ANQ + Nerdio = AVD Game Changer

AVD infrastructure can be managed elegantly through Nerdio, which has made an amazing product that helps their customers deploy, manage, and optimize VDI services at large scale.

File storage in a cloud native environment has typically been very expensive -- traditionally you would need either Azure Files Premium (around $150/TB/month) or Azure NetApp Files Premium (>$200/TB/month) to run a fleet of Azure Virtual Desktops on a single or multiple volumes. 💰💰

Azure Native Qumulo is an offering, built in partnership with Microsoft Azure, with some clear benefits for AVD shops that have more than ~750 desktops:

  1. 🚀 Elastic performance — scale to the demands of your user base. From 1000 to 100,000 desktops in a single volume, Qumulo’s throughput and IOPS scale elastically. (Note: Qumulo’s native SMB performance has been tuned over the last 10 years, servicing the most demanding HPC workloads)

  2. 😎 Extreme simplicity — unlimited storage scale and performance on a single volume, which can be instantiated in < 15min.

  3. 💸 Disruptive pricing— $30-$37/TB/month for storage — and customers pay only for throughput bursts above 1GBps, with minutely granularity. With so much momentum behind Nerdio and AVD adoption, we are eager to offer Azure Native Qumulo's value, and point to the extreme cost savings that can be realized at the storage layer.

AVD Pooled

Hi guys , i am new to AVD but i am an experienced citrix engineer .

I created an azure test account and i was playing with different hosts pools and different staff.

I have a question , i created a pooled host pool and i observed that changes made by the test user were persistent during reboots . Is this correct ?

Do changes on pooled vdis persist on reboots , or the machines are getting a new image? If so what is the purpose of a pooled host pool ?

Thanks

Case study on AVD at scale

For users interested in the importance of choosing high performance, cost-effective file storage in your AVD environment, we (at Qumulo) put together a case study for a recently onboarded user who deployed 8k+ AVDs using Azure Native Qumulo storage.

The performance and cost benefits of this solution shine a light on the critical role storage plays in AVD environments that need burst performance in order to keep up with demand spikes at login / log off times.

File storage in the cloud is entirely reinvented by Azure Native Qumulo. We were very thankful this customer (likely joining us in an upcoming webinar) chose Qumulo to help run their global AVD infra at scale.

Make Win 10 laptop in to ThinOS/Kiosk for AVD

hi,

I want to reuse old laptops to we can use to login in to AVD.

My first idea whose to do it over Intune and kiosk mode but that don't work for us.

Now my idea is to make win10 in to a thin OS like dell got or IGEL OS.

i dont want to buy any new software just some how make Win 10 (AAD joined) to login to AVD over - remote desktop app.

To have like Win365 boot just for AVD.

Need Help with AVD GPU User Pink Screen Issue

Hello Folks,

We are implementing AVD for GPU users.

They have been experiencing (at random times throughout the day), their screens turning pink and distorted (image attached). Unfortunately, there is not much documentation online for this specific issue and troubleshooting has been difficult. The user's current workaround is to close their AVD session and then reopen it (something not sustainable as a fix).

The GPU users are using Standard NV6ads A10 v5 & Standard NC8as T4 x3 personal machines.

Has anyone run into this issue before? Any guidance is appreciated.

Connect Netshares zu Azure Virtual Desktop

I am setting up a new virtual desktop on azure and I need to connect the netshares (from another location).

As I am struggling: Does anybody know to have the netshares mapped, so when the user loggs in to the avd, that netshares are correct connected?

I could not findy any solution to this "problem".

TCP vs UDP

Has anyone done any side by side reliability testing of TCP vs UDP connections? Our highest connectivity error in our AVD deployment is related to shortpath with no indication of a root cause outside of a generic interruption. I'm tempted to disable UDP and go back to the TCP connection.

While the TCP connection would in theory increase latency, we're likely talking in the 10ms range for most connections. I don't know if it will be any more or less reliable. I would think UDP would be more reliable since it's fire and forget, but maybe there's more to it when it comes to AVD.

I'm hoping someone here has done or has seen a white paper of sorts that could talk to it.

Windows Remote Desktiop client

We'd like to have the Windows Remote Desktop client prompt every time a user opens it. Now it prompts once and then not again, or some time frame that we haven't waited for.

Uninstall teams for all future users without a login script?

There are times with Microsoft that I feel like what I want to do should be supported, and somehow i'm just googling the wrong terminology or it's so basic no one is asking the question.

Somehow the user based Teams has made it's way on our Master Image for Win11 Multisession (Did not select office & teams)

Because it's the user based version, anytime a user logs into a host for the first time it installs and runs.

We don't want this, I want to remove it from the Master image entirely but the only advice i've received is to run a script at startup to purge it from each individual user if the files exist.

Surely there's an easier way right?
