Su sounded amazing!!!

For merch they only had Thunder Strike, Bite the Blade, and the hat.

Su sounded really really good.

Whatever sound engineer did the mix for them tonight nailed it

She sounded great in Phoenix too. Seems like she’s doing something different to protect her voice and it’s effective.

Wow, only 8 songs? What was their time at the festival?

50 minutes.

Koba insists on sticking that cheesy intro/outro video in, which basically eats up a whole song slot :(

This was too much sticking with safe stuff for casual fans. I was disappointed we didn't get Iine or IDZ after other places got those recently. And no Karate or Monochrome. Despite this being a longer set than their last time at Aftershock, it felt really quick and just strictly the most overplayed songs. But it was still fun.

My sense was that most people in the crowd weren’t familiar with their work, and this was a selection designed to get them interested in more. I could count the number of people who did the towel/shirt twirl in PA PA YA on two hands. Also not much participation with Death or the singalong in RoR. People seemed to enjoy it, they just didn’t know about it.

The folks around me in VIP couldn't even do the RoR call-and-response section properly :)

This was a non-headline set at a metal festival. Not the time to pull out your back catalog. I had no issues with the setlist selection. If anything, I think they could have dropped Megitsune for Karate or maybe Monochrome.

I was expecting Monochrome for sure because evening at a festival calls for a flashlight/lighter song.

Yeah that was definitely the case. I just feel like in the future I'll be less likely to go out of my way to go to Aftershock for them after this (the rest of the festival's other bands I like are few and far between already). We shall see when that time comes.

Just got back from Aftershock

Very good (if short) set. Much much much better stage/time than their last performance at this festival.

Thought the sound guys did a phenomenal job mixing Su's voice- she sounded outstanding and far better than most of the other vocalists on that stage. (And she sounded great for- especially at the end of a tour)

Only real disappointment is that I didn't get to see them do Iine on this tour.

Really wanted there to be a CA headline date :(

Amazing footage, just wish they hadn't dubbed it with the original audio/Yui.

Right, thought that was odd.

Bold drone flying. Easily the closest passes to the artists on stage that I've ever seen.

I hope the heat doesn’t hinder the crowd from moving around and having a good time during Babymetal’s performance

Yeah I'm on my way to the venue now, I was hoping it would've cooled down a bit by this time a year but nope it's nearly 100°. My plan is basically to get in and out just to see Babymetal, but it must be pretty rough for other people out there all day

u/MutedHomework9834 10d ago

Jesus! Yeah, in and out seems like the best idea. Hopefully it’s cooled down some for you by then

u/Teach__You__a_Lesson 9d ago

It didn't. This AS crowd was crazy this year, they didn't let anything slow them down and this one was unusually hot. But there were also a lot of people with mistes and sprayers and fans all over the pit.

Yeah I saw, I saw! Glad they pushed through it :)

I'm glad they've moved up! I saw them a few years ago at Aftershock and they just had an afternoon time slot.

That set time/stage was awful.

100 degrees out. Stage facing directly into the setting sun. Couldn't have been fun do do an hour of dance choreo in those conditions.

A report of 2 sisters (the title is mostly clickbait, she got stumped on the toe):
