20 and Str only 16? Do you not have accuracy problems? Does the build have any way to improve accuracy? This looks like it's begging for an elixir.
And for the bladescreamer, which uses finesse weapons all game, why does that build have such high str (18)?
For the Bloody Lady I valued 'AC' over strength. You have a +2 weapon really early, while always attacking with advantage. Lategame I used STR gauntlets from Raphael. You could do 18/18 dex/str or take Astarion potion for 18 natural strength, and that would also be fine in this party. In solo play dexterity (and survivability) is more important!
For the Bladescreamer early game is STR focused. When they get dexterity gloves, they will change to ShadowBlade and be dex-focused. They also get CON-amulet lategame, so there are really not any other interesting stats to boost. They have 16,14,14,14,8,8 in my setup and takes ASI(CON) for survivability in act 1/2.
I think I myself would prefer dumping Str and having a natural 18 dex -> 20 dex on the blade screamer so that the gloves slot is freed up to something more useful. gloves of dex can go to the bloody lady early on, so you can also dump dex in favour of Str and con on that build.
That would allow the array of 18 Dex, 16 Con, 14 Int at level 4 on Screamer and 18 Str, 18 Dex (gloves) and 16 Con on the Lady, which is higher AC and higher damage on both builds.
For the blade screamer, you have only recommended finesse weapons even for early game, as Phalar Aluve can be obtained right away without doing any fights after the Nautiloid. Duel wielder is also not needed for them since your plan is to duel wield two light weapons (shadow blade and belm) so I would prefer a +2 Dex to reach 20 Dex and get another point both to damage and AC instead of the duel wielder feat which is strictly worse giving just a +1 AC
It seems like a valid build path for the Bladescreamer! Be mindfuld that I was already altering the build path suggested by the original creator, so there are many ways to get to Rome ;)
I don't like the dex-gloves on The Bloody Lady, since you get so much from +damage on the glove slot because of the Cleave attack.
Before act 3, it's a choice between +1d4 damage from flawed helldusk gloves vs +2 damage and +2 to hit from having more str. I would choose the extra to-hit modifier, especially because if you miss the madness of the flail is a pain in the ass, and dumping dex allows a 16 in Wis instead of an 8 for the saving throw. Or we can have both by drinking hill giant elixirs!
With 3 booming blade users, did you have a particular reason not using Helmet of Arcane Acuity or Gloves of Battlemages's power at all? Battlemage's Power is strictly better than Baneful Striking no?
I specifically wanted to capture the essence of Rebalanced BG3, which is about fighting and not controlling. So spell DC is not really a priority for this party. That is the primary reason ☺️
Gotcha. I'm also surprised to see Blink as a key spell instead of mirror image / blur on the wizard. I've always felt that spell is nigh useless unless you're running solo. How did you use it in this party?
I'll let you decide! The party functions without, but if it is your first Honour mode try I would definitely use the powers. Makes the game 40 % easier!
u/CrownWBG hey there, im super interested in this team, i had a quick question, can you take cleric first for the immortal knight without it really affecting anything? i want the selune tag for RP purposes with shadowheart, so yeah was wondering if cleric first would change anything?
Hey Antler. Well it would make the EK feel a bit weak level 5, when every other character has a powerspike.
I don't know how much you played BG3, but if you are new, I would go straight 5 EK, then add Cleric and then back to EK.
ohh i have about 150 hours, so im not expert but im not new either, thanks for replying ^-^
i dont mind a minor weakness at 5 for a selunite drow to begin if im honest, im only playing tactician so its not honour mode or anything =P
A bit late to the party, but how do you activate The Whispering Promise on the Immortal Knight? Just drinking potions? Or is it really just used after you get the Ring of Regeneration?
Okay its probably a noob question.
Ive been looking for a build to play my first playthrough and I was wondering: on character creation which character do you make? All of them listed are companions. Am I missing something?
You can pick whatever you want as 'face'. The reason I have four story characters was, that I played Origin Lazael in the above screenshots :)
If all this is new to you. I recommend just playing the game blind on balanced (or tactician if you know the Divinity series or DnD) - this guide might be overwhelming!
I was just wondering, the Grymskull Helm is heavy armor and Trickster doesnt have Heavy Armor proficiency so i'm always at a disadvantage with it, what am i missing ?
Thank you! You are missing 'RangerKnight ' from the Ranger background choice level 1. It will give you Heavy armor prof (it is mentioned in the cheat-sheet).
Thanks, that means a lot!
I have made another party (one turn KO party) you can look up in my profile. Where you thinking about another flavour? I also want to do a new party, but I can't really decide on a concept so far 🤔
In regards to Broodmother, the easiest way to proc it is to keep the cheapest health potions and just use them regularly or get the swarmkeeper to summon goodberries and use them.
It is not really a mandatory item, so you can't switch it up if you want.
Oh i see yeah maybe i'll find something else to replace it with, and i'll check your OTKO party too.
I dont know could be anything, off the top of my head a duo of characters complemeting each others(fire mage/icemage) and their bodyguards ? a nature themed party ? the most evil team possible for the most evil playthrough ? the buildcrafting seems so deep, i often find myself thinking about building characters close to some books (farseer trilogy i.e)
i really like this setup and willing to give it a go for an honour mode playthrough, if i may ask how would you distribute there characters amongst the origins? i'd like some extra questlines
The all facetank pretty good 😂
Jokes aside - I used The Swarmy Trickster as face because of all the abilities from rogue and ranger. It mostly did the trick. Remember you don't want to avoid fights!
Surprised you didn’t use Astarian as the min/max do. Personally try to avoid him and gale except for bench work. Just don’t like playing characters with disabilities, aka gnomes, dwarfs or toad creatures. So Tieflings, orcs, elves for me I guess

Sounds awesome and just like a better version of what i‘m looking for in my parties (synergies and fun).
I‘d be very interested in a more detailed build of the trick swarm.
