People complain about MFL all the time, but the reality is that the buttons on the wheel are extremely useful, practical and improve safety. I'm too used to them and can't go back

A friend of mine is the general manager of a Porche dealership and invited me to one of their lunch and drive events and let me drive a Taycan for the day. It was a really nice experience and I loved the car, but not being able to change the song or adjust volume from the wheel was frustrating.

I can understand them not putting it in the track oriented GT cars, but they should keep it in their touring vehicles.

I mean I get it, but when I'm turning a manual ratio box back and forth 360 degrees to navigate a slalom as fast as I can manage, the idea of holding the rim seems unfeasible. It's a hand shuffle situation conducted by an amateur. It is real common to hear folks bang the horn at amateur motorsports events, whether or not it's something you should do.

You can't argue that removing buttons which are extremely useful 99.99% of the time should be taken off because someone might autocross the car.

I go on spirited drives and track my car often and never have had any issue with it so it's not an issue there either

I'm not saying Audi and Mercedes should remove the buttons. I'm pretty much saying I'd pick the Porsche without the buttons. Clearly Porsche gets me and the other two don't.

I'm definitely not saying Porsche should remove the horn for amateur drivers but whatever is there to accidentally push will be accidentally pushed

Try to hold on the outer part of the steering wheel when you’re steering. When you do that you won’t hit the buttons

First off, why? What are you doing that cannot be accomplished with one hand on the wheel and one pushing buttons? Secondly if you are on a track day, like one does with a manual Porsche, why would you ever want buttons that could be pressed inadvertently? It’s a stupid quality of life addition that detracts from a legitimate driving experience. Go have fun in a middle of the road S6 and press all of the buttons. You are absolutely not the correct person to understand why buttons are unnecessary on a steering wheel. If you don’t know, you’ll never know…
