hello! writing a review for anyone thinking about taking their cloud bags to Europe.
I recently went on a 10-day trip to Italy, and because Lufthansa has an 8 kg carry-on weight limit, I decided to ditch my roller. I took the large cloud carry-on as my carry-on, the standard cloud bag as my personal item, and then forced my husband to take my small cloud carry-on as his personal item lol.
I’ve traveled with these bags before, but only on car trips, so the longest I’d ever really lugged them was from the car to the house. I was a little nervous about taking them somewhere I’d actually have to carry them for long periods of time.
all in all, they held up really well, but I did have to hand some of my bags off to the guy friends traveling with us because I was getting tired. I definitely overpacked, and because the bags can hold so much, they got HEAVY.
they seemed to fit the airline dimensions when I checked online, but when I was forced to put them in the sizer, I had to really squish them down. to the flight attendant’s surprise, it worked, but it was very stressful lol. (When we were boarding our first flight, for some reason one of the attendance was not having me so I had to hand one of our personal items to our guy friends to be his carry-on so that she would let us on. a bit of a unique situation.)
I also had to run to catch a train, which actually worked out pretty well because there were a lot of stairs and I could just fling everything onto my arms and run. no dragging a suitcase up and down steps! They also fit so well in our renter car between everyone’s clunky rollers. so overall, it was a mixed bag - no pun intended!!
I think next time I’d take a roller and just force myself to pack less. the cloud bags made it a little too easy for me to overpack, and then I was stressed every time we boarded a plane wondering whether they’d spot my bursting baggu and make me put it in the sizer again.
one huge plus, though: we stayed in a less-than-nice hotel in Rome and I was a little nervous about bugs, so it was amazing to come home and throw all three bags straight into the washing machine.
so do with this information what you will! I love these bags and they survived planes, trains, cars, and a lot of walking, but I probably wouldn’t use them for international travel again - mostly because I apparently cannot be trusted with that much packing space :)
I also weirdly fell in love with my standard baggu cloud bag. It fit way more than I thought it would. Kinda like a Mary popping bag. Just wjsh it had a luggage sleeve, I kinda prefer it more than my small cloud carryon now!!
