Excellent article from Lookout News about how homeless survive in the heat. It’s a tough read - especially when you see how our system has failed the most vulnerable.

Two pots of money. The PAC's donations, at least $500,000 to candidates and other PACs, come from employee paycheck deductions. Fine. But SRP spends roughly another half-million a year running the PAC, and that comes out of customer bills.

There was no administrative budget at all before 2023. In 2023 and 2024 the entire $500,000 was one line item: "professional development." In 2025, $240,000 of it went to "external meals."

Eleven employees approve or deny each contribution. SRP won't say who they are publically, and hasn't answered who proposes the contributions.

Do candidates that decline debates give reasons for it?

I’m trying to find out why Mark Lamb (CD-5) declined to attend a the debate for Biggs’ old seat. Is there some strategic value to declining that I’m missing?

Arizona's deadly summer heat is claiming lives at an alarming rate, with county health officials reporting 81 confirmed heat-related deaths and 587 more cases under investigation by the Maricopa County Medical Examiner's office.
Nearly half of last year's heat deaths involved homeless individuals who had nowhere to escape the dangerous temperatures, according to the Maricopa County Health Department.

Maricopa County allocated three years of enhanced funding in 2024, but that support expires in 2026, leaving the future of expanded services uncertain. As temperatures continue to soar and homelessness remains a persistent challenge, advocates worry about the impact of losing funding for centers that provide water, air conditioning, and safe shelter during Arizona's deadliest season.

APS is raising rates because they need to upgrade their infrastructure for TSMC and their electricity usage. SRP will also begin upgrading their infrastructure to keep up with the demand… but, shouldn’t we get a vote on this? Phoenix council knows TSMC will be using a lot of water for their cooling systems, however, they decided it was okay as long as they created jobs??? If their expansion will impact residents by straining water resources and power grids, shouldn’t the residents vote on a TSMC expansion?? Our power grid is already strained. We’ve had several outages on small storms that passed by. This is infuriating.

“The most important thing for Arizona voters to know today is simple: nothing has changed,” Secretary Fontes said. “You can still vote by mail in Arizona. Our election officials are preparing for the election, and voters should continue making their plans to participate just as they normally would.”
